Mark Jackson: Warriors Can Make 2012 NBA Playoffs

The Golden State Warriors’ new coach kicks things off in The Bay with a fairly big promise. The San Fran Chronicle has the transcript from Mark Jackson’s chat with reporters last night: “Will you stop the Warriors’ uptempo style? ‘Absolutely not. We will push the basketball. We will look to make plays in transition. We will not just push it just to be pushing it. We’ll have a mindset to take care of the basketball, to get quality looks. But those looks are going to be earned on the defensive end. You’re not going to have a license to shoot when you’re not getting it done on the other end. They will be held accountable and there will be a price to pay. I’ve come to the mindset that the only way to win in this league and win big is defensively. So we will be committed on the defensive side of the ball.’ Jerry West said in a recent interview that he thought the Warriors weren’t far away. What are your thoughts? ‘I agree. When you look at that talent level, this is certainly a team that’s more than capable of making the playoffs and making a run. No problem on the offensive end. Can score the basketball. Certainly got to get better with the ability to score on the low block where teams get quality points and easy points. But that’s going to come. But the main thing is the culture has to change. Continue to play solid basketball. You have to be a successful team at home, take care of your business and then compete on the road. Inexcusable not to compete on the road. There are things that will no longer be tolerated. I’m excited about changing the culture in the Bay land.’”

That’s a pretty bold statement. On a side note, I read that whole quote in Mark Jackson’s voice.

IF they draft, trade, and get taller. They were 4th in line for last playoff spot last year…that’s an even bigger jump than it sounds. That’s why I’m pushing for Iggy. But they still need more.

i say trade for iggy and then draft a big man

  • rich

if they get iggy and draft jonas or dontas i guess it can be done, they also have to get david lee rebounding like he did in NY and playing like he did before all the team injuries started for gstate

    Welcome to Bay Land!

In addition to getting a big, trading for talent that would fit in better with whatever system Jackson cooks up, and playing some defense, one of the western conference playoff teams would have to fall off next season.
I don’t see Memphis falling off.
I don’t see LA falling off.
I don’t see San Antonio missing the playoffs.
    Dallas either.
    Ditto for OKC.
The Hornets, Blazers and Nuggets, for various reasons, might miss the playoffs.
But then you got teams like Houston, or Phoenix or even the Clippers who might make the playoffs.
I dunno. I just don’t see GS getting in.

I automatically read that quote from Jackson in a Mark Jackson ESPN outro voice.

The West is always stacked. Imagine how easy it would be for teams like Houston, Phoenix, New Orleans, Portland, and Memphis–the teams that usually fight each other for the last few playoff spot–to make the playoffs in the East. Man… They should move Houston to the Eastern conference.

  • Mr. Hand Down Man Down

That was not a “Grown Man Move” Mr. Jackson, “You’re better than that” “You talk about” BAY Land???? SMH…..”Mama, there goes that man”

Im just glad Mark finally got his chance. Also, at least temporarily, im glad he’s not a broadcaster. Along w/Van Gundy they were terrible commentators

Starting 5 for YOUR Golden State Warriors in 2013:
    Curry, Iguodala, Wright, Lee……HOWARD!
    Make it happen, West!

I think golden state could do it.. Draft a big.. Get iggy.. Play some d.. And hope David lee is over his injuries. This can work.. They won’t be more than 6th seed tho…

  • Deandre Jordan

What do you guys think about this? GSW gets Kaman, PHI gets M8E, & LAC gets iggy

  • BadBadLeroyBrown

@Teddy if any team moves to the East, it should be Memphis. Geographically speaking.
