Michael Jordan’s Love Letter from High School

Although we all tend to think of the NBA as a fantasy land inhabited by fantasy players, when taken off the court, professional athletes are just like the rest of us: human. And who better to serve as an example of this than the GOAT, Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Below is high school love note MJ wrote in 1980 to a female classmate of his, Laquette. Below the actual note is a full transcription, both courtesy of Yahoo. Love (or in the case of most high school crushes, infatuation) is a powerful drug. Just ask Mike.

Michael Jordan

My Dearest Laquette

How are you and your family doing, fine I hope. I am in my Adv. Chemistry class writing you a letter, so that tell you how much I care for you. I decide to write you because I felt that I made you look pretty rotten after the last night. I want to tell you that I am sorry, and hope that you except my apologie. I know that you feelings was hurt whenever I loss my necklace or had it stolen.

I was really happy when you gave me my honest coin money that I won off the bet. I want to thank you for letting me hold your annual. I show it to everyone at school. Everyone think you are a very pretty young lady and I had to agree because it is very true. Please don’t let this go to your head. (smile) I sorry to say that I can’t go to the game on my birthday because my father is taking the whole basketball team out to eat on my birthday. Please don’t be mad because I am trying get down there a week from Feb. 14. If I do get the chance to come please have some activity for us to do together.

I want you to know that my feeling for you has not change yet. ← (joke) I am finally getting use to going with a girl much smaller than I. I hope you my hint. Well I have spent my time very wisely by write to you. I hope you write back soon. Well I must go, the period is almost over. See you next time around, which I hope comes soon.

With my Best Love

Michael J. Jordan

  • O

Man, I wrote SO many love letters to SO many shorties in high school hoping to get booty from just one if any. A few worked too… but them shorties were CHOPPED looking! And I don’t mean “chop stick.” Them m*thaf*ckas was PORK CHOPPED! My crew still clown me when they see ‘em around the hood. So I can’t laugh or even grin at this letter…

    co-sign 9steele9, even though everyone’s going to.

  • @Deknowz

Game on and off the court.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

I thought Mike only loved the man in the mirror.

Co-sign 9steele9. Sidenote: What a time it was back then when there were no corny teenage-invented acronyms being used like LOL or RMFLAO. Simple, better times.

And co-sign O. I wrote my share of luv letters back n the day as well. And I would hate 4 them 2 be posted 4 the world 2 c. So i’m not gonna type here and mock MJ either. He did something that the majority of teens can relate 2.

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

I don’t think we should be reading this, but ah well, it’s MJ.

  • Allenp

    Sometimes being famous sucks

  • Papou

    Ackward read.

  • Remo Williams

if there’s a lockout I can see us reading new like “Wade wakes up and eats toast with no butter on it” or “Andrew Bynum spotted washing his car by hand”

  • PAul

    i can read it

  • Mr. Wet

This is not the crap SLAM should be posting.

  • JD

where did you guys get this from or where did the original people who posted it on their site get it from anyways?

  • Hambone

I can’t believe he wasn’t talking about himself in the 3rd person

  • RichardDawkins

One whom reads this may come to the conclusion that Michael Jordan is an idiot. I certainly hope he did not write this during English class.

  • Harlem_World

This is wrong. Why would you put this out there like that? effed up Slam, seriously, effed up. Basketball related, cool, its what he signed up for – but going in like this on the mans personal life? Not feeling this AT ALL. If this is what this site has come down to maybe it’s time for this long time Slamhead to leave…

  • robb

@Hambone was written by MJ, not LBJ.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

Is he the greatest love letter writer off all time?

  • Conoro

Should have been taking a Basic English course instead of Advanced Chemistry, but who has made $500+ million, me or him? HaHaHa

They must have just gave Michael Jordan a degree.
Does not surprise me at ALL that Jordan couldn’t write.
To this day he is among the most overrated people in basketball when it comes to intellect.
    Magic, too.

  • Penny

Why did he just texted her. Lol

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

oh, Philosopher. come on, you’re usually so smart…

but poor guy gets even his young love life put on blast

    Mm is white

  • Yesse

I don’t really see what the big deal is. I think people should respect other peoples privacy.

  • jumpman

    He got laid.

  • James AKA…

It seems like being a celebrity is like being infamous in high school. People know your business, and you have no idea who they are, and its very difficult to just not tell every single individual to piss off. I remember Goldie Hawn saying something about this when people were bugging her around her cottage 15 years ago (its about 2 hours north of toronto so it was in the local paper), and its something i always keep in mind when i see a celebrity in the flesh: If they weren’t known, I wouldn’t bug them, so I shouldn’t just because they are. Similarly, something like this ought to be returned to the author or the recipient without any fanfare, no matter how trivial

  • horsey

Her name was “Laquette,” how hot could she be? Mike dodged a bullet with that one.

  • Zabba

I think that’s cool. Poor penmanship, poor grammar, high school crush…shows the human side of MJ.

  • .

He misspelled her name aswell, her name is Laquetta not Laquette. She didn`t put the letter out there,it was stolen from her and auctioned off.

  • Riggs

if that’s poor penmanship then mine is terrible.

  • marc

Why is this on SLAM? just asking

Jordan was in desperate need of a proof reader. However, I enjoyed reading the letter. It rekindled old memories of being young and in love.

  • http://slamonline.com Teresa

This letter is old so is this this OLD lady trying to get some money from Michael J. this old lady needs to move on she just reget not marrying him and know she is just hating.

  • Precious

First of all why did she hold on to these letters anyway. Second why are she showing them to her family members and third if she wanted to keep them as a keepsake why were they not in a storage where no one would find them. Knowing that MJ is now married and have a life of his own why is she holding on to the past? I cant judge because only God knows what actually happen but it sounds a little shady to me. Now if she really want to know who put the letters out there and auctioned them off the police can get this information because I am sure they company that bought the letters had to get a name and etc.
