Glen Davis’ Murky Future With the Boston Celtics

Big Baby will soon be an unrestricted free agent, and he doesn’t sound so sure that Boston is the place for him to continue his career. In fact, he sounds confused in general. From WEEI: “In his fourth season with the team Davis emerged as a legitimate Sixth Man of the Year candidate after averaging a career-high 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and playing almost 30 minutes a night. Davis was often on the floor at the end of games and seemed to have found himself in the perfect situation to utilize his unique skill-set. Yet things became complicated in the postseason when he averaged just 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 39 percent. ‘I pride myself on playing good basketball, especially when you need it,’ Davis said on Monday after a team-sponsored charity event. ‘Every postseason I’ve played tremendously good to the point where it was like wow and this [spring] it didn’t happen. Because I felt mentally I wasn’t ready and prepared enough for what was in front of me. It affected the way I played and that’s what I’ve been doing this offseason, concentrating on that and making sure postseason’s like this don’t happen to me.’ In an interview with WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan after the season, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that he thought Davis was affected by his upcoming free agency. While acknowledging his own poor play, Davis also responded to Rivers. ‘I know Doc talks a lot. I don’t pay attention to that,’ Davis said. ‘That’s what he does. That’s Doc. He loves to talk.’ Davis said that he has thought about leaving Boston, but that ultimately he wants to be in a position where he can be himself. ‘I can’t perform the way I need to perform if I’m not Glen Davis,’ he said. ‘I need to be in a situation where I can be Glen Davis. If it’s here with the Celtics or with somebody else. I just want to make sure I’m Glen Davis.’ Asked if he could be ‘Glen Davis’ in Boston, he said, ‘It just depends on the system, the people who are around the system. Who’s going to let Glen Davis be Glen Davis, not make Glen Davis something that they think he should be. Glen Davis is Glen Davis. Everyone knows who Glen Davis is. You’ve seen Glen Davis play the game like it’s supposed to be played.’”

So If Glen Davis an unrestricted free agent, then what is Big Baby?
How come no one interviewed Big Baby and find out which situation is best for Big Baby to be Big Baby?
Im just so confused right now.

  • toinefan88

As a Celtics fan I don’t like this at all. You can’t come at Doc like that. KG needs to get up in his face next time he sees him.

  • corey

I like big baby…love is hustle, but he’s a 6th man at best.

  • ClydeSays

Glen Davis thinks Glen Davis is a starter. I love him as as hustle/bench guy, but obviously Glen Davis thinks that Glen Davis is destined for bigger things.

  • dahon

i think he’s still suffering from that elbow blow from howard last year…glen davis can always play in china. please leave the nba.

  • http://slamonline.com Tracy

Glen Davis thinks Glen Davis is the best basketball player since Glen Davis.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

He wants to start and he won’t be able to do that in Boston for at least another year. For whatever reason he was awful in this year’s playoffs, after having a pretty darn solid season. I say let the dude go.

  • ripslam

I think Glen Davis needs the Celtics more than the Celtics need Glen Davis. Glen Davis.

  • fruizm

this reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where they play basketball with this guy who talks in the third person haha.

  • mdshuai33

Him and Rihanna should do a collab on “whats my name”

  • MikeC.

Why are all you guys getting on Glen Davis for this? Glen Davis just wants to be Glen Davis. Maybe Glen Davis can be Glen Davis in Boston, or maybe Glen Davis can be Glen Davis somewhere else. The important thing for Glen Davis is that he remains Glen Davis. If Glen Davis stops being Glen Davis, then Glen Davis won’t know who Glen Davis is. If Glen Davis doesn’t know who Glen Davis is because Glen Davis can’t be Glen Davis in Boston, then why would Glen Davis try to be Glen Davis in Boston when Glen Davis can be Glen Davis somewhere….wait. What’s Glen Davis happening here? What was I Glen Davis talking about? I’m gonna go Glen Davis grab a beer and maybe when I Glen Davis come back, I can Glen Davis make sense of this. Glen Davis.

  • MikeC.

My favorite part is “Everyone knows who Glen Davis is.” Really? I know some hardcore hoops fans who refer to him as “that fat guy on the Celtics, you know, the one that spit all over the place last year.”

  • Anony Mous

Until you get injured, you crybaby.

  • smoove

cant stand when people constantly talk in third person

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Go easy on him, he only repeats his name so he doesn’t forget it. He was so embarrassed the last time someone asked him his first name and the only answer he had was, “Big.”

  • James

Glen Davis saying that someone else talks too much is about as idiotic as Anthony Weiner having to apologize to Bill Clinton.

I think its time for Big Baby/Glen Davis to move on along..

  • -Mas-

    Barbara Streisand!

  • mick

loose some weight Glen. Maybe he should look at Nate’s minutes these days.

  • BostonBaller

G Davis is a pretty good player but not as good as HE thinks he is. A lot of players get an inflated picture of their worth when they get a chip AND actually contribute to getting it. When he listens to DOC (who likes to talk) he actually produces and when he listens to Glen Davis who tells Glen Davis he is an all star his limitations flare up. There are only a few players who were limited role players who flourished once they got the green light and I don’t believe GDavis will be one of those players.

  • ernieD

I think Glen Davis is taking Doc’s words to heart “It’s time for Glen Davis to be Glen Davis, and not Big Baby.”

  • MeInTheB

Glen Davis is a legend in his own mind. If he spent as much time in the gym as he did yapping about ‘Glen Davis’, he might have been an actual contributor during the playoffs. Instead, he was doughy and slow. Time to put the fork down and do some free weights and cardio, Glen Davis.
