Report: Kings Trade Omri Casspi, First Round Pick for Cavs’ JJ Hickson

We’ve got few details beyond this tweet, but it looks like the Kings are adding to their frontcourt, while the Cavs are providing Kyrie Irving with some assistance on the wing. Via Marc Spears:

Good moves for the Sac Town, They already had Tyreke, jimmer, Marcus Thorton, and others in the backcourt. JJ is a good defender so says this link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqG1b5xVC3w

I like the trade. Here’s a few thoughts.
    1. I’ve seen JJ’s ceiling. He won’t even be an all star in this league. I’m pretty much sold on him. I mean, we’re the Cavs! C’mon, he has the world to show up on this team and the best he could do is 13 and 8, a lot of turnovers with those ever wet hands and make a few dumb decisions. Great. But I wish him the best in Sacto.
    2. I’ve always liked Casspi. He would fit great in Scott’s offense imo. He’s gonna be solid I believe. Not a star but can be more valuable in the long run. Can shoot, can run, and a whole lot of ball IQ compared to JJ.
    3. I’ll grade this as a B. I’ve been lobbying to trade JJ since. I thought we could’ve gotten more or at least make the pick unprotected (damn..) but at least were getting a player that could be more useful in the future in exchange.

    Just to be clear.
The Amare-Hickson trade falldown was not Chris Grant’s fault. He wasn’t the GM back then. Ferry is. And to most reports it was the Suns who backed out on the trade. Sure there were second thoughts on the Cavs part to trade Hickson at that time, but it was Phoenix who didn’t let Amare go. Steve Kerr isn’t stupid like that.

I like this trade mainly because JJ doesn’t need the ball i his hands or plays run for him to be effective. That will be important with reke, cousins and jimmer on the court. WTF do we do with thorton? Keep him and see if we can mannage possesions like the griz or trade for a gritty defender off ball player?

I like this trade for both sides; and for Omri, should be able to land the starting spot and have a bigger part of the offence. If they choose to go SF with their 2012 pick then he remains a great bench player who brings a spark with his hustle.

Cavaliers are f@*king up left and right. Why would you take a PG when you just traded for one? Why not take Williams first overall and B. Knight with the 4th? Williams is ready to dominate at the 3 right now. They just got less athletic and less fun to watch.

The thing about Cousins is, even though he’s not there just yet, he has a higher ceiling than almost any center in the NBA right now. This has probably already been said.

Also, I wonder if the Kings are going to start Jimmer right away over Marcus Thornton. I think they will, even though Marcus Thornton is the best damn scorer they have on that team, and deserves to start somewhere else. Maybe they’ll deal him to a team that needs him (even though the Kings kind of need him still…). A logjam of guards does nothing for your team, case in point: The Pistons.

I think the Starting 5 for the Kings will be ‘Reke, and Thornton. Salmons and JJ at the Forward spots, and Cousins at the 5. Jimmer (Mark Price 2K11?) will be 8th or 9th man, behind Donte Greene, JT, and ‘Cisco. Honeycutt will sit for a month or two, then go to the NBDL for a while, but could be a star some day. Isiah Thomas (Ronnie Price 2K11?) will do just fine, but in very limited minutes, behind Pooh Jeter.
For Jimmer to start, at least before the All Star Break, he’d need a couple of injuries further up the rotation.
Of course, that is, if we have a season…..

as a kings fan i am excited over this trade , glad the cav’s are happy with casspi , dum deal for cavs a protected pick at best 2017 second round guarenteed , Casspi is much worse a player than J.J Hickson with alot of upside. casspi is a poor defender , ok rebouder , stuggles at the FT line , shoots the 3 fairly well but inconistently and he struggled to get playing time because he did not perform well and complained about it. overall he is a great guy , and i wish him well but J.J hickson has alot of upside and i think Sacramento got the better deal. not complaining at all. I love it. Welcome J.J Hickson! time to bring out the cowbells , he is going to love it in Sacramento. GO KINGS!

i dont think Isaiah Thomas will be playing behind Pooh jeter. i think its going to be the other way around.

Al thornton was kicking *ss for the kings at the end of last season with tyreke hurt. He should not be traded and should be the leader of the bench squad. That would be instant offense right there.
