James Jones Hits the Free Agent Market

The Miami Heat’s sharpshooter opted out of his current deal, making James Jones a free agent: “Saying he merely was looking to ‘find the best situation for me,’ Miami Heat forward James Jones confirmed Wednesday to the Sun Sentinel that he has decided to opt out of the 2011-12 season on his contract. Jones, however, stressed that the decision was not in response to being benched for the final nine games of the playoffs, including all six games of the NBA Finals, which the Heat lost to the Dallas Mavericks. ‘If anything,’ Jones said, ‘making it to the Finals is an enticement to stay.’”

They were better with him on the floor, offensively. He must look at Mike Millers $50M and be bitter. He contributed WAY more than Miller to the season than Miller did. He should bounce.

Jones is a better player than Mike Miller. And Jones is smart for leaving Miami, because he wants to play, not choke and not rot on the bench for the Superchokes; wasn’t getting any playing time behind D-Wasted and LeChoke in the playoffs.

I always wondered why Spo never played James Jones… I thought he was injured. Meh good for him, get some playing time elsewhere kid!

jones is one dimensional and still not better than mike miller. One season full of injuries and inconsistency for mike miller doesn’t change anything between the two.

I thought he was injured too.

agree with Riggs. Mike Miller can ball when healthy.

No way James Jones is a better player than Miller. He can’t handle, pass or rebound like Miller. He’s good for 3s and an occasional flop… I mean charge. However, Mike Miller was hurt and Miami probably could have given Jones some minutes if anything just to keep the floor spread. But i don’t see Miami even offering him a deal.

Honestly the Lakers couldn’t pick up a better player. Please pick him up! Kobe, Derek and Peace cannot be your ‘big’ 3 point threats.

the offense didn’t utillize this 43% 3pt shooter. One game he shoots 11 shots or something and the next he takes 1. in 27 minutes. Wow. Yah Lakers need this guy. But probably don’t have the money to sign him.

Jones did a great job of filling in when Miller was out. However, if/when Miller is healthy, it’s not even close between the two players. I don’t blame Jones for leaving though. It was nice of him to crash Piere and Ray’s 3 pt shootout @ ASG.

It’s not because he’s opting out that he won’t come back. Miami waived him last year before July 1 only to sign him a couple of weeks later. He loses absolutely nothing by opting out since his contract was for the veteran’s minimum.

Yea, Mike Miller is twice the player James Jones is when healthy. That being said, we’ll take you in Indiana James.
