Earl Monroe Thinks Chris Paul Would Thrive in New York

Earl “The Pearl” believes CP3 would love playing for the Knicks, should he hit the free agent market in 2012. From the NY Post: “Earl Monroe is the best Knicks point guard to ever have been linked to Winston-Salem, N.C. In 2012, Monroe said he thinks that might change with the arrival of Hornets superstar Chris Paul. Monroe, who is friendly with the Paul family and played at tiny Winston-Salem State, [said] yesterday he believes Paul has eyes on the Knicks if he becomes a free agent in 2012, and thinks he would love playing for the orange and blue. ‘I’m quite sure he would relish being in the Big Apple,’ said Monroe, who coached the New York City team vs. L.A. in yesterday’s inaugural People’s Games at Union Square. ‘He can handle this pressure. Obviously he’s one of the premier point guards in the league. To add that with what you already have, you got the real nucleus to having something special happen closer than in four years.’ Earl ‘The Pearl’ worked with Paul and Paul’s family in New Orleans doing promotional work for the documentary, ‘Black Magic’ — which explored the roots of the black-college basketball scene. Monroe was a frequent customer of Paul’s grandfather’s grocery store in Winston-Salem.”

No… Chris Paul would Fit great in Los Angeles. New York city Is going to suffocate him. The no defense playing Knicks will never win championships. Clyde Thinks NY is entitled to superstars.

  • Jer dawg

Errr, Earl. Not Walt “Clyde” Frazier. It’s like asking MagicJohnson about Dwight Howard. “oh. He would fit great here.”
Like it’s a freaking given that other small market teams are farm systems for big market teams. Wait, it’s already been like that. SMH. No NYC for Paul! Lakers! Los Angeles > NYC

  • Riggs

L.A. sucks. NYC is where everybody wants to go, even los angelians.

  • Fat Lever

You know, I really wish people would just shut the f up until it’s actually close to the free agency period for the player. Who knows what is going to happen with the CBA. I feel bad for the Hornet fans that have to go through this.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Fat lever, I agree 100%. Same goes for Orlando fans.

  • Kid Dynamite

    Here we go again….

  • shuref00t

And CP3 would thrive under Phil Jackson’s coaching with the Knicks. LOL’

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

Get CP3 in Orlando instead of Jameer and Arenas.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

And trade Turk for a young defensive sf.

  • rich

he currently thrives in new orleans, i think that means he could play anywhere well. i think he would be wiilling to take a paycut to win a ring i have heard him say he wants to win more than make money, maybe if his team misses the playoffs or they get a really embarrasing loss in the playoffs he will go somewhere else, NY idk about that, new orleans would prolly rather trade him than have him walk for nothing

Wouldn’t the Lakers rather have a dominant big than a great point guard? Maybe their view changes if they switch away from the triangle.

  • http://bulls.com airs

i don’t know if CP would be a great fit in NY, but i know that new york is one of those cities where if their team is good, its good for basketball in general. i’d love to see MSG really lit up and excited for games again, and im not even from there.

  • AD

CP3 is stayn Hes one of the loyalest players out there… NY AND LA are whack

  • http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/5/9/2161944/derrick-rose-kobe-bryant-lebron-james-bulls-nba-playoffs-2011 nbk

Chris Paul would thrive anywhere, he’s the smartest most skilled point guard on earth.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Nbk hitting the nail on the head. Airs, that comment was clueless.

  • http://bulls.com airs

whaaat, dang its like that allball.
i wasn’t makin any point about where cp3 will or should end up, i was just talking bout new york.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I know, but CP would be a great fit any where. He should probably not go to New York because he is as committed defensively as he is offensively, but he would put up AMAZING numbers in a run and gun system.

  • http://bulls.com airs

he would thrive in any system im sure, and he’d definitely thrive in a run and gun system no doubt.
but as committed as he is defensively, i can’t say the same for the rest of the knicks.
he’ll get his numbers and it’ll look great, but something always stops me from saying any d’antoni led team is a legit title contender.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

CP would be great in Chicago.
    Backing up Derrick Rose.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

I just made AllBall vomit in his mouth.

  • http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/5/9/2161944/derrick-rose-kobe-bryant-lebron-james-bulls-nba-playoffs-2011 nbk

what does him being committed defensively have to do with his teammates? and how is that even relevant, he would thrive in the system because Steve Nash thrived in the same system and Chris Paul plays a similar game. Its not like Chris Paul playing hard on defense will make his teammates so angry that they start missing shots, if anything it will just make them play that much harder on that end, and NYK would not only have a PG whose “thriving” but a whole team.

  • http://bulls.com airs

oh i just reread your comment and you agreed that he shouldn’t go to NY…
…so he wouldn’t necessarily be a good fit.
i dunno what we’re arguing about.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Rigo your starting to sound like a hater on every CP post. Chicago is the only place where swapping the PG for CP would not be an immediate up grade. The Bulls need Rose volume shooting and scoring.
    I agree airs.

  • http://bulls.com airs

i was looking at this in terms of winning a chip, maybe i was wrong in that.
im saying CP would DEFINITELY thrive, he’d kill, get the same MVP numbers as nash did in phoenix.
maybe they’d do even better than phoenix cuz they got melo, i dunno.
i just don’t think a run and gun offense with a lack of great defense will win a chip, thats all.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Airs I agree again lol. Being committed defensively matters because Paul wants to win. There fore whilst he would thrive personally in NY there would be limited team success with the coaching staff that is there now.

  • http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/5/9/2161944/derrick-rose-kobe-bryant-lebron-james-bulls-nba-playoffs-2011 nbk

oh airs I completely agree with you. I actually think D’Antoni can’t win a championship with his system and Melo. If he had CP3, Kevin Martin, Dorrell Wright, Amar’e, and Tyson Chandler then I could see them winning a title. lol but obviously that’s just a perfect lineup for that system. atleast IMO it is.

  • http://bulls.com airs

    haha, all good.
damn, tyson chandler would be great for them now that i think about it.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

AllBall, I’m simply reacting to what I believe is starting to be a seriously disturbing trend of you romanticizing Chris Paul on every Chris Paul related and non-related post.
    You can hate me now…

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

But I wouldn’t wanna see Paul in NY either. Pair him up with Dwight Howard, ANYWHERE, and it would be scary.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I did read you make that kind of reference on the CP3 wall paper post. Stay classy, Matic.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Like I said, it’s just too easy.
I made that crack in this post as a straight up joke, but you seemed to be seriously offended by it.
Calling me a hater. Cool. I’ll be dat, I guess.
Then again, you been calling me a hater ever since I said D Will was better so I shouldn’t be surprised.
    You’re still my dude though.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

In my defense, it is hard to tell a joke over the net, although I did not think you actually believed that.
LOL, I called you a hater then? My bad, You know how I get with CP/D Will.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

On the real, your fandom for Chris Paul can border on the annoying, but I have to respect it cause the enthusiasm is real.
But anytime I’m clowning CP or clowning you for being a CP fan just know it’s done playfully, usually.
    Lol

  • HAMMER

1st Lebron, then Melo and now Paul/Howard. Sh!t is annoying. And does SLAM really have 2 post on what “The Pearl” said? Of course he gonna say that Chris Pablo is a good fit n NY.
But then again, im a Knick hater

  • http://klatschendom.wordpress.com/ Speedy

This guy is one of the best true point guards in the NBA.
To say he is a good fit in NY is like saying ketchup fits with meat. We all know that.
Let him play till he is a free agent and then start the talk.
    Poor Hornets fans.

  • http://www.slamonline.com BlackVictory23

So do I. Getting CP3 is essential to winning a title.

  • 919chris

He’s going to charlotte. u heard it here 1st

  • manigault

chris paul wont get traded overhyped? what do you guys thinks will happen to the celtics ?

  • Rikson

He would kill melo for the lack of effort… No, just No!

  • ManicD

PREDICTION: If the ORLANDO MAGIC don’t sign CP3, DWIGHT HOWARD will most likely sign with another Team. (even though THAT will keep him out of the record books AND THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO REMAIN IMMORTAL….NOT RINGS. RINGS ARE GIVEN OUT EVERY YEAR…..RECORDS AREN’T SET TO OFTEN.) IF DWIGHT HOWARD SIGNS WITH ANOTHER TEAM….THE ORLANDO MAGIC WILL LEAVE ORLANDO WITHIN 3 SEASONS…..ORLANDO WILL BE DONE WITH THE NBA….ESPECIALLY IF HE GOES TO THE LA.LAKERS……ORLANDO FANS WON’T TOLERATE ANOTHER SH12THEEL ONEAL LIKE INSULT.
