John Kuester Joins Mike Brown’s Lakers Staff

As expected, head coach Mike Brown named the former bench boss of the Pistons as his assistant coach. From the Daily News: “Kuester and Brown worked together in Cleveland, so the hiring wasn’t much of a surprise. It figures to be the first of several hires Brown makes as he fills out his coaching staff. Chuck Person, who was an assistant to Phil Jackson the last two seasons, is believed another selection to serve with Brown. Jim Boylen, a former University of Utah coach, is another. Quin Snyder and former Italian national team coach Ettore Messina are believed to be the others in line to join the Lakers’ staff. Snyder was the director of player development with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. Kuester coached the Detroit Pistons for the last two seasons before being fired. He barely survived a players’ mutiny at midseason. He was 57-107 in two seasons, with the Pistons missing the playoffs twice … Here’s a quote from Kuester about joining Brown’s staff: ‘I’m extremely excited to be working with Mike Brown, as well as to have the opportunity to work with the Lakers, one of the premier organizations in the NBA.’”

    Can we sack Brown yet?

Oh Lord. Kuester is an idiot. Just bad, not a good choice. Brian Shaw would have been 10 times better, I wonder what happened there.

With none of the same players^ ya. I was alright with Brown, but Kuester is one of my least favorite dude in the L. Hopefully the Lakers can turn him into lemonade.

I can’t wait till the Lakers start bickering and quit coming to practice. This guy has not had a winning record anywhere. In college, NBA, whatever (as a head coach). Maybe he’s ok as an offensive assistant. But Detroit’s offense wasn’t that great either.

I don’t get why they don’t keep Brian Shaw around to handle the offense and just let Mike Brown do what he’s good at and coach the defense. Are they seriously going to scrap the triangle now? Handling Kobe’s reaction is going to be Kuester’s first test, and he couldn’t even handle Rip Hamilton…

Kuester su*ks as a coach. But as an assistant to Brown, they went 66 regular season wins and 2 wins away from the finals. But knowing its title or bust for LA, everything’s gonna get criticized.
