Bismack Biyombo’s Spanish Team Asking for $1.4 Million for Buyout

In order to allow him to get out of his current deal in Spain and join the Charlotte Bobcats, Bismack Biyombo’s team is reportedly looking for a payout of just over a million bucks (which the Bobcats can’t legally pay.) The Charlotte Observer reports: “When new Bobcats general manager Rich Cho last week described Bismack Biyombo’s contract status as ‘a little bit complicated,’ he wasn’t kidding. Biyombo’s Spanish team apparently expects a buyout of approximately $1.4 million to allow the 18-year-old forward/center to join the Bobcats, who drafted him No.7 overall Thursday. NBA rules say the Bobcats can’t pay more than $500,000 toward any buyout, so in some ways the team’s hands are tied. The primary negotiation will need to be between Biyombo’s agent and the Madrid-based team that currently holds the player’s rights. Jorge Sanz, a spokesman for the Spanish team, told The Associated Press Tuesday that Biyombo has two seasons remaining on his contract and that while the team won’t fight Biyombo’s desire to leave, it does expect to be paid the full amount.”

I didn’t realize the cap for buyout was 1/2 a million. I was saying Jordan can pull that out of his couch covers, but rules are rules.

The Raptors has to wait 1 year to get Valanciunis to play for them because of a buyout.

How awesome would it be if Bismack picked up where Deke left off? Not on the court, in the Gold Club. “Who wants to s*x Biyombo?!?!”

So if MJ picks up the max he can, Bismack still owes a $1 mil? Unless the team is asking for a lump sum, that’s not too bad. Even with whatever the new rookie wage sale comes out too.

the article says the bobcats can’t legally pay more than 1/2 a mil. just because something is against NBA rules doesn’t make it illegal….

The amount (1,4 million) is in the contract. It looks like that spanish judge will sentence to pay it.
