Daniel Gibson Mad at LeBron James’ Comments About Cavs Teammates

Boobie Gibson, who has a history of beefing with LBJ, was not thrilled to hear what he considered a shot at the Cavs by James following the Bulls/Heat series. From the Plain Dealer (via The Dugout Sports Show): “After Miami defeated Chicago last week to advance to the NBA Finals, James talked about his decision to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. ‘I wanted to team up with some guys that would never die down in the moment,’ James said. ‘The opportunity presented itself with this great organization and we made it happen.’ Speaking on The Dugout Sports Show Podcast on Wednesday, Gibson said, ‘The way it’s said, you can’t help but take it personal. … I don’t think great players should feel the need to say this about a team or say that about a team. I think what it all boils down to if you’re great, you go play great, be great and everybody will realize you’re great. And you wouldn’t have to let it be known that everybody else was less great. Great players shouldn’t have to do that. So I feel like it’s kind of an admission. He might have needed some help. He might have needed to go somewhere and find someone who is a little greater so maybe he wouldn’t die down in those moments.’”

    Eric Snow/Sasha Pavlovic/Lebron James/Drew Gooden/Zydrunas Ilgausgas.

Yes, that starting lineup went to the NBA finals with (an injured) Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall, Anderson Varejao, Boobie Gibson, Damon Jones, Scot Pollard, Ira Newble and Shannon Brown coming off the bench.
Really? The NBA Finals? People can say whatever they want about Lebron as a person, but fact is, Lebron is a hell of a player and that team over-achieved in a big way and set some un-realistic expectations for Lebron for years after.

The Michael Jordan comparison isn’t even fair. There will never be another MJ. But even Michael Jordan had Scottie (7 time All-Star, All Defensive 1st team 8 times, 2nd team twice, All NBA 1st team 3 times, 2nd team twice, 3rd team twice), Horace Grant (all defensive 2nd team 4 times), and shooters like Paxson and BJ. Without MJ during the first retirement, that Bulls team continued to be a contender in the East. The Cavs after Lebron? Even after the first retirement Chicago had Ron Harper (who averaged 20ppg the previous season before joining Chicago), added Dennis Rodman (2-time Defensive POY, All NBA Defensive 1st team 7 times, 2nd team once, All NBA 3rd team twice).

With MJ, Scottie and Horace, or MJ, Scottie and Rodman, they’re as much of a “big three” as any of these other teams, so why does Lebron get all the flack for needing some help? Yeah sure the decision show was pretty self indulgent, but he did give a large portion of the proceeds to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Is it his fault that the Cavs could never really build the right team around him? Love him or hate him, fact is, he’s an amazing ball player and is playing like the best player in the world right now.

So, does Boobie want a statue or what?

  • giogolo

TO ALLENP and TBKR to some extent. this is what I meant by boobie having a point. my fault for not elaborating. but i’m not a moron. you allenp however is a pretentious mr. know-it-all S.O.A.B.

‘I wanted to team up with some guys that would never die down in the moment,’ James said. ‘The opportunity presented itself with this great organization and we made it happen.’

Gibson said, ‘The way it’s said, you can’t help but take it personal. … I don’t think great players should feel the need to say this about a team or say that about a team. I think what it all boils down to if you’re great, you go play great, be great and everybody will realize you’re great. And you wouldn’t have to let it be known that everybody else was less great. Great players shouldn’t have to do that.

Please try to read and understand carefully if somebody indirectly tries to label you as a person “who dies at the moment” and/ or a moron. im not sensitive by d way. just love to call u back with names too.

  • giogolo

there’s nothing wrong with trying to defend urself and ur integrity as a bball player even against someone like lebron whom a lot of year have looked down upon and despised due to the “Decision” and only recently decided to ride his c0c|< once again since it seems this finals was groomed to be his psuedo crowning to save the NBA.(ratings, popularity etc.yadaydadyadya)

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

    LOL, what’s an “S.O.A.B.”?

  • giogolo

and since guys like boobsie is still in L doing (despite ur shots here at him) the thing he love at the same time earning millions while we’re stuck here… .. … . ok. he must be cleverly doing something right whether we like it or not, that we know nothing about.

  • JTaylor21

So now you can’t put Bron in the same sentence as Kobe, word? The same Kobe that just got his a** handed to him by a less talented team in the Mavs, that kobe? The same kobe that had a hard time scoring on a 6-4 PG, that kobe? The same kobe that has a track record of getting destroyed in elimination games (28pt loss to 03 Spurs, 31pt loss to 06 Suns, 39pt loss to 08 Celtics and 36pt loss to ’11 Mavs), that kobe?
The guy is literally the anti-russell when it comes to elimination games and people still talk about him being on MJ/Russell/Kareem’s level.
    Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!

  • giogolo

Hi Rigo..im not used to calling names really. it looks good if you write it that way. aint it? Son of a..

The Cavs appeared to be the best team in the league for two straight regular seasons because the routine greatness of Lebron and their overall commitment to defense helped obscure their lack of a true second (or third, or fourth) star. Nobody seriously thought the Cavs were anything close to the most talented team in the league, not even in ’10 when Lebron was bestowed with half-seasons from an aged Jamison and a broken-down Shaq. In the playoffs, against star-laden teams that had more time to prepare, the Cavs in ’09 and ’10 were eventually (but not easily) dealt with. I hate this revisionist history nonsense; it’s frustrating in politics and it’s only slightly less frustrating here.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

@giogolo – I know, I’m just teasing you. “S.O.B.” is the way we normally put it.
@JTaylor – GET ‘EM!!! How dare they use Bron’s name in vain?!?!

  • giogolo

for the record..Gibsons game has been lyk nauseous since i cud remember. and lebron made the right decsion to exercise his free agency but he should not have sold out on the his team last year. dude just completely sold out. yeeeessh. It started from the moment they got elim by Magic back in 2009 he was never ever the same man in the play-offs playing with such adversity as he was during the time he elim. Pistons and went head to head with Pierce. We all knew wat he cud do and not do. His was already gone from Cavs last year.

  • giogolo

@ Rigo oh ok.im not from US..)

  • JTaylor21

Rigo, I’m just calling it how I see it. Why are you using @? Get off your twitter high-horse, son!

  • http://slamonline.com Spaceship Jay

None of us are Daniel Gibson, so none of us know what his true feelings/intentions are. However, I can imagine him being hurt by Lebrons comments. Daniel needs to move on, and let the magic white unicorn spread its sprinkling rainbow tears all over Gibson’s chest to heal his broken heart. That’s how true healing begins.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

#stopitslime RT @JTaylor @_Enigmatic1 I’m just calling it how I see it. Why are you using @? Get off your twitter high-horse, son!

I have no idea what you’re talking about, JTaylor :D

  • Allenp

If you think that Boogie was making sense when he said Lebron joined someone greater you are a moron.
If you think Lebron failed to carry those bums to crazy heights you are a moron.
Last year was a debacle and Bron has had some issues in the clutch before this year. But there is no question he carried that team and that his team sucked. Hell I said before the playoffs last year that Jamison was not the answer and they would regret passing on Amare. Anyway Boogie has hurt feelings. Period.

  • doyouwantmore

Lebron is painfully lacking in perspective. There is nothing sadder than a man who thinks he lives in a movie in which he is the star.

  • bull22

i SECOND DANIEL GIBSON, rose took the blame on himself when he did not have to. great players make the rest of their team better…. good for gibson for having courage to speak the truth..

  • JTaylor21

    #LOL, #OMG, #LMAO, #MCH, #CUAL, #FAN, #KKHNOU!

  • http://slamonline.com Tae

@DA, Mike had Scottie for maybe 5 of those rings. 98 dont count. Jordan almost played by himself that game

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

This is how you know it’s a slow news day.

  • Allenp

This was Rose’s first time truly failing and dealing with the fallout. And even this year he overachieved. We will see what happens if he feels like his greatness is not getting enough help and he is getting killed by fans and the press.

  • tomtom

Im no lebron fan, but when ur biggest problem is a guy called boobie. Ur good.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    Olajuwon had Clyde Drexler…

  • SikhWitIt

^^This. He was an ALL-STAR too which AllenP seems to forget.

  • giogolo

Allenp I never quoted Boogie’s last few phrases therefore you think too much and you are the moron. u assume to much. ur not the only person who knows and understands the NBA and people<-sometimes. I cant understand, for the life of me, why you think that I think Lebron didnt carry thos mofos. r u out of ur mind? My point was him being right when he reacted to Bron saying he was with teammates who died at the moment then later explained that great ones never stoop so down low as to say such. "And you wouldn’t have to let it be known that everybody else was less great." I didn't continue on "So I feel like it’s kind of an admission. At this point should be clear what was his real intention now bcoz Gibson ended it with "… go somewhere and find someone who is a little greater so maybe he wouldn’t die down in those moments.’” Again it was about THEM being accused of not having heart by lebron bcoz they felt IT WAS LEBRON WHO SOLD 'EM OUT. It wasn't just about pride and as Ive said, he has a " right to defend himself and his integrity as basketball player. READ WELL allenp. Dont assume too much.

  • Stillballin

Bobbie you suck..cavs sucks without the king..3 more win his finally gonna get a ring..

  • larrylegend

    but not in 1994

  • giogolo

Post is just a very small issue just judging by the comments here evryone has a correct idea about whats really going on. But the focal point here that underlies everything is LJ’s legacy as a player. He will never be like MJ and Kobe as far as commitment to winning and never say die attitude. All you had to do was watch how KObe and MJ conduct themselves everygame. They refuse to lose no matter what.( a lot less for Kobe though,i think) Whether thier teammate is Kwame or Purdue as thier center. They never ever would have gave u the win just like that.Their actions spoke louder than thier words.Jordan didnt went down on his knees after eliminating Bird getting old and with back injury and then the pistons. He rolled down the floor in tears only when he was already clutching the O’Brien trophy. As testament to his journey.WHich Lebron never ever will go through, the way Stern babysits every “superstar” today and thier team and the way he is which is a more of a aspiring corporate slugger/mogul than a GOAT who built his legacy strating from the bottom.this era sucks for bball. its untrue. No honor. No real glory. All BS business. His teaming up with Wade and Bosh will not taint his legacy. It’s what he wants to represent and be in the near future thats never gonna happen in the same breath as Jordan’s. shoes and all.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Jaytaylor relax this was Kobe’s first time in the playoffs, he’ll figure it out eventually i hope… Hopefully. We can only hope. Please Kobe learn how to win in the playoffs so i can shut that dummy face Jatylor up..

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Drexler was still in Portland in 94.
Rockets’ second leading scorer that year was Otis Thorpe, at just over 14 a game.
    Yeah…

  • JTaylor21

انت اكبر احمق شاهدته حتى الآن

  • giogolo

I also thought that they should have gotten amare..they would have recreated the 80′s lakeshow with Byron scott. If coach would have come out way b4 the decsion whch would not have happen anyway since Scott was actually waiting for his chance at the lakers and clearly somewhere I would guess that his hunches about LJ staying with Cavs bcoz of him were way off. LJ already made up his mind back in 2008. its all very clear now.

Boobie is a sideshow..No..he’s the peanut sold on the stands. The NBA needs another MJ and Kobe is on the downside.and Lebron, well he shouldnt have given up on his teammates and played thru it even for 1 more playoff game or series against the Celts. When it mattered. Thats why this post is relevant. haha

“If you think that Boogie was making sense when he said Lebron joined someone greater you are a moron.” <- also if u take this literally,it does make sense. Aside from Lebron, who among cavs players back then would be greater or as great as Wade,Bosh and maybe haslem…?

  • robb

Lebron’s just telling the truth, if Funbag Gibson can’t handle it too bad.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    Lakeshow you’re being sarcastic,right?

JTaylor – who’s the biggest idiot you’ve seen so far?

  • CARTEL

What the hell is this guy talking about????…Get the hell over it already…It’s a TEAM sport and if u were part of the team that couldn’t get over the hump, then Lebron has the right to say whatever the hell he wants about the team…He went where ppl were on the SAME level as him, Not to where players were GREATER…But Boobie does have a point great tho…Great players should just be Great and ppl will realize it…Well, Gibson ain’t even a DECENT player, and we’re all realizing that now!!!!…Shut up, stop crying, go play ball and earn your money…

  • Cizzo

Lebron is a Douche… He’s so high and mighty… Dude keeps his foot inhis mouth… Win and shut the hell up.. quit trying to justify everything.. PEOPLE STILL AREN’T GOING TO LIKE YOU BRON.. BUT THEY WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO RESPECT YOU…

  • CARTEL

    Meant “great point”…

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Gigolo this is what Boobie said:
“I think what it all boils down to if you’re great, you go play great, be great and everybody will realize you’re great.
That is the comment of a moron. LeBron didn’t go out of his way to down the Cavs, but he said he left because he needed help and his comments came in the context of saying that.
Great players request help. Kobe did it. Wade did it. Melo did it. Iverson did it. Hell, even Jordan did it behind the scenes.
Boobie had his feelings hurt because he feels like Bron is showering praise on his new teammates and pointing out the flaws of his old teammates. Guess what? That’s exactly what he is doing. And it’s true. Could he have avoided doing it, sure. But if you think LeBron left his team to join somebody “greater” than him, which is how I read that statement, or you think LeBron failed the team in big games, then you are a moron. He at times tightened up in the clutch. At times he excelled. Boobie had one good series. Period.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

anyone who thinks Daniel Gibson is right is a certifiable idiot. I have not read any of these comments so if I’m insulting someone who is normally intelligent I don’t apologize, right now, your an idiot.

Daniel Gibson is a garbage player. He’s known for his shooting and he BARELY hits threes anymore.

  • AQWORD

Boogie !:-)! You are weak. You choked at a 3 point contest for crying out loud. Get a job & stop crying. Lebron made his decision & thats why he [(probably) <------ you can take that out in 2 weeks.] gonna get his ring this year. @doyouwantmore – Who do you think will get the finals MVP ? The Star of the Show. Ive said it before & i'l say it again. It's Wades team but BRON IS THE MAN IN MIAMI. ( I love this part because there was so many haters saying Bron's ego aint gonna handle playing with another great baller. Well guess again hi$$$ing beeeyyaaaiche$$$ , the reality is that's exactly what he needed to take it to the next level , not playing with a bunch of moaning chumps) He is the man wherever he goes as far as basketball is concerned. All that other drama bullish is made up by media-leaches who want him to fail because they are jealous that he can do whatever he likes AND YOU CAN'T !

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

@JTaylor – Ha. You really don’t like dude, I see.
