Report: Jerry West to Join Golden State Warriors’ Front-Office

According to the Mercury News, Jerry West will become an advisor of sorts for the Warriors: “Jerry West, one of the most respected executives in NBA history, has agreed to join the Warriors front office in a non-decision-making, advisory role, multiple NBA sources confirmed tonight. An announcement is expected within a few days. West’s exact title has not yet been formalized, but he is expected to be reporting to co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber and possibly act as a sounding board in many areas. The addition of an icon like West is another aggressive and surprising move by Lacob, who brought in agent Bob Myers last month as his GM-apparent. West and Myers have a long relationship via West’s close friend Arn Tellem, Myers’ mentor in the agenting industry.”

I wonder how messed up the Lakers’ future seems to West to get him to go work for the Warriors.

  • Jer dawg

Warriors have always had a habit of recruiting from southern California teams to work for them, seemingly. But, this time I believe the Warriors owner does entertainment business in LA and has been Laker fan forever. Naturally, he knew Mr. West & vice versa. Let’s hope Warriors have some more success. They are Clippers north without all the controversy. At least now Warriors are beginning with new ownership

West built the Lakers, he turned Memphis to a playoff team so he can make the Warriors do what Grizzlies did this year. Golden State is gonna be a tough out in the West.

@MikeC – well it wasn’t like he was working for the Lakers prior to this. On the flip side, when he was working for the Grizzlies he gave the Lakers Pau Gasol. I wonder if he’ll give the Lakers Stephen Curry or something now?

@Drew, I thought he’d left Memphis by the time the Pau trade came about

@LA Huey nope it was the logo. I see another lopsided trade in the near future

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

How long before he ‘advises’ the Warriors to trade Monta Ellis of Steph Curry for Kobe?

    Bryan Crawford is an idiot.

The Warriors are moving in the right direction. They have 3 star players. If they combine that with the right coach and a new bench they’ll be a playoff team soon. Monta, Curry, Lee…it’s gonna be soon.

    Three star players?
David Lee is not a star. Sorry.
And they need to learn about this thing called defense before they can even think of smelling the playoffs.

@LA Huey – Pau was gift wrapped to the Lakers by Jerry West. I’m telling you, Lakers are about to come up on Stephen Curry and David Lee, for probably Walton, Blake, and like 2 future picks or something along those lines. Make it happen Jerry!!
