Polladaday: Perimeter D?

There’s little doubt that Dwight Howard is the best defender in the paint, but who mans up on the outside the best?

Who's the best perimeter defender in the NBA?

Lebron? Oh please! Come on now.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Come on fanboys, LeBron isn’t invincible. My vote goes to Tony Allen but whatever, let everyone think LeBron is a great defender so that in 20 years, the same bandwagon Heat fans can argue that LeBron is better than Jordan. We know the truth.

  • answerbulls

    No love for Tony Allen?

  • Funkdoc

Indeed, Tony Allen is my man. I don’t even know why anyone is rooting for Ron Ron. Okay, he still has the potential to be the best, but he’s getting older and less motivated. Tony Allen is the new, young, crazy Ron Artest. Let’s enjoy Tony before he destroyes himself.

  • Rob Cooper

    Thabo Sefolosha anyone?

Get LeBron and Wade off that list.

Anthony carter from the knicks is a good defender. NOT the best tho

  • Overtime

I would never vote for Wade or Lebron. Tony Allen gets the vote.
Battier is underated too, but only a year or two ago, he’s started slowing abit now.
Also, I’m just gunna say J-Kidd. After the playoffs I’d actually consider him

  • Overtime

And I would argue about Dwight aswell

  • Sean

    Luol Deng deserves a mention

Did any of you watch Bron in the playoffs? He was a beast on D.

  • apache

    tony allen

  • Ryan

Lebron has the tools to be a great defender… Size athleticism… but without positioning, knowledge and heart, your just an athlete. hes lazy unless he wants a chase down block or a steal, just everyday grind it out defense that wont make the highlight real he doesnt seem to care for….the JET three pointer in game 5 when the game was on the line comes to mind…Dirk was on his left with haslem all he had to do was get up on the shot and force him to help instead, he camped out and waited inside the 3 point line…Its not like JET has a knack for hitting big shots from range? (sarcasm)….pure slack…no heart…

Im not a kobe lover ( i voted battier) but seriously has anyone ever seen lebron do this

  • Kadavour

LeBron and Dwayne are EXCELLENT off-ball defenders, but they don’t have the discipline for on-ball defense. it is an UTTER TRAVESTY that THABO SEFOLOSHA isn’t on this list. WTF is wrong with yall?! C’mon Slam. new list:
Shane Battier (best use of court geometry and positioning)
    Thabo Sefolosha (great all around)
    Tony Allen (great all around)
Ron Artest (best hands on Defense)

  • http://www.Slamonline.com Slick Ric

uh it aint none of them, its tony allen!

  • http://www.Slamonline.com Slick Ric

goofies picking lebron, like somebody said, lebron and wade are tremendous playmakers on the defensive but they are not great on-ball defenders, good but not great. they make the spectacular plays though. i.e blocking shot, stealing passes, perfect rotations(sometimes).

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Tony Allen, Thabo Sefolosha, Loul Deng > all them cats on this poll on D.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Ryan I loved that vid. Try telling me Kobe wasn’t one of the best defenders in the L. He’s doing against what some(idiots) say is the better 2 guard. LeBron hasn’t done lock down D like that ever. Dwayne either. Kobe in his Prime was a force on both ends. More so than LeBron or D-Wade ever were.

Kadavour, good points all around. Luol, TA, and Thabo should be on here over Kobe and LeBron and DWade..

  • SikhWitIt

The question asks about PERIMETER defender, have you guys watched Shane Battier defend the three point line? This shouldn’t even be close.

  • chingy

I respect Kobe, but he should NOT be on this list. Love CP3, but he gambles a bit too much. If we’re talking lockdown D (not just steals for stats/highlights), it’s not even close. Should be Battier hands down (maybe TA gets a few votes…but he can be too ‘jumpy’)

  • Dennard

Kobe, Lebron and CP3 should not be on that list. TA, Sefolosa & Rondo should replace those cats and it’s between Tony Allen & Battier as the the top cats for perimeter D.

  • LA Huey

A lot of you overhate in an attempt to prop up some underrated defenders. If you’re saying the guy who shut down Derrick Rose in the 4th qtrs of the ECF isn’t an elite defender, it’s hard to take you seriously.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Shane Battier and Tony Allen for me. Once upon a time Artest was the best.

  • Groves

Iguodala, Sefolosha, Tony Allen, Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, Ron Artest

  • http://Slamonline.com JKG

Tony allen, Sefolosha, and Iguodala need to be on that list, but y’all sleepin on Dwade as a defender. He stepped it up defensively especially in the playoffs

  • tavoris

Andre Iguodala. And it’s not even close.

  • Brahsef

I voted for Bron, just cause I hate choosing other. If AI or Tony Allen was on the list I’d pick them. Bron’s the best defender on that list though. I’d say Battier is close but Bron can pull off some truly amazing defensive plays.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@tavoris…I’m inclined to second that my dude. Iggy, Sef, even Jason Kidd deserves a mention for the job he was able to do on much bigger guys on-ball this post-season.

  • PlanetAsia14

LeBron being a better defender over Battier? I don’t know about that one… And I agree, Thabo an Tony deserve some love, they were beasts on the defensive end in the playoffs… And don’t forget Marion…

  • youngmuggsy

This poll is completely pointless unless everyone voting watches every player in the league on a consistent basis.

  • GoGoGomy

Kobe is the best perimeter defender on the list. This is for perimeter defense people! If you voted for Lebron you don’t know anything about basketball! Lebron is a great shot blocker but he’s not on Kobe’s level when it comes to perimeter defense. Shane and Ron deserve to be there.

  • Celtics23

    Uh, Matt Barnes?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Take Kobe, Wade, CP, and Artest off that list and add Iggy, Deng, Jru Holliday, and TAllen.

  • robb

Kobe is an excellent perimeter defender, but dumb people who enjoy talking s*** about him will say he’s not good. Whatever. And yes Tony Allen should be there too.

  • donuts

    extremely stupid list.
