Dirk Nowitzki Overcome With Emotion After Winning Championship

We all saw Dirk bolt from the court after the Mavs had secured the ‘chip, and he explains that he had to get some time alone to savor the moment before facing the world again. From ESPN: “On the night he finally found vengeance, eternal validation and the highest measure of victory to wag in the face of anyone who had ever called him soft or mocked his cough, Dirk Nowitzki wasn’t going to let the world see his tears. So he left the scene of his greatest triumph before a single teammate or coach could grab him for a hug, faster than he’s ever hurdled a scorer’s table to bolt off the floor, and sneaked back to the visitors locker room. To cry alone. ‘I could already feel the tears coming,’ Nowitzki said in an AmericanAirlines Arena hallway, beaming now as he explained the mad dash at the final buzzer that superseded any urge he felt to dance on the court inside this house of old horrors … or to find out how it feels to get a congratulatory man-hug from Dwyane Wade. ‘I had to recover, bro.’ The Dallas Mavericks had to drag Nowitzki back to the podium of champions Sunday night so he could hoist the two trophies of his dreams, because he didn’t want anyone to see him like this, whether they were inside AmericaAirlines Arena or watching on TV. He admittedly ‘cried like a baby’ back in 2008 upon clinching Germany’s qualification for the Olympics for the first time in his career, but Nowitzki confessed that he was literally shaking with shock in the immediate aftermath of the Mavs’ 105-95 dismantling of the Miami Heat to win the 2011 NBA Finals. ‘We’re world champions,’ Nowitzki eventually said once he made it to the interview room, with his Finals MVP trophy and a champagne bottle in tow. ‘It sounds unbelievable.’”

Like i said before, I used to hate him for no reason and thought he was soft and a choker, but man did he prove me and many others wrong this season. I’m also glad Jkidd got a ring and laughing that corey brewer got a ring by being traded from the knicks haha.

Well earned, Dirk. Well earned… I’m happy he didn’t shake hands w/WAD3 and especially LBJ. They would have gotten sick… cough, cough.

Chris Bosh was overcome with emotions too. and despite playing the best out of the 3 stars in game 6, dude still manages to embarass himself and invite ridicule.

Can’t hate on the tears on any side. That’s got to be a pretty crazy thing to go through win or lose, since most of these guys have been playing since grade or middle school, dreaming of being there.

In my opinion Dirk is the most skilled big to ever play in the league. Props to mark cuban on the victory….Lebron who?

Exactly what I say. I’m glad Chris Bosh cared, and one day maybe the experience will make a victory all the sweeter for him. So happy for Nowitzki– I jumped on the Mavs’ bandwagon this postseason because of him.

I’m reading a lot of tweets & FB posts defending Lebron from criticism. Remember, Dirk was the most criticized player in ’06, ’07, and ’08. Dirk “choked” in the ’06 Finals, was “undeserving” of the MVP trophy in ’07, and was every rapper’s punchline after Mavs lost to Warriors. Through it all, though, he stayed in Dallas, never copping out to the criticism, and has now been vindicated. Lebron should take notes.

Well it is Chris Bosh, he’s been really open about EVERYTHING during these playoffs, we’re talkin about an All-Star who never made it out the 1st round that all of a sudden ends up in the Finals. . . . . .thats gotta suck. . . .or maybe he’s cryin becasue he feels he’ll be the first to go if they decide to trade one of the big 3
