Rudy Gay to be Available This Summer?

With the Grizzlies playing so well as their star player watching from the sidelines, the Akron Beacon Journal is speculating that Rudy Gay could be made offered up in a trade this summer: ”There is belief around the league that injured Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay could be had in the right deal. Gay, 25, has about $68 million left on his contract for the next four years. The Grizzlies have already given Zach Randolph a monster $71 million extension this spring and Marc Gasol’s expiring contract is up next. Do the Grizzlies have enough money for Randolph, Gasol, Mike Conley’s five-year, $45 million extension that begins next season and Gay, too? Perhaps, but they played awfully well during the postseason without him. Gay averaged 19.8 points and 6.2 rebounds in a season that ended in mid-February to a shoulder injury. He is one of the league’s most explosive scorers and just entering the prime of his career, so he won’t come cheap. … The Grizzles would likely want quality assets in return.”

First! haha never done that before and what about Iguodala for Gay? Works for both teams as far as I can see

  • r2j

I think trading Gay is possible. The GM is gonna be persice about which team will give Memphis the best offer and what the needs are. For the time being they will figure out Gay’s situation later. What they need to do is worry about today’s game 7 against OKC. They need to focus on that.

so many opportunitys for the nets…

Wing scoring has been their weakest link this series with OKC, and they want to trade their best wing scorer? FOH.

Loul Deng would be perfect for them. He can score as well as defend.
    He ain’t leaving the Chi

Heres an idea, why dont you just let him come back and see how good your team can be when you bring back a player whos better than all the other players on your team?!?!?

  • http://www.acb.com A l a n

let them play all together and then decide, c’mon…

  • flimo

I think they will only trade him if Gasol doesn’t come back, then they can get one of the big men from LA, Clippers included.

  • Yesse

I’m not too sure would i trade him. Hard to evaluate his value, because he has not played for a while.

  • NDP

Since the TWolves were interested when he was an FA, maybe they’d be willing to unload Jonny Flynn and a couple other of assets in a 3-team that could bring the Grizz some backcourt depth and another wing scorer? They’re better off seeing how the team meshes once he’s back next season though.

I agree they should return Rudy Gay and see how well they play together, but Marc Gasol is up for an extension. Marc Gasol is going to command a high salary, can Memphis afford it?

  • kudos

Rudy Gay isn’t all that. Letting them play together as a team is a mistake, as the grizzlies would be just mediocre. That and the offer’s for Gay will disappear. Trade him, he’s not worth his contract. Mike conley isn’t either.

Memphis is a small market team that can’t afford to be maxed out with their payroll. Trading Gay for picks is probably ideal. There’s a lot of business factors that play into this scenario, so trading Gay for another inflated contract(Igoudala, Deng, etc) doesn’t make sense from a payroll perspective.

Gotta say MEM/OKC has been a badass series. Kinda sad to see it end.

  • EtheKnickFan

with that said……Rudy for Landry Fields.

    Three team trade:
Grizzlies get: Tyreke Evans, Chris Duhon, Kings 2nd round pick
Magic get: Rudy Gay, Grizzlies 2nd round pick
Kings get: Jameer Nelson, Quentin Richardson, Orlando 1st round pick
All teams win, Memphis sheds Gay’s big contract and gets a solid starting 2, Orlando gets a creator on offense, and the Kings get a quality point guard and let Marcus Thornton become the primary scorer.

  • http://www.bulls.com. Rigo Gonzalez

^ Kings would straight up LOSE in that scenario

  • earl

celtics are going to trade for him

The last thing the Knicks need to do is give up their only decent perimeter defender for Rudy Gay aka Carmelo-light. They should keep him especially because their only other perimeter player that can create his own shot, OJ Mayo, is probably leaving. If they don’t wanna keep him, then Rudy for Iguadala sounds good for both teams. Philly could use a go to scorer which AI is not and Memphis cna definitely use a player with AI skillset.

Rudy Gay to Toronto for Bargnani + James Johnson. Grizz save some $ + get more depth @ SF in JJ. Bargnani leads the 2nd unit in scoring and backs up Marc + Zach. Zach, Marc and Bargs could be an effective big trio. Also, $ they saved is crucial as they extend Marc.Raps finally get a solid SF in Gay and DeMar + Rudy on the wings would be scary.

  • LeBron de Con

Gay is good but not $68M good

    boing wins

It looks like OJ mayo will leave, Slide Rudy to SG keep Battier at SF !

  • giogolo

The only sensible comments here are the ones saying to let rudy play again first before deciding. Even if you give gasol his cntract at the start of nezxt season you could always decide later on which of em comes off the book before the trade deadline. And with Grizz lacking a wong, with Allen and other def. guards in there, logical thing would be Rudy > Mayo.

Why is a journal from AKRON musing on whether the Grizzlies should move Gay???? Cleveland fans keep dreaming.

The Kings arent trading Tyreke Evans. Nice try. They could, however, offer up Casspi/Greene, Dalembert(sign and trade) and 2nd rounder..

  • SKITTLES05

IF Rudy is available i bet that Ainge and the Celtics will have a crack at trading for him as the Cs need youth and some scoring , and Gay will fill both of those, i hope they make it happen…

  • manny

come on spurs!!! im sure rudy would love to play for a quality organization like the spurs. our big 3 is over sadly, so we must rebuild.

  • giogolo

i like what skittle said about C’s trying to take Rudy..but where to put Green? as back up on both forward and sf? that’d be nice. C’s would just be one serviceable def big men away from contending still. That i’m sure.

  • giogolo

Some low rung teams in the L have a surplus of either big men or guards that many playoff teams now could really use.it’s imba! make the trade!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Gay to the Wolves to form a Gay Love frontcourt tandem. Make it happen Kahn.

  • AD
