Derrick Rose Fine With Underdog Status vs Miami Heat

Most are picking the Heat to beat the Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals, to which Derrick Rose and his teammates say bring it on. Bulls.com has the quotes: “Predictably, Bulls players demurred, talking about themselves as a team. Rose said he thought his teammates were ‘damned good.’ ‘We’ve done it as a team all season,’ said [Carlos] Boozer. ‘We’re not a one man show, though our man is pretty good. We have an unsung hero in Luol Deng who’s played great D all series, all season, who makes big shots down the stretch of games. We rely on everybody. Not one or two guys (Miami reference?). It’s everybody, a great coach who puts us in the right position to be successful and we play together out there.’ That was the difference alluded to by Bulls players after Thursday’s Eastern Conference semifinals clincher. Yes, Miami has the stars. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are nonpareil. No one questions that. The Heat is renowned for its defense because of the closing speed which James and Wade can play at. And they will be favored, which suited Rose fine. ‘It’s going to be a great matchup. It’s going to be fun,’ Rose said. ‘We’re fine with being the underdog, if we are.’”

    Bulls and Thunder 2011 Finals

who’s labelling them as underdogs? bulls swept heat in regular season and had a better overall record. how can they be the underdog? is it because Miami is clicking at the right time in the playoffs? Its pretty damn evenly matched in my perspective

  • jake

either way its gonna be a great series…

Chicago writers (shout to the homie B Crawford) are terribly tempermental. Everything has been a perceived slight to their wondrous little band of rag tag merry men this season. The only people that are claiming the Bulls are underdogs are clowns looking to write a story without substance to get reaction and views. Chicago of the 90′s>>>>>>>>>Chicago of the 2010′s….and that’s not referencing the Bulls either.

I see it as fairly evenly matched. They’ve got the better bench and front court, we’ve got the better wings. Chris and Boozer are evenly matched. Both can be fragile emotionally. We’ll see how that matchup goes. Can’t wait to see Anthony and Noah battle under the boards. Everyone talks about Thibs as a defensive guru, but I think, for what he had to work with, Spo’s right there with their COY. It’ll be a battle; one I can’t wait to watch.

Miami is way better than when they played in the regular season. They are the clearly favorites, although I’m rooting for Bulls vs Dallas finals.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

E, that was Sam Smith who wrote that.
    Need I say more?

  • T-Money

you’ll see cross matchups in the post. anthony on booz, noah on cb. bosh will surprise people vs chicago.

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com airs

cmon, you guys mean to tell me that most of the (rational) world outside of chicago have the bulls winning this series?
i heard 12 out of 14 “experts” on ESPN picked miami, even the dude that covers chicago!
chicago is the underdog, and thats cool with me.

  • Miabigz

Go Heat go Bosh! Alot of teams will fall because the forgot about bosh. Ok keep thinking of wade and james and not bosh and watch your teams loose. This all star/ elite point guard. Just held his own againt a hall of famer; kevin garnett. Now watch out bulls. I would focus on wade and james and forget the boshes pitt. The clutch james jones and MVP joel anthony.

  • Miabigz

Sorry meant to say power forward and would NOT FOCUS ON WADE

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

Not a fan of either team, but i would like to see a Miami vs Dallas finals, but im riding with tha Bulls on this one. Bulls vs Dallas anyone???

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

Derrick Rose is more than just pretty good. If Boozer thinks DRose is just one of the reasons they’re in the conference finals, and not THE reason, he needs a heat check from Bynum.

  • Candice

Well I’m watching TV right now and no one is giving the Bulls a chance (ESPN), so I say for once Sam Smith is right at least on one front.

  • AD

why do yall wanna see miami vs dallas and not miami or chicago vrs OKC. i mean.. Jason kidd, Dirk and terry shootn thress is getting old and boring plus they cant win that way….. Westbrook and KD are way more exciting

  • stayweird38

  • Oh Nose

12 out of 14 NBA “experts” have picked the Heat over the Bulls…..that is why they are considered the “underdog”

  • Oh Nose

oops didn’t see airs post, my bad, also my bad for double posting!

  • Whoever

Keep Wade in control (as much as he can be) and Bulls will win. He is the key. LaBron has shown he can’t win it without Wade. I think it will go the 7 with Chicago pulling it out.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

All the ESPN experts picked Heat over Boston. Every single one. It could be worse Bulls fans.

  • add

rose has got to be good but more importantly noah has to have an outstanding series, if he does i can see the bulls winnin in 6 or 7

  • Oh Nose

I don’t doubt it, I was just clarifying why people are asking why D. Rose claimed that they were the “underdogs”

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

All the ESPN experts also pick San Antonio over Memphis and LA over Dallas too.
As for the “underdog” label, hell yeah I think the Bulls are being tagged as the underdog. No one except Bulls fans think they’ll win it.
Hell, even many Bulls fans think they’ll lose.
    I say Bulls in 7.
Me pointing out it was Sam Smith was basically saying, you can’t lump him with all the other Chicago writers. He’s usually on some other ish.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Drosefan

I believe Bulls will beat the heat in 6 or 7! I think the heat are a lil too happy about beating the celtics who are aging and are not the same team w/out perkins.I believe the bulls are going to play better in this series b/c everybody is doubting their play from the pervious series.Boozer will wake up finally and the bulls will kill the heat on the boards with alot of 2nd chance points.ALSO THE BENCH MOB!

  • ohgeefreeks310

noahs goin to whip sun joel anthony ass :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    I’m going Bulls in 7

  • mjNotkobe

The Bulls will lose in six

  • AD

who is on the bulls bench thats a threat?

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Korver’s a threat from three. Brewer’s a threat defensively. Asik’s a threat defensively and in terms of rebounding. Ditto Gibson, and he can go off offensively too. Watson can go off.
No one on the Bulls bench will come in and score 20 a la Jamal Crawford, but the Bulls bench is dangerous.
    Don’t sleep.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

The Bulls bench is way better than the Heat’s bench

  • Red Star

    Da Bulls!!!

    I hope Bulls n 7.

  • AD

i think the bulls bench can get shut down easily… they just played 2 teams that are horrible at defending

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com just bcuz

  • http://http//portlandfan1203.blogspot.com Karley

This is going to be a great series.. Its gonna be as big as the finals because i think whoever wins this series will take it all.. No team in the west is going to be as strong as Bulls OR Heat.. So Bulls or Heat 2011 NBA champs.. Im rooting for them Heat.. Theyre on fire. MVP gunna have to step up his game. Going to be so fun to watch.. Probably going to go to 6 or 7 games.. All you haters dont gotta comment back because all this is is an opion and theory:)
    Peace Gents..

Heat v.s OKC. With Lebron silencing the Haters. Go Heat.

  • http://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

    Too close to call.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The Bulls have home court advantage and a better regular season record–they definitely aren’t the underdogs, no matter who picks the Heat to win. Not once was Dallas considered the underdog against Portland in the first round, but a tonne of people thought the series was Portland’s to win.
That being said, I think the Heat will win this series. It’s gonna be a fun one to watch.

Heat’s Big 3 vs Bulls Team!

I say it’ll be Bulls in 6! oh yeah! \m/

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Yeah y’all are smoking something…it will be a good series though

  • Yesse

I’m probably going with the Heat to pick this one. Simply, because Rose can’t do what he usually does. He can’t just go through LeBron or Wade as he usually does. On the otherside, Bulls might make some noise in this series.

  • roc

I’m sorry guys but Rose is going to put up 30 points on anyone guarding him, whether its lebron, wade or by committee. You can’t stop great players from scoring especially a super aggressive point guard that has the rock 95 percent of the time. He averaged 29 points against the heat this year so do you really thinks thats going to drop when he has an even higher usage in the playoffs? I look forward to a highly competitive series with all the star players showing out……..
