Miami Heat Had ‘Mental Breakdown’ Late in Game 2

The Heat made a myriad of errors at the end of Game 2 of the NBA Finals last night, but the most glaring gaffe was not fouling Dirk Nowitzki prior to his game-winning layup, when they still had a foul to give. From the Palm Beach Post: “The Mavericks called timeout with 24.5 seconds left. The game was tied. Everyone knew who would get the ball. Erik Spoelstra, however, had options. He had the option of assignment. He assigned Chris Bosh, not Udonis Haslem, to Dirk Nowitzki. ‘Yeah, that’s a tough one,’ Spoelstra said. ‘I know UD probably is really wishing he had that opportunity to defend him. He had gotten a couple over the top, and the end of the game running it all the way down to the clock, could have gone with either guy. Both guys are good defenders.’ Spoelstra had the option of ordering a foul, before anyone shot. Apparently, he did something close. ‘We talked about it,’ Spoelstra said. ‘We’ve been in that situation before. We didn’t use the foul. Obviously, it looks like right now you could second-guess that, but we didn’t take it.’ ‘It was a mental breakdown on us,’ Dwyane Wade said. ‘We’ll take it. We all said in the huddle, our coaches said it. Sometimes when you’re in the moment — Dirk made a great move to get a little step on Chris. Obviously if we can go back and do it, we have grabbed him before he could get up.’ ‘He gave me a quick move, and at that point, I didn’t feel that I had leverage for the foul, because he was going into a shooting motion,’ Bosh said. ‘Like I say, it was just all bad defense for me.’”

Bron sucked. Bosh sucked. Filipino Simpleton’s all around. Anyone care to f*ck with me today about my insult? Make my Friday….please.

  • nate

Miami Heat are much overrated and will lose to the Dallas Mavs! Lebron and Wadfe both suck! Bosh isn’t even good enough to make fun of!

  • Pippen Ain’t Easy

“Bosh” and “good defender” should not be used in the same paragraph.

  • Layzie

I feel bad for Wade. Had such a great game but lebron n bosh sucked. Wade finally has it goin offensively n they end up losing. Pisses me off. They better redeem themselves sunday!

  • Gee

You said make my Friday….Looks like you did a pretty good job of doing that all by yourself.

  • unknow

suck it up and move on

  • ann

let the pass be the pass and move on and win this thing.

  • Clownfish31

I for one do not like how James’ incessant celebration and childishness rubs off on his teammates. Wade had an amazing game and prior to this year he would not have raised his arms in celebration or danced a jig or walked down the court with a smug smile in his face in front of the opposing team’s bench. The Wade of past would have sent a cold hard stare down the court and stepped on the gas pedal even harder. Instead, the Heatles celebrated prematurely and had a mental breakdown and let the opportunity for a 2-0 lead slip right past them. If there is any poetic justice in this world, Wade and Lebron will forever look back at 2011 as the year they could have added one more count to their championship resume.

  • AT33

I do not care what people think but one thing is for sure, DWade is better then Lebron. DWade should always get the ball at the end of the game, make Bron a facilitator. DWade is the best baller on the planet right now.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Stop that bullish !!! ^^^^ Bron is playing the ball of his life , he aint gonna let the weak ish let him down. Can happen to anyone , it’s all about how you bounce back. Ball is a team game , start realising it or youl get lost in the hate. See you in Dallas.

  • Clownfish31

LOL @ AT33. People who start their comments with “I do not care what people think” should probably stop and think twice before posting something online. Or at the very least assume that there are people who probably don’t care what THEY are posting either.

  • Erock

They threw that game. Look at how the dominated, and played so well. They passed the ball, went on a 13-2 run…then what happened? Few minutes left and they STOP DRIVING to the basket? Why? Why all those random shots…what were they trying to prove? At 30s left they had three offensive rebounds, why did Haslem knock the ball back to the three point line and turn it over when all he had to do was go up strong and drop it in the basket. HE WAS RIGHT UNDER THE HOOP! It’s stupidity and lack of fundemantals. They are a team built around 2 great players, one decent one, and the other 2 on the court cant think for themselves. Pathetic really.

  • eric

AT33, Dwade did have the ball at the end of the game. And Dwade is not the best baller on the planet. What makes you think that? Is it his MVPs, or his scoring titles, or is it all those amazing runs in playoffs during the last 4 years?

Clownfish, what are you talking about? Dwade is the one who was celebrating his shot. How did Lebron encourage that? If anything Wade was too pleased with himself for finally having a big game, something he hasn’t had since the Boston series.

    Bosh is just garbage.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

Did I read that wrong, or did Spo refer to Bosh as “a good defender”?

  • T-Money

“The Wade of past would have sent a cold hard stare down the court and stepped on the gas pedal even harder.” Danielle Steel, is that you?

  • Clownfish31

Eric, I’m talking about Wade’s general demeanor this whole season … the dance after dunking on Perk … swinging his arms after an and-one dunk … raising his arms in celebration … smug smile after James uses his chest as a punching bag last night … I’m talking about how he handles himself on the court now. Of course if you take 1 action to counter my season-long observation then you’d think you had a legitimate argument. I’m not saying Wade isn’t allowed to do it. I’m just saying he was much easier to like before this season.

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

Poor Miami fans…Jews haven’t been this upset at a German since…well…

  • http://www.dimemag.com Royal

Tough Loss for the heat, let’s see how they bounce back…..

  • eric

Clownfish, relax man. Damn near everyone in league celebrates their big shots. Did you see Stevenson? And nothing wrong with Lebron or anyone on the team encouraging a teammate who’s been playing subpar. Miami lost the game because the Mavs whipped out a staggered pick and roll that caught the Heat off guard, not because of celebrating.

  • fruizm

    whatever….Miami in 6.

  • eric

Dallas in six…….if Miami can’t stop that staggered offense.

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

    Egirl is J-W? Yuck.

  • Clownfish31

Eric & Co.: Read my comments again. My statements were:

    1. Not meant to explain / criticize why the Heat lost.
    2. Imply that players aren’t allowed to celebrate big shots.

    My statements were meant to:
    1. Explain my observation that Wade’s conduct on the court has changed this year.
    2. Communicate that I find him less likable as a product of his new behavior.

For those of you who wish to argue points that I’m not even trying to make, I guess you can continue to do so. I just want to assure you that I am completely relaxed. I just think it’s a shame Wade’s changed.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

i hate how people’s opinion of player rankings change every game… Wade is not better than Bron, Lebron is the best player in the world right now. does that mean he will be the best every single night? no… but he will be the majority of the time. Dwade was better than Bron tonight but Bron was better since the start of chicago series so because of one game is Bron now better? Ludicrous

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

i messed that up… the last Bron was supposed to be Wade… and tonight was supposed to be last night…… my bad

  • bike

How about the NBA finals conspiracy theory anyone? That is, Miami purposely threw the game to make the series more interesting. LeBron missing an uncontested layup, LeBron and Wade attempting ridiculous contested threes, Dirk getting an uncontested layup despite Miami having a foul to give…
It’s impossible to believe that Miami did not lose that game on purpose considering the way Dallas came back. The finals are rigged.

  • cramzy

one game, relax folks. And for the Lebron is rubbing off on Wade talk, stop. Wade been doing this. Last year, he ran around the court staring at his hands when he was killing Boston. He dunked on Varejao and did a victory lap. He jumped on a table screaming this is my house against Chicago. We cant blame everything on Lebron. Its getting old……..That being said….This was Lebron’s fault! lmao. Why does he insist on dribbling the clock down to 5 and taking jumpers when Wade done dropped 36 and is on fire? But seriously, the whole squad was effin up down the stretch and got lazy on D.

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com/ airs

    eboy feeling salty.
its okay, pare. let it out.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

Poor poor Eboy, you need a shoulder pad?

  • lukas

question – what happens in a night with decent shooting for the mavs?

  • http://xxxx DP

  • Jeremy

The Finals looked rigged in 2006..

It’s just that Bron and Wade were feeling it from 3.. I don’t know what gave them the impression that they are excellent shooters, but hey.

Dallas had an incredible run in the 4th, and they play as a team, and seem to inspire each other.

When someone on Dallas messes up, they all give him advice and encouragement, when someone on Miami screws up, they get a cold stare from Bron and a disapproving nod. Miami’s chemistry between the Big 3 is questionable, let alone the rest of the team.

Spoelstra must be an alright dude.. but he has no offensive plays… just 2 juggernauts on offense. I would like to see Adelman or D’Antoni coach this team.. runnin and gunnin…

  • ripslam

Wade comes up with the weakest excuses. At least try.

  • cmg8807

Eboy is something worse than a bandwagoner. He’s a Jew!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    @DP Eboy is a die-hard Heat fan.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

Dallas is gonna be rocking for game 3. Really glad to see some inspired ball by both teams. I’m enjoying every second of it with the summer break and a possible lockout looming. In the mean-time the Barclays arena is coming along just fine. The core structure is damn near 2/3′s complete. Not like any of you care except for Gerard maybe.

  • JTaylor21

Slam needs to ban that b*tcha** omg8807. What the hell does being jewish have to do with anything? Don’t be mad because jews know how to make money while you’re in a trailer scheming for ways to f*ck your sister. F*cking clown.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Saying that Jews no how to make money is actually a problem homie.
    Positive stereotypes are still stereotypes.

  • JTaylor21

Aye, I rather be known as someone that knows how to make money than someone who doesn’t. Maybe making money is too strong a word, should have used successful.
Anyways, my fault. I wasn’t trying to stereotype anyone. I just hate when ibreds try to use someone’s race against them

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

While I’m Ital*an/Ir1sh…..it’s not surprising that I’d be mistaken for a group of the population that is generally successful and intelligent. Thank you.

  • giogolo

Lebron is the anti-hero. and everything a person learning baketball should not follow growing up.

  • giogolo

His demeanor on the court, to his teammates compared to wade tells a lot about him.And a lot about a race taking credit for thier feeling of superiority and sel-entitlement which they have not eraned or deserved but wanna act or talk like they deserve it though they have not done sh*t or proven anything that they deserve to be great. What a big bag of Air he should change his logo to a ballon. he personally ruined the work ethic of Sopelstra and WAde which I saw coming from a mile. Miami would be better off without him and just a solid bench built aruond wade. Like marion,Nene or any solid D Center or PG. They would have been fine with just Joel,Haslem and howard in there plus those guys I mentioned.

  • rws

WOW! The Heat Are Going Down! The Mavs Will Take The Series. As Someone Stated Earlier, Bosh and Good Defender Don’t Even Go Together! The Heat Are The Worst Example Of Good SportsManship And Respect For The NBA. They ShowBoat,They Strut, and They are Totally Obnoxious. AND They Will Self Destruct! Mark My Words! They Can NOt Play Together. Its Been A Struggle This Year And It Will Continue. The Coach Will Be The 1st To Coach And Riley Will Come Back. THEN Watch-Bosh Will Go and Then Where Will The Wonderful Heat(The FairyTale Team of The NBA)Go From There. Stay Tuned!

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

It was definitely complacency that lead to them losing focus. It’s a sign that they lack focus. Why are there so many heeb lovers on this site? Nothin good about being a potatoe eating greasy hair either, Eboy.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Since Jukai is a jew….it’s safe to say that’s not his writing and yet another embarrassment handed down by the SLAM commenting system. FIX THIS SH*T RYNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

You know Jukai is actually Jewish, right? It looks silly when you steal his name to make derogatory comments about Jews.

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

Hey Allen, u coming out the closet this year or next? I came out a few days ago and it feels good.

  • Telus Operator

Wow. It’s funny how the people who accuse others of racism use the most racial language and spend the most energy thinking about and using racial stereotypes. But its okay when you do it, because you’re not racist? Okaaay.

    and website…

@giogolo Hating Bron for his attitude is one thing, but I have to disagree that just adding solid role players for Wade would’ve made them just as good. Without Bron, I don’t think they’d be in the Finals. And while I’d hate having to log in for Slam, cosign Wayno. Don’t feed em, they’ll find something else to do.

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

    I agree with Telus Operator.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Comment section is totally useless when there is someone on here like this “jukai” imposter. This is f’n ridiculous Slam

Like i said. Lost in the hate. Looks like not only the Heat is having a mental breakdown. :-)

316 all day miami in 6…!

    @article title: Ya Think?

  • http://slamonline.com everything

it was all about the odds. Dallas was +4.5 in game 2. Miami wanted to win but they wanted a cover too. They tried to trim the lead to 4 or less. it backfired.

  • ceddy

    heat in five

  • Jose

God, As soon as Dallas gets a Win everyone switches to The Big D to win it all, Tuesday night eveyone was talkin 5 game series w/ MIA winning it(that be awesome, haha) Miami has proven it can win on the road, so this series split just makes this series more interesting

bringing in a guys heritage is low irrelevant and bordering on racism. but i understand youre just trolling but still, please lay off the culture insults. and i agree w/ you eboy lebron and boshs defense could be better but the play i was most disappointed in was during the possession after dirks 2, lebron decided on passing to wade even though chalmers had a pretty decent look

  • http://airtsinelas21.blogspot.com Roy

@ Eboy: I don’t mind you criticizing Coach Spo’s way with his team or whatever — though I’ve always respected your insights here — but I certainly don’t appreciate expressing your displeasure on him just because he’s Filipino. It’s like you’re saying we Filipinos are simpletons. That’s just not right….

  • Dagger

Wow, these comments are toxic. Thought Slam was better than Dime; evidently not.

  • giogolo

    Roy its saturday already…= )

  • horsey

People understand that this is supposed to be a conversation about basketball, right? That knowledge is as basic as understanding that misspelling words in an insult kind of defy the whole point of acting like you’re better than someone…Heat in 7.

  • truballer

miami in 6…!! when 316 is on its over…

  • muhammad

it was really one of the ugliest losses i ever watched 88-73 man i’ll never forget that all they wanted to do is attack the basket for couple of times only and then run the clock those offensive boards where a gift they should have tried to attack no got for a three hopefully they learned from what happened and they’ll win one in dallas, the only thing is that now dallas is confident that they can bounce back from any lead that’s a problem..Heat in 7

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

All I heard this week was how LeBron was so clutch, then in game 2, in the last 2 minutes, he goes 0-4. I’d say Scottie Pippen feels really smart right now. They pulled a choke job, no excuses needed. Dallas did’nt give up, even when the Heatles were already doing their victory dance, they knew the game wasn’t out of reach, and they showed everybody that the Heat are beatable. Now Dallas has all the momentum, and have the next 3 games at home. Could Miami go home in 5? That would make my whole summer, since my Celtics fizzled out. Go get em Dirk.

  • Paul

cant wait to tomorrow? What the hell is the world comin to people still believe in miami heat ?

Found a few tickets for the NBA finals still available here http://goo.gl/DLWwm
