LeBron James Addresses His Haters

The media asked LeBron what he thought of the people who delighted in his Finals shortcomings, and an understandably frustrated James shot back with a not-so-elegant response: “Q. LeBron, obviously you’ve dealt with so much criticism for the last year that wasn’t at all to do with basketball. When you’re getting criticized for what’s happening on the court, does that bother you? LeBRON JAMES: No, that doesn’t bother me. I understand this is a huge stage, and you want to perform well for nobody else besides your teammates. That’s ultimately what it’s about for me. If I can play well for my teammates, help my teammates win basketball games, then I’m always satisfied with that. It hurts me, and I get on myself when I’m not able to play well and help my teammates win. Q. Does it bother you that so many people are happy to see you fail? LeBRON JAMES: Absolutely not. Because at the end of the day, all the people that was rooting on me to fail, at the end of the day they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life that they had before they woke up today. They have the same personal problems they had today. I’m going to continue to live the way I want to live and continue to do the things that I want to do with me and my family and be happy with that. They can get a few days or a few months or whatever the case may be on being happy about not only myself, but the Miami Heat not accomplishing their goal, but they have to get back to the real world at some point.”

ok. I am not going to argue with you about this, or that topic if it ever came up, simply because I don’t are about which player anyone “likes/feel loyalty towards.” To me that has nothing to do with it. There is no loyalty when rating players. If I told you all-time pick a team of 5 to save your family. You would not pick 5 players you felt loyalty towards, you’d pick the ones that you feel are the best.

I think Lebron should stop allowing the media to bait him into these ridiculous quotes. No one likes criticism but he should take the high road and behave as humbly as possible. Then take all that crap people say and use that to fuel you to to improve your game and get the job done in crunch time. He should stop venting and just keep that inside and let it drive and motivate him. Dirk has heard that he’s soft for his whole career and I never hear a peep out of him. But all that hate and negativity made him into a fantastic player and now a champion. Remember when Golden State and Don Nelson punked him on ’07? He was exposed. He didn’t complain or whine. He worked on his game, redeemed himself and fulfilled a lifelong dream. All those NBA analysts interviewed and congratulated him last night and I could see in their faces that they wish they could have accomplished the metamorphosis and triumph Dirk did. What he and Jason Terry did was truly remarkable.

Lebron is lashing out at the wrong people. He should lash out while looking in the mirror. I hate that he brings up God when he talks about winning. For believers it’s offensive that he would suggest that somehow God gives a sh*t about a damn game, and that he specifically will be given a championship. God’s will is the reason you played like sh#t? C’mon son. For non-believers it just sounds stupid. I understand that reporters ask stupid questions for the sake of getting a reaction, but Lebron just isn’t very media-savy. He plays into their hands by saying dumb stuff. He should know better as many years as he’s been in the spotlight. Whoever is responsible for his P.R should have done a better job of preparing him for hostile media. He seems like he really read the articles and started to believe the hype. A young black man should know better. He should’ve known how the mainstream media would turn on him. I mean, he’s more hated than Ben R#pistburger and he’s never even been arrested. It’s Lebron’s own fault that he was too dumb to see the backlash coming. Leading the Heat to the chip would have been the ultimate middle finger to the haters. Instead, he lost while playing crappy and adopts a woe is me attitude. I’m not even a fan of his anymorem

  • Red

Dude..sports is a passionate aspect of American lifestyle, were you naturally born stupid? As fans we will pass opinions, it’s not hate. Shut up lol.

LEBRON NOBOBY’S HATING! JUST DISPOINTED IN THE WHOLE DAMN TEAM…WELL JUST ANYTHING IN LIFE…MAKING PROMISES U CAN’T KEEP…THAT’S HOW U GIVE PEOPLE FALSE HOPE…..THAT’S RIGHT JUST LIKE CHARLES SAYS; YOU ARE NOT ROLE MODELS!

  • doyouwantmore

This is what happens when you have a sense of entitlement.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

It’s hate. When you focus on a single player, on the losing TEAM, in a championship series of a TEAM sport, you are hating. You can get defensive if you want, just means your ignorantly hating. Is LeBron an egomaniac? probably. does he need to be more humble? definitely. but is it his fault Miami lost? no, it’s Dallas’ fault. Does Miami losing in the finals (which is further along then most everyone predicted they would make it) make LeBron a failure? not at all. Have all you idiots forgotten about the Boston and Chicago series, where LeBron was clearly the best player on earth? yep, because this hating right here, this pointless BS, is more entertaining, or makes you happier, whatever. If you want to have a conversation about how LeBron could have been better and what he did wrong, that’s not hating, that is discussing and examining. People are using LeBron losing in the finals to the Mavericks to say he’s worse then Kobe and all sorts of other irrelevant sh*t. which is hating, and its pointless and stupid.

I wonder why the LeBron against Chicago or Boston didn’t show up against Dallas. That’s what kinda confuses me.

  • O

It kills me how Miami has the “Big 3″ but when it’s press conference time, it’s always Wade and James together while Bosh goes on dolo. And y’all wonder who’ll be traded this off season??

  • http://thosefishtacosarethetits.blogspot.com Chris_Griff_3

I woke up today with so many personal problems. I wish I could have Lebron’s life, where my reality is so much different than the rest of reality. Seriously, dude needs to get humbled.

LeBronchitis: an exceedingly rare, progressive disorder primarly affecting the esophageal tract of overhyped ballers from Akron, Ohio. The onset of this condition may be marked by profuse sweating, girlish nailbiting and a reluctance/refusal to make clutch shots (particularly in the fourth quarter NBA Finals games). Other symptoms may include but are not limited to: choking

  • hillbilly

    also: Dirk-1, LeJerk-0 (enjoy your vacation, b!tch)

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Me too Black. It’s befuddling how he played. I would assume he uses his resources to find someone that can help him figure things out. — I can help him figure things out actually, he just needs to find a comfortable offensive move or area or whatever to go to when things aren’t going his way. Steve Kerr spoke on this on a few radio shows this morning, and I agree. What seperates LeBron from the other greats is his lack of a marquee move, like Jordan and Kobe’s post-move fadeaway, or Dirk’s pinch post-up, even Derrick Rose has that little double cross move that he counters with a spin when he’s in trouble. LeBron has go 30 feet from the basket and run full speed….that’s not really a very useful weapon in a half-court situation. I can help the Heat too, I’ll shoot the ball from anywhere on anyone, so let Pat know if they need someone who isn’t scared to give me a holler lol.

  • All Day

@O: I noticed that too! I’m surprised people don’t ask them questions about that during their press conferences.

  • Tom

totally agree lebron has no go to move. He needs to be around the correct trainers, I noticed certain tendencies in his game. He can be a lethal three point shooter if he hesitates before he shoots. He can’t catch and shoot, he has this hitch before he goes up in the air, and normally if he is allowed that time he becomes a knock down three point shooter. I think he has the mentality of a street ball player still, which is fine, but he really needs a go to move and constantly work on the footwork and perfect it. He needs that trainer who worked with MJ and helped D Wade rehab his shoulder his name was like Tim or Tom Grover.

  • Tom

I got it his go to move should be in the post where he fakes going right then turn around left baseline layup or dunk, he did that in the fourth and scored last game, if he practices that move it can open up a world for him in the post. At the end of the day he gets the ball in the post constantly but then turns around and faces up on the defender which is annoying, he needs to stop that…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Tim Grover. He doesn’t really help develop basketball skills. He is literally a trainer. The best thing for LeBron would be David Thorpe. Thorpe taught Kevin Martin to be effective at any level. He works with players on usable skills, he’s the type of person LeBron needs. IMO

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Honestly if LeBron could develop a real mid-range game that’s all he will really need. He is so big and fast that he has some kind of inherent advantage over every defender, a consistent mid-range jumper (truly consistent, not the product of confidence) would keep defenders honest…IMO that is all he really needs. (I basically plagiarized that idea from AllenP)

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

People are finally seeing what I saw years ago in this guy. He’s not a leader, he disappears in big moments, and is immature and quite a prick. He proved that he isn’t even the best player on his team, Wade carried that team to 2 wins in the Finals. I never thought I’d say this, but they are gonna have to revamp that team, yet again. The Big 3 stay, but they need to let a lot of those guys go and get guys that are gonna make a difference. They need to keep Chalmers and get rid of Bibby, Juwan Howard will likely retire, they also need to get rid of Erick Dampier, Eddie House, Mike Miller, and Jamaal Magloire. They need to get some veterans that can contribute and show LeBron and Bosh what it takes to win. Cause LeBron just doesn’t have it. He has no excuses, and he knows it. He came to Miami to win, not 1, not 2 not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7. So, he has some big words to back up, and he isn’t doing it. I think Chalmers is their point guard, but if not, they need to consider going for a guy like Steve Nash. Add him to the mix, and as bad as I hate to say it, they are basically unstoppable. LeBron will have his day, I’m sure, but people are always gonna say that he couldn’t do it without a stacked team. And, they are right.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

alot of ya’ll are tripping bc it’s lebron.. i actually don’t have a problem with this. people spent so much time throwing so much undeserved hate at a guy who literally did nothing to them. in the end, he’s still a surefire hall of famer and they’re still worthless. so cosign sizzle.. and i would agree with nbk.. lebron needs a go to move.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

for example see the post by “the promise” the first sentence? he’s tripping.. i like the rest of what he’s saying though.

  • Tom

in order for him to develop a real mid range game he will need post moves, which require footwork and attention to detail and good form, he has none of this right now.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

developing a post game comes after you develop midrange game if your a wing player. If he was a center or power forward you would be right, but playing in the post won’t do him much good if he can’t shoot. Its not like you can put him on the block every play, he wouldn’t be a wing at that point.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

My man is giving out slick passes today, a la LBJ. I thought you were a shooter, Sooper?

  • Tom

well then I would suggest he switch up his jump shot form if that is possible

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

whatchu mean BC? (a little distracted at work, “denser” than usual)

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

well its not like LeBron can’t shoot Tom, he can. He just seems to have a little too much movement in his form. Few things I would cut out of his shot if I was given the time, but other then that repetition is more important than form, atleast from my experience it is (Reggie Miller, Chuck Person, good examples of what I mean).

  • bike

Can’t fathom all the negativity towards LeBron. It’s pretty simple–Dallas played better team ball than Miami. Miami either tried isolation plays with James and Wade who neither had a good game or acted like they had no idea what to do down the stretch. Wade’s play sucked and Bosh was a no show. So if you want to come down on LeBron, come down on the other two of the big three.

  • Tom

No i feel you, but these guys atleast had a fluid motion, lebron shoots best when he hesitates for like a second and then go up for the shot, his most favorite thing to do are crazy fade aways, i feel thats because he gets to pose in the air for like a second before he releases. But in all honesty he is an nba top professional. He has to be getting repetitions in daily, I feel there is something fundamentally wrong with his mechanic, and whatever the problem is gets stressed in late game situations. What it is, I am not sure. All I know is, that most of the time when he shoots, as a fan I hope the ball goes in the bucket but I am never confident in it.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

THere is a difference between good practice and just practice. Dirk practices the shots he shoots in games, he exaggerates his movements, prepares his body for what is actually happening on a night in, night out basis. I’ve seen some tape of LeBron is practice, and he seems to do the basic stand in one shot and shoot the same set shot over and over again. And the typical two dribble, or catch on the move and turn and shoot. I know he has more drills he follows, but those are the ones I see consistently. And guess what, he rarely ever gets shots like that in games. And when he does, he never shoots them like he does in practice. — Mechanics wise, a jumpshot isn’t like swinging a baseball bat, throwing a football, or hitting a golf ball. There is no “right-way” to shoot, everyone has different physical mechanics that change the angles of releases, and effect the rotation of the ball. Best advice I can give someone working on their shot iwthout actually sitting down and watching them is to minimize movement, and stay consistent. A players release should be the same from 40+ feet, as it is from 4 feet, which LeBron’s isn’t….if you need evidence, check that little 6 foot jumpshot that missed the rim with like 8 minutes left in the 4th yesterday.

Somebody needs to pull on this cat’s coattails and tell him you can’t say whatever comes into your head. You just can’t do that.

  • snasty10

so much hate for a guy none of us even know personally, im not a huge lebron fan but i dont hate him and want the guy to fail, i think he is still the best player in world at this moment, and if you think he cares about what you or anyone thinks i highly doubt it, dude has a baller mansion in miami with enough money to last him 3 lifetimes, he plays the game he loves everyday with his friends, thats his job, so go on and hate, cuz like he said most of us have to wake up in the morning and go back to the real world, while he still lives a life we could only fantasize about.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    Damn

  • HAMMER

@snasty. Just like we don’t know him personally, he doesn’t know any of us personally. Just cuz we don’t have millions doesn’t exactly mean w that our lives suck.

  • HAMMER

He has trials and tribulations just like the rest of us. No1 is immune 2 that.

  • JB

Lebron wakes up with two problems. No ring and the most hated player ever in the history of the NBA. Good luck Lebron…you need it!

  • snasty10

@hammer dude who gives a sh** what he said, i dont, lebron could die tmr and i would go about my life as if nothing happens, if you honestly take anything an athlete says to heart, you are a moron, these dudes get payed milllions of dollars to play a game children play, and no im not saying my life sucks or yours, but i would switch spots with lebron in a second, even today i would rather have lebrons lifestyle then mine, and if you say that you wouldnt, then you sir are full of sh**

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

nbk is definitely right. Lebron needs to develop a consistent, signature move that is extremely tough to stop.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

lol @ snasty10: So you’d “trade lives” with ANYONE who is rich? Okay…

  • snasty10

ya i would, wouldnt you? at least their lifestyle, you dont wanna pop bottles with models, fly on private jets all over the world, go to awesome events, get copped at every night club you go to, actually you know what you right i dont want any of that….sike

  • seriousblack

Why do you care what people are saying about Lebron, snasty? You are taking criticism of him very personal. See how that works? No one is taking what he said personal because he doesn’t know us and we don’t know him. That doesn’t mean people can’t be disgusted at the attitude he’s displayed throughout the series. You are coming off like a kid. Why would you want to trade lives with anyone you don’t know? Do you know everything that he deals with on a day to day basis? Do you know anything about his real life besides what you read on the net? For someone who’s criticizing other folks comments you sure made a dumb one yourself.

I usually don’t have a prob w/what pro athletes say. But when they think that their sh!t don’t stink and feel like they could insult and step on us “ordinary people” whenevet they choose 2 do so, that’s what I have a prob with. So yeah, call me a moron. And who wouldn’t want 2 have the millions that LBJ has? He’s set 4 life. Who wouldn’t want that? But that’s not the point. I explained my pov earlier so I don’t need 2 delv n2 that again. My point is: Watch what u say and how u say it. Take the “other people” n cosideration. Is that 2 much 2 ask 4? I think not

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Nah, it was more like Will Perdue

  • snasty10

how am i taking it personal? im not crying right now cuz everyone is hating on lebron, im just trying to bring a different perspective to the whole thing, and ya some of you are taking it personal, i can tell. Im coming off like a kid? you guys are obsessing about a game children play, ya you can be disgusted by this attitude, but dont gloat cuz he failed, all of us fail and hell ya i would like to be rich right now,

  • snasty10

@hammer i respect that answer, i didnt see that while typing

  • Harlem_World

Hi haters. Stop being pawns in this media game. The hate towards this man from all angles makes no sense. His game is still developing, yes he says some immature things at times but last time I checked, he never got arrested for raping a young girl in colorado or anywhere else I’m aware of. Yet he’s getting hung out to dry like he’s public enemy number 1. Like, what has he actually done to you to make you feel the way you do about him? This is out of whack. He’s better than I am, because if I were him getting all this bullship, my response would be alot worse than his, please believe.

LeBron just needs to develop that PC filter. Know when a sarcastic remark is allowed and when to be politically correct. You can tell he had reservations about saying what he said by the pause he took when the question was asked. He knew he should have stopped at “Absolutely not.” But that devil on his shoulder told him to deliver this pre planned response and it backfired. lol
