Mickael Pietrus Also Taking His Talents to Turkey?

According to Pietrus’ agent, the Phoenix Suns’ forward has been offered a contract by a Turkish team, and he’s also drawing interest in Spain. From PBN: “Phoenix’s Mickael Pietrus, a native of Guadaloupe, is the latest NBA player to receive a contract offer from abroad. An undisclosed team in Turkey has made an offer for the NBA swingman during this uncertain lockout period according to Pietrus’ agent, Bill McCandless. Actively looking for work for his client, McCandless added that he also has three teams in Spain inquiring about Pietrus’ services. ‘Contract in Turkey is firm,’ McCandless told PBN. ‘He hasn’t signed yet and I have to talk with Mike about it.’ The reported deal does have an opt-out clause in case the NBA season resumes play at a reasonable time-frame. Pieturs picked up his $5.3 million option prior to July 1 and is expected to be part of the Suns when the lockout lifts.”

Man, is Turkey really crazy about basketball or something? I had no idea that country had so many basketball related jobs.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Relatively. Not as crazy as some of it’s northern neighbours, but bball would be the #2 sport from what I’ve seen there. (Correct me if I’m wrong any Turks reading this.) Istanbul has the population (18mil) to support multiple pro teams and a fair amount of investment goes in there from both West (Europe) and East (Arabia), so the haves have plenty of cash to throw around.

    @ Allenp
since the european championship games in 2001 and especially the worlds in 2010 took place in turkey, my home country is crazy about basketball which is actually the nr. 2 sport.
the euroleague and the german basketball league are sponsored by turkish brands, BEKO and turkish airlines which also sponsores Kobe.
The team presidents of teams like Besiktas or Ülker Fenerbahce have a lot money which they are willing to spent carelessly in NBA Players.
