Prospect Tears Down Rim at Sixers Workout

When you’re competing for a spot on an NBA roster, you’ve gotta down whatever you can to stand out. And if that means ripping down the facility’s rim, as prospect Paris Horne recently did, so be it. Via Philly.com: “Toward the end of Sunday’s predraft workout, Paris Horne went up to dunk the ball and came down with the rim. Horne was one of four prospects working out for the 76ers at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. ’I went up and dunked, and the next time I looked it was on the floor,’ Horne said of the rim. ‘They were pretty excited, surprised. We just walked down to the other end and kept working out.’ Horne said that ‘hopefully’ taking down the rim would stick in the team’s mind. Horne, a guard, was joined in the workout by guard DeAndre Liggins (Kentucky) and big men Josh Harrellson (Kentucky) and Lavoy Allen (Temple). Sunday’s workout was Allen’s second with the Sixers. None of the prospects are expected to be drafted during Thursday’s 2011 NBA draft, although one or two could sneak into the second round. The Sixers hold the No. 16 and No. 50 picks in the draft.”

Well, does the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine have reinforced rims the way NBA arena rims do?
I doubt it. Otherwise we’d see a lot more of this stuff in actual games.

*if this was the same type of rim as is used by the NBA

Why were the workouts held at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine instead of the Sixers practice facility?

Looks like someone wants a job in the league . . . funny what (i) competition and (ii)an audience does to a player’s adrenaline level.

Why is everyone acting like this is a big deal? I tear down rims all the time. Nerf rims.

Aren’t most rims some form of breakaway rim nowadays? Most definitely not NBA standard, but even the ones you buy at Dicks Sporting Goods have spring loaded rims. Unless this college hasn’t updated their gym is the last 40 years.

we got the no. 50 pick, maybe they can take a closer look at him. that takes power no matter what kinda rim it is.
