Dwayne Casey Favorite To Become Raptors Coach

Seems like defensive-minded assistants are getting the leg-up in open coaching gigs—Casey was mastermind behind the Mavericks’ tough defense this season. From CBC Sports: “Various media outlets were reporting Saturday that Dallas Mavericks assistant Dwayne Casey is the clear favourite to land the job. The former Minnesota Timberwolves head coach had been rumoured to be one of the final candidates along with Boston Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank to fill the vacancy after the Raptors relieved Jay Triano of his head coaching responsibilities at the beginning of June.”

I hope he hires a good offensive assistant, D alone isn’t enough, gotta find that balance.

The Raptors don’t have a problem with offense, other than taking too many jumpshots. Defense should be the first focus, definitely. Good defense can bring a sub-.500 team to the playoffs. Good defense with good offense can bring a team deep into the playoffs.

I don’t understand why you’d leave the Mavs to take on a coaching role with Toronto. Isn’t winning more important?

career Hursty career. you dont pass up a head coaching gig, especially since u already won it all! (with a team that aint gonna repeat or even challenge imo). raps are on the up-n-up and theres a lot to work with there
