DeShawn Stevenson: LeBron and Wade Are ‘Great Actors’

According to Stevenson, the Miami Heat’s dynamic duo spends far too much time complaining to the refs, which DeShawn can appreciate: “The drama that Heat players Dwyane Wade and LeBron James use when it comes to making fouls look more egregious than they really are is starting to wear on the Mavericks. As Stevenson said Monday, if you touch the Heat’s stars, ‘They’re great, great actors and they sell it.’ … ‘Coach said it before the series we have a chance to push the ball like we like because [Wade] complains to the ref a lot,’ Stevenson said. ‘We’ve got to take advantage of that. They tend to do that and we’ve got to take full advantage of that … He does it all the time. He did it like seven times [Sunday].’ Wade declined to comment when asked to respond, saying he would ‘talk about that after the series.’”

deshawn is still mad about the wizards/cavs series

  • jimmythesaint67

.. remembering Noah’s comment about “..SO Hollywood” .. and they’re right; that much complaining would get techs&suspensions for ANY other two players .. pfffft

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

LeBrando and D.WadeNiro will have you wishing for a bullet in the head, Fredo.

  • Anthony

Its true… All superstars do it when they miss or take a bad shot……. But Miami will still win

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick The Quick

Just like Boobie’s comments, this is where Heat fans quickly denigrate Deshawn for his comments and bring up whatever irrelevant history or opinion of Deshawn as a player, ignoring the simple fact that the Heat’s two stars do act a lot, just like many other star player, maybe even more.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

I thought the NBA was giving out technicals for this kind of behavior. Don’t stop in the Finals.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Until every other star in the league stops crying about fouls (including Dirk “I WAS SHOT LIKE I WAS FIGHTING IN THE BATTLE OF NUERNEBURG WHEN I WAS GRAZED ON THE ARM” Nowitski in this series” fans, haters and opposing players can suck the proverbial.

  • http://nba.com EJ

Dallas was getting the calls in game 3 tho.

  • http://www.nba.com Gman

yeah.. 27-14 in favor of Mavs.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

But if you look at Dirk the wrong way they call a foul…look at both sides..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

    They Hollywood as hell!

  • C

DeShawn only wish he could be as great as them. Keep crying….

  • bull22

right on deshawn, and the NBA needs to do something about these clowns that want to turn basketball into a WWF CIRCUS ACT…..

  • bull22

but DAVID STERN wont change anything, because he loves his two dear ladies too much, LEBRON and D-WADE, hahaahahahahahahahahahahhahahahha

  • Brahsef

^I thought you were busy slobbin on DRose now that he’s been discarded by the Heat. What are you doin here?

Star players get star calls. Always been like that in the NBA, always will be. Star players get the benefit of the doubt.

Oh and every player in the NBA is an “actor” now, it’s just part of the game. Deal with it.

  • rich

theres no simple way to stop this, the only thing they could do is give techs when you flop, or review it after the game and give penalties. its still too easy to draw fouls in basketball, at my college game some guy got to the line 24 times off of nonsense and the home crowd was booing us. when the ref cant see something they go off the players reaction, which is usually soft

  • Jred Schott

well, Dirk doesnt really play up his contact nearly as much as Lebron and Wade but Ref’s are quick with the whistle when Dirk has a player posted up.

  • bull22

@brahsef, someone said asked me months ago if i would stick around even after the bulls got eliminated and i have done that, iam not one of those losers who when his team gets eliminated i hide. i will agree many players do that, but not all do… as someone mentioned here they need to call technicals and give penalties….

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Soldier Boy can’t feel his face, but he sure as hell is gonna feel the icy glare of the refs next game.
This kind of statement only draws attention to the role player. Refs read papers and sites too, you fool.
That being said, Wade’s hissy fit in the 2nd qtr of game two was utterly disgraceful. Punk move.
Heat have been the usual since then though, Bosh really got poked in the eye that seemingly was already infected.

  • Gee

Every professional player in the leagues do the exact same thing. So I suppose that all of them are putting on a show. I wouldn’t be too concerned about what these players are doing these days. Just keep playing basketball and let the chips fall where they may. Go Heat!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I’d ask you moronic pundits to check the free-throw attempt number that Wade, Lebron and Dirk have put up through the first three games in this series….but you know….that would require the ability to read, generate rational thought, put away silly bias (Dark) and actually look at the game as it happens….not the way you wish it would. Some of you are the cream of the crop of stupid.

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

Bulls22 you were nott around for the Bulls/Heat series so don’t even try that mess. You came back after the smoke was cleared, when the Bulls were an afterthought on this site.

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

Wade is probably the most annoying whiner/flopper in the league. Staring down refs as opposed to getting back on defense has been perfected by that clown. I f*ced Eboy’s mom, and bulls22 is inbred. He’s his own 1st cousin so you have to understand why he’s so damn dumb.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

He plays with Dirk. There aren’t any better actors in the League than Dirk. And that’s not a shot, that’s just recognizing the fact that he has built his game wisely.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

E: my bias is no less “silly” than yours. Relax.
Nothing biased about me stating that Wade’s attitude when he got grazed by Chandler in that situation was messed up. Shouting at a ref, and hopping up & down while Kidd fed Marion for a transition dunk was dumb, no?
Didn’t once mention anything about FT-discrepancy, could care less, Mavs are losing atm, who cares who had more freethrows?

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

True, but they’re also averaging 500 dunks per game on your team. That’s not acting… Worry about that first.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

And Melo is worst than Wade when it comes to not getting back, but he’s the only one in the league.
Kobe treats refs worse than anyone though. He’s almost on Mike Jordan’s level when it comes to berating the refs.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

NOBODY got more phantom calls that Michael Jordan. He is considered the greatest player ever by a large majority of people. If you are able to persuade referee calls due to your ability and perception of absorbing contact, you are to be commended. That’s real. Like Allen said, Dirk is a master flopper, but it’s part of his game. And yes, Dark, he cries like a toddler too. Don’t cover for the dude.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I remember several weeks ago having a conversation in The Post Up where Bulls fans were a bit disappointed that D-Rose didn’t get the same amount of calls a guy like D-Wade gets on his drives. It kind of was accepted at the end of the conversation that Wade has the overwhelming ability to “sell” the fouls…a skill not yet mastered by D-Rose. It’s not a slight to the kid’s game….just a missing element.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

By what you are saying, Dwight isn’t a starplayer, cause he sure doesn’t get starcalls, or the benefit of the doubt..

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

JVG went on a mini-rant game 3 about how flopping was hurting the game. Mark Jackson stayed quiet…

  • bull22

@jukai, what mess dude, iam still here… i did not comment much during that period because i was florida on vacation, so who in their right mind is going to be blogging while they are at the beach… please…

  • bull22

@jukai, i cant stand eboy, but show respect to his mother or anyones mother for that matter, talk basketball instead of fantasizing about people’s mamas brother….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I’ll vouch for Jukai and say that wasn’t him spewing idiotness. *rolls eyes at the silliness of people STILL trying to “steal” other people’s screennames*

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Maybe Lebron and Wade are complaining to the refs because they aren’t getting any calls while if you try to grab a rebound against Dirk it’s automatically a foul. Just ask Haslem. lol

  • RobbieJay

i hate this phrase but bull22, you mad bro?

  • Anthony

nobody’s a bettter actor than bosh

  • http://slamonline.com everything

^anthony, actually i think James Harden is better.

  • i ball

poor miami fans, finally their team in winning any most of the basketball community discredits them for some reason. lol. personally i rather win a chip like the spurs did or the celtics or pistons heck even the lakers. lebron make me appreciate kobe. and ived never liked kobe. lol. now thats ballin.

DeShawn needs to stop talking trash if they be Miami in the Finals, then he can say whatever he wants. Lets see if he can hit 6 or 7 threes 2nite in game4. Better yet lets see if he contain Wade from driving and make`em shoot jumpers.

  • barnabusb

Harden should have been given a retroactive technical and been fined for that flop against Chandler’s elbow. That was sad.

  • toinefan88

I don’t have as much of a problem with flopping around for calls – although it is not the most honorable way to play – as I do with Lebron’s constant whining. I’d much rather see a guy like D-Rose maintaining body control throughout an entire move than these guys doing offensive flop-arounds. But the whining to the refs for every move that doesn’t work is really annoying. I would like to see some techs given out to put this in check but it has gotten so rampant now that that would probably backfire.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The Celtics had Garnett, Ray and Pierce. The Spurs had Duncan, Manu and Parker. The Lakers had Kobe, Gasol and Odom.
What exactly is the biggest difference aside from the fact that Miami has the best big three, and the worst bench of that bunch?

  • bull22

@robbiejay, nah man, if i was i would never write here, what alot of these jokers miss is yeah iam hard on lebron, but ever since the decision i dont care for him… but at one time i did pull hard for him to win a title in cleveland because i did feel sorry for the dude, but not no more….. i dont like players that blast their team when things dont go their way and never will either…

  • Heals

@Allenp, I think folks resent Mia more than those other teams because The C’s, Spurs and Lakers trios didn’t have 2 players regarded as the “top 5″ at the time. Not saying it is right but probably a factor…

  • Heals

As for the flopping, I think the League is more to blame than the players. Players weren’t punished when they did it in the past and now the culture has been established. JVG is always pushing the League office to make a statement, but it never happens. Add to that the inability of the refs (because of angles, incompetence and great “sell” jobs by players) to police it on the court and you get the problem we have today…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I agree that Miami has the best Big Three, but overall, while their team is solid, it’s not even close to being the most talent stocked.
And when the Heat joined forces, people were quick to say that Bron and Wade were too similar to succeed together.
Basically, It seems like people are okay with teaming up, as long as the team up is instituted by a general manager. Anything else is unfair.
    Which is crazy paternalistic.

Eboy: Nah, that wasn’t me. That wasn’t even me in the post before it. It’s crazy how we still can’t get logins.

  • http://www.slamonline.com unf*ckwitable

    Dirk acts pretty well too.

  • Paps

  • robb

Great players too, they’re killing you (stop watching Dirk and help the guy goddammit!)

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

Nah, that wasn’t me at 6:17 either. Fake heeb tryna steal screen names. We need logins! And I need a log in me if u know what I mean ;)

Dirk is the biggest actor in the Finals. Anytime he doesn’t make a shot he flops or wail his arms around and gets a foul call. The referees have been favoring Dallas since they’ve been there. Its really ridiculous. Three game straight the same thing happens. Each quarter the heat get in foul trouble so by about the 4 or 5 minute mark any time there is a foul Dallas is going to the foul line. The Heat have to get practically tackled to get a foul called.

If anyone cannot see how poor the officiating has been in the finals then you are a blind fool. If you want to call bogus fouls then call it even both ways. Don’t let plays happen like Lebron getting foul twice on a jump shot with a not call, but Dirk will miss a shot and conveniently when the Heat get the rebound a foul is call against them. Pretty suspicious to me.
