Portland Trail Blazers Fire GM Rich Cho

Now here’s a move we didn’t see coming. The Portland Trail Blazers have dismissed GM Rich Cho after one season at the helm. The team’s Director of College Scouting Chad Buchanan has been named acting GM until a more permanent replacement is announced.

that was quick. good to see the blazers taking steps in the right direction.

  • MikC.

I guess it’s his fault that Oden got hurt.

    huuuuwwhhhhhhaaat? chilll

  • RunNGun

Cho didn’t get to draft period…

  • jose

At least he got Crash out of Charrolette. . .

  • jose

    Charolette* i should say

Good, I didn’t like him as the G.M. of my home team.. Contact me Blazers staff.

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

apparently, he was not the Cho-sen one. At least he’s Rich.

  • Jer dawg

Good to hear a top reporter slamming the organization for it’s unorganized ways of running a business. Kevin Pritchard did great job before. Rich Cho barely got his feet wet.

  • HAMMER

Co-sign BossTerry. I just wished they had kept Pritchard. Now were back 2 square 1. This move just adds 2 the uncertainty of the future. Not a comfortable feeling as a Blazer fan

  • HAMMER

And I take exception on Wojnarowski’s tweet. I wouldn’t go as far as 2 say Blazers r a mess. Not when the Pistons and Kings r n much worse shape than us.

    Gerard with the win…

@Hammer, we always seem to agree on Blazer related stories, we should interview for the job.. All jokes aside, what part of Portland are you in? I live in Vancouver, but work in Portland (near the Expo center)

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

Was “Scapegoat” under his name on his business cards?

  • Heals

@Hammer, you’re totally correct about Pritchard, but I think that is what Wojo is getting at. If you fire a GM like Pritchard (highly regarded around the L) you better have a replacement that is expected to be good for a long time. To think that the Blazers are as competitive as they are having come out on the short end of Oden/Durant and BRoy’s knees is a tribute to the rest of talent they have. Just kinda shows a lack of direction in some regards…

What a load of BS, he got them Gerald Wallace. Any GM needs more than a yr to prove himself should be gone not him.

  • HAMMER

@BossTerry. Haha! I know, no doubt. Actually I just moved 2 the Central Oregon area couple months ago, but I used 2 live n Gresham. I luv the Portland area, so I know im gonna miss it

    @RUNnGUN exactly

  • theDankerNuggets

this is the guy who got them Gerrald Wallace for next to nothing!?

  • al29

Too soon. By this standard, Nate McMillan should be fired too.

Jeez, this guy must have pulled a Delonte West or something because I thought he did a pretty good job.

  • Ken

“at the helm” is a great rap song. And yeah…1 year seems short for a GM who didn’t really mess up.

  • sanman

Portland didn’t make it to the second round, so someone’s gotta be fired.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Sanman: Fire whoever is the head athletic trainer. Injuries to Roy and Oden is what kept them out of the second round.

  • Lazarus

didnt like him so rather happy :)

  • Harlem_World

Are injuries his fault? His major move this year was adding Wallace (an All-Star) for next to nothing. Wallace will be a big part of the Blazers the next couple years. Unless ‘the logo’ has his eyes on a move to Oregon, I don’t understand this at all. Maybe there’s some stuff going on behind the scenes, because this can’t be because of performance.

Now just relause Aldridge, BRoy, Wes,…
    Why did they fire him?

  • Myung

I’m not a Blazers fan, but it was nice to see an Asian American in a position like this in professional basketball. Very surprising that he was let go after ONE year when two really bad GM’s kept their jobs forever here in Atlanta (Pete Babcock and Billy Knight). There’s got to be more to this story, right? How can they just cut ties after one year?

  • lockon

he got them a great addition in g. wallace and this is what he got. what a bad move by portland.

  • dma

somehow Paul Allen finds more ways to make me embarrassed to be a Blazer fan. But again, the firing is warranted. What kind of grown man wears braces?

  • dma

gresham and vancouver *shudder* at least i’m in the good part of beaverton.

    @Max – Aldridge and Roy weren’t Cho’s moves, i don’t think. And Matthews wasn’t either??

  • http://slamonline.com Waylonakolipse

Cho was a decent GM. He got the players but they got hurt.

  • pioms

Owners need to stay out of player personnel decisions. 99% of them are businessmen and know very little about the game and it’s players.

Paul Allen needs to chill out. It’s a shame, because both Pritchard and Cho were good GMs.
