Kobe: ‘I Still Think We Are Going to Win’

A comeback from a 0-3 deficit hasn’t happened… ever, but Kobe can still hope, right? “That’s not stopping Bryant from being optimistic after the Lakers suffered a 98-92 defeat to the Mavericks on Friday night at American Airlines Arena in Game 3 of this Western Conference semifinals. ‘I might be sick in the head or crazy or thrown off or something like that, but I still think we are going to win this series,’ Bryant said. ‘I might be nuts. Win on Sunday. Go back home and see if they can win in L.A.’ When asked where that confidence comes from, the five-time NBA champion said: ‘I don’t know. I’m just nuts.’”

    Kobe can still hope indeed.

What is he supposed to say?

  • james

    I believe it.

  • Melvin

shut the f*ck up kobe. He thinks he’s such a bad@$$

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

He’s supposed to stop saying things and actually win some games. This Laker team talks too much, delivers too little in big games. Why say “we’re going to win” and add to the pressure they are already facing. Seems daft to me.

  • MUBWAR

stop smoking haze nikka and face reality like Lamar and Kloe lol

  • Janice

I have the same line of thinking. I still believe the Loch Ness Monster is out there, waiting.

  • Atsushi

Kobe, the only way you’re right is, when Stern talks to the ref’s to give you MASSIVE advantage.
Even then it’s kind of difficult.

  • http://nba.com gp23

    Lakers will win in 7.

  • T-Money

bryan: that one game at a time bs.

Ma ass Kobe won’t get anywhere close but retiring! Kobe its over! Your done why believe if it aint true!? Laker fans you can officially stfu! (:

  • Lakers Suck

They talk to much and can’t play ball…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

What’s he supposed to say? “well, we lost 3 games so it’s pretty much over now…oh well, it’s a been a fun year, good luck Mavs!” There isn’t anything wrong with this statement in my mind, and I never have and never will like Kobe. He’s the team captain, he’s supposed to have that attitude.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Why shouldn’t he say that? Although, with each press conference it looks more like stupidity than confidence.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Kobe is like Katsumoto in the Final Battle of The Last Samurai… Perfect. *goose bumps*

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

Of course most people here will give him crap for saying this but what else is he supposed to say. Tell Phil to start the bench and the rooks while the starters shut it down till next year?

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

    1:44p was not me.

  • Eddie

It is as the Illuminati predicted. Celtics Grizz. Remember who warned you fools. EDDIE.

  • flipnoyce

KOBE rant all season long has been false hope to his fan boys! OH, here’s one ” You all can’t beat me when JUNE comes around”. You can’t even get there fool!!! You bumping you’re head on that invincible chair, what about that supposedly broken ankle that you spun on? It’s all worse than Pierce and his wheelchair act. But, atleast Pdouble knows how to do it HOLLYWOOD style!!! Dallas fans should bring BROOMS to the game and scream LETS START SWEEPING every time KOBE touch the ball!!!

  • jose

Well Dallas does have a history of this with the finals in 06′ but can they screw up bad enough to let a 3-0 lead go away. . .

  • 2K Insider

Kobe is just losing games to distract the media away from his ankle. You notice that no one has talked about it this week.

  • M_Chio

I still believe that they won’t.

  • http://nba.com EJ

Lakers are playing with the same attitude as Lebron last post-season. Especially Pau.

  • http://www.angryarab.com Tariq

Usually, when a team is up 3-0, it means that they have completely dominated the other team. That’s why nobody has come back from a 0-3. I mean, look at the Knicks and Celtics in Round 1; they could have played 100 games and the Knicks still wouldn’t have won 4. Now this series… I don’t think that the 3-0 reflects the true nature of these games. The Lakers had a 16-pt lead in Game 1 and something like a 7-pt lead last night with 5 minutes to go. They’ve dominated the paint for the most part. It’s just a combination of Pau playing like Jim McIlvaine, POOR outside shooting, mental lethargy and Dirk playing the best ball of his life. Although it seems far-fetched, I don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility for the Lakers to get back into this series.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. He SHOULD be thinking this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Well, I still have faith in them. This attitude from Kobe helps. But it’s completely predictable(he’s Kobe Bryant, one of the most defiant, competitive basketball players of all-time). I wanna hear Pau actually say something like this, then back it up.

  • JTaylor21

    MJ wouldn’t have………

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    Ahh…bless his little heart.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    And here come the trolls

  • hoodsnake

If they were able to swop out Pau for Marc I would also have believed.- Is that trolling?

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

No, not at all. Trolling would be hating on everything a great athlete says or does.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    And I mean EVERYTHING

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

Well I’ll be the first to admit that I hate ALL THINGS associated with Kobe Bryant. Still, he didn’t say anything he unexpected. It’s not unrealistic to say that they can come back, but it would be much more satisfying for him and Phil to go through the humiliation of being swept. I’d love to see the look on that smug b*stard’s face if his career ends like that. Never liked Phil Jackson.

  • Willy

    meh

  • http://facebook.com D00m

    Who’s watching Khole’ and Lamar?!

  • mj23

i dont like kobe but what should he said we gona lose?! lol

  • BigJ

do you guys just play basketball but have no passion for it? im in no position to speak about this cause i aint pro or anything but if you know about the passion of basketball, youll know what kobes talking about. its not about bragging or putting a tough image on, its called LOVE OF THE GAME. and no current nba player has more love for it right now than kobe.

  • flipnoyce

cosign zoom@ comment 5:27. I feel the same way about this mofo. If Kobe is really that good how come the Lakers are down 3-0, riddle me that ? Why can’t he score 50 point average or maybe drop 81 against this Dallas squad to even make a statement. When the Fakers win he gets all the credit but when they lose someone gets the blame. I really hope they get swept.

  • celts4ever

    not looking good kobe.

  • Yesse

I’m a Lakers fan and even i don’t believe the possibility. If they do it, they make history but i do not expect that to happen.

  • Harlem_World

This series is done. Kobe’s wife caused Pau’s fiancee to break up with him. Pau and Kobe had an argument in the locker room over it. Pau is clearly not motivated, so we can guess he wants out and no parts of Kobe. Kobe snitching strikes again? Either way, it just cost them a ring…Pau is OUT this summer. It’s on various sites on the internets…Look it up…

  • Yonkers

You Kobe haters just don’t understand basketball. The 3-0 lead is before anything a Coach-Lead. And this is happening only because of Phil’s fear of Chi and Mia… I’ve been a Lakers fan for 15 years…and also had the LUCK of watching MJ’s last 3 years as a youngster. Now with that said i hold a pretty confident point of view when it comes to PHIL and i just can’t help but marvel at the almost diabolic gamble that PJ is putting on the table..ON HIS LAST EVER CAMPAIGN. If everything goes according to my prediction the lakers will beat the mavs in 7…only to build the DRAMA..and from then on…it’s only about the Bulls or the Heat. If this turnaround becomes obvious..hopefully starting tonight i will post a complete breakdown of my understanding. If i’m wrong then i will still be glad to have witnessed THIS LAKER ERA.

  • flash

i believe the pressure is on dallas to close it out. but can they do it? they’ve got a history for choking. it’s do or die for the lakers anyway so don’t expect them to give it up easy. game 4 for dallas is critical, finish the job now or regret it later. if you give the lakers hope they might just do the impossible. with kobe and phil u never know what’s gonna happen.

it takes legendary feats to build a legendary figure. For basketball’s sake and for all our sake, let’s hope Kobe’s not gassing us. Please no sweep…

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Sweep or no sweep, the Lakers are done. Time to start planning for the off-season: what kind of bait you’re going to use for fishing, who’s bringing the beer/dro, and what kind of boat to use, write a book, perhaps do a reality show, reinvent yourself, etc. etc.

  • flipnoyce

Some people still believe in the tooth fairy, santa clause and big foot. In the same sense some also believe that Lakers are gonna win 4 in a row, when they already played the first two home games and got beat. Delusional pretty much sum it all up!!!! Dallas fans should bring brooms to the Staples and Start Sweeping!!!

  • penny

    hi haters!

See ya in in Game 5, Kob’s.
