Greg Oden Might Not Play Again Until January

Oden’s reps are looking to land their client a long-term deal, preferably in Portland, even though he might not suit up again for a long time. From Blazersedge: “Bill Duffy, President of BDA Sports, the agency that represents Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden, joined Brian Berger on 750 AM The Game. His appearance followed one from Blazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan. The Blazers must offer Oden a Qualifying Offer by June 30 to make him a restricted free agent. Of note, Duffy says that Oden wants to be in Portland long-term but that it could be January before Oden is back playing basketball, adding that ‘we’ll wait until we get full clearance and then probably err on the side of caution, maybe a month or so after that.’ Duffy also said that Oden has undergone ‘counseling, therapy, interventions’ to deal with the mental aspect of all of his injuries.”

    Damn this is sad

This is why the CBA is gonna blow up the NBA. No team should even THINK about giving Oden more than a 1-year deal, but you bet he’ll get it somewhere. Then if he gets injured and misses years of the contract (while still getting paid), he’ll be used as a reason these guys don’t deserve guaranteed money. No…they do, but if you’re stupid enough to pay guys who miss multiple seasons for multiple years, you kinda brought it on yourself

this is really sad but you know if he gets right hes getting a ring, big defensive centers with that size and athletic ability dont play on losing teams

I can only imagine the mental anguish this guy’s going through. I remember he was such a happy and funny kid back in college and his first year. I truly hope that personality hasn’t been erased by all of this hardship.

I think he should consider retirement.

Co-sign Robb I hope to God the people around this guy can help his mental state and coping with the injuries. Basketball may be more than his legs can take.
