Kobe Bryant: ‘I’m Concerned. [Dallas] Can Beat Us’

After the Mavs came into Staples Center last night and stole Game 1, Kobe Bryant reiterated how much Dallas concerns him as a team.

From the LA Times:

“Of great importance, the Lakers’ reserves were heavily outscored by the Mavericks’ backups, 40-25. Jason Terry had 15 points, Peja Stojakovic had 10 and Jose Barea had eight. Not the way the Lakers wanted to start another playoff series. But here they are, down a game, just like two weeks ago against New Orleans. They’re not pleased about it, either. ‘We went in the locker room and felt like we gave a game away,’ Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said. Said [Kobe] Bryant: ‘I’m concerned. This team can beat us. It’s clear. We’ve just got to come in ready to play Game 2.’ The Lakers didn’t pound the ball down low very often, Andrew Bynum scoring eight points on three-for-eight shooting and Pau Gasol scoring 15 on five-for-10 shooting. Bryant repeatedly said it wasn’t his fault, pointing instead to the Lakers’ reserves. ‘It had nothing to do with me,’ he said. ‘I’m going to do what I do. I think the second unit, we’ve got to make a conscious effort to get the ball in to Pau and get the ball in to Andrew.’”

If Gasoft steps up, u should be good, if he doesn’t ur in trouble.

Oh stop with the reverse psychology already, Snakey. Way to point the fingers at your teammates too btw. Harmonious, that Laker locker room.

  • Fat Lever

Way to be a leader there Bean. Maybe he should take his own advice.

Maybe this game will finally squash the foolish notion that depth does not matter in the playoffs.

Surprised he said straight up “it’s not my fault” when he screwed up the closing plays twice.

Give Bynum more touches. SMH lol

do not worry, it is just the first game, 6 after. win the next. that is what the kobe should think at the moment, do not think other. let other mates go together to be a really team and win the series

Thanks Gasol. I really appreciate you giving Dallas that game. I got money on the Mavs.

  • 1982

Kobe kept them both in and out of the game. Look at your stats Kobe, and stop pointing fingers: 36 pts, 5 rebounds, no assists, three turnovers. You have all-star teammate(s), might want to start using them.

  • Brandon

@1982 that stat line is deceiving. Gasol was looking to tentative. Kobe put in work. He had a costly turnover down the stretch but that Loss is solely on Gasol.

What a sucker this cat here

Kobes the leader he lost the game, his defense was weak, he didn’t set up In The triangle like he was supposed to ignoring the offense like phil always points out, when ever the ball went inside to the low post he stood at the 3 point line with his hands down he didn’t give his bigs good kick out angles or cut off of bynum or gasol like he should of, then in the 3rd qtr when mavs rallied back kobe nor derek fisher didn’t control the pace, re-group and force feed the bigs like they started off the game. that’s lack of leadership, kobes not getting his teamates on the same page for whatever reason and its costing the squad

  • JTaylor21

Stat line is deceiving my a**. Anyone who watched the game so that dude was in Kome mode all game long and why should Bynum/Gasol be aggressive when they know they aren’t getting the ball.

im hopin we get new faces in the finals, Thunder,Bulls, whoever

  • Thawindy

Da Bulls will be lucky if they get to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Atlanta v Memphis for the chip would be hilarious.

    Atlanta vs Memphis LOLLLLL

Anyone can make any assessment they want by looking at the stat sheet. To someone like JT, Kobe was chucking it and not passing the ball all night and was looking to get his. What’s new? In my opinion, they did not pound the ball into the post alot. Early in the game, Gasol had it going but he was straight garbage at the end. Two post ups towards the end = gets stripped then gets blocked on a terrible fadeway by TC. Then the foul on Dirk and the poor handoff with Kobe. Kobe did have a costly turnover but he was the only one making shots and still had a chance to win it at the end. If I had to apportion blame, it would be to the reserves who gave up a 16 point lead and Phil let them play through it through to the middle of the 4th.

  • OvaChiken

AllDay you were close , it’s going to be Miami vs Memphis. Miami in 4 games. Who would have thought Bron’s first title would be his easiest hugh haters ? :-)

we all know the illuminatti wants the lakers to play the heat in the finals…… shoutout to Eddie lmao

Imagine if the Mavs do take this series? Cuban will get the last laugh in what could be Phil Jackson’s last game coaching. Will Phil go out like that? I think not.

  • alpahbetaherculis

Get the ball to the bigs? How when Showbe Cryant has Zero assists! I’ve been telling everyone this guy here is a straight ballhog with no respect for a TEAM concept. Effing rapist.

The Lakers have a time honored tradition of being mentally soft. Shaq used to brag when they brought thier “A game” like he deserved an award for playing hard… last year around this time, they were talking about just flipping the switch, or pressing the “magic button”. This year if theyre planning on pressing that button it better be connected to a time machine. This is Nothing but convienient leadership, Kobe trying to emmulate Phil by calling guys out. The Problom is, he’s dead wrong. He’s the engine on that train, as Kobe goes, so go the Lakers. NONE of the other guys are championship caliber leaders, none of these guys can create plays for anyone on the floor, and take over The Game As well. With The exception of An elderly Fish and Artest this Team is missing savy scrappy Vets like Fox,Horry,Shaw, Harper, Rice..ect. If Kobe wants another 3peat he’s gonna have to roll up his sleeves and get dirty.

co-sign MichaelG and Gasol has to play like he did in last year’s playoffs

  • syedh88

the lakers lost this game in the 2nd half. It wasn’t the kobe miss that lost the game. dallas, like a great team that they are, capitalized on the poor play of LA. but when the lakers play at their best, pounding the paint and closing with KB24, and the role players clicking on all cylinders, they cant be beat by the mavs.

  • http://www.walshsportsblog.com Darren

Pretty big overreaction to one loss, L.A had the game in hand but gave it away. The Mavs can’t rely on that happening another three times. Now im not a lakers fan but i still think they’re the favs.

  • Yesse

Pau Gasol had a little Kwame Brown flashback moment in LA and i’m very disappointed at the way he played.

  • http://slamonline.com Sergio

They were asking him about passing the ball down low. Phucking media! Always trying to start something. Disgusting!

  • smoovemann

as a celts fan,I have to say they will be fine, unless of course the mavericks playoff curse is lifted

  • Josh

Where the hell is Pau? Where is our all-star big man? Jesus, show up for a game man.
Kobe is a scorer, he isn’t supposed to get assists. He scores buckets, so those saying he should use his teammates, that just isn’t his game when he is looking to be aggressive. Too bad Gasol wasn’t the same sometimes.

  • 2K Insider

Wait. I want to know if his ankle is ok. did they ask him?

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

I love how no one gives the Mavs credit for pulling off that win. Jet was on fire; Kidd was the best look Dallas could have on Kobe; The Mavs bench were completely outplaying the LA 2nd unit; and Dirk was Dirk.

  • http://wwww.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

the supposed second coming was owned by ol ass kidd. go mavs. dirk.

  • Rasta

Look for glory hound b!tch a$$ kobe to take all the contested shots early, make them and stick his fugly a$$ underbite out only to have it recinded after they lose by double digits!!! That always cracks me up! I hate how he copies players from the past by doing what they originated on the court, i.e. biting the collar of his jersey, hiding his face in the jersey, tryin to sound like MJ, nod his head emphatically, etc. kobe’s such a fake a$$ lil biyatch, and it’s about time that rapist snitch see himself as he truly is. C’mon Mavs, sweep that dirt (and not under the carpet!).
