Report: Sonny Weems Heading to Europe

Weems seems to prefer the job security of a deal overseas, and is reportedly on the verge of signing a one-year contract in Europe, according to Hoops World: “Sonny Weems has decided to take advantage of his overseas eligibility and is on the verge of signing a one-year contract with a team in Europe, according sources close to the situation. The Toronto Raptors extended a qualifying offer to Weems last Monday, which would have made him a restricted free agent. However, Weems felt that signing overseas was the best option for him so that he could continue playing and developing his game during this work stoppage. Weems’ deal will not have an NBA-out, which means he’ll remain overseas even if a new collective bargaining agreement is ratified.”

I don’t think there will be any NBA games played next season. Expect to see more non millionaire players taking their talents overseas for one year.

The whole Toronto team can go play in Europe..

  • Jeremy

He always struck me as one of those players not to have money saved up. Good luck to you sir.

  • Pistonsfan

    Co sign Max, haha.

    ^
Especially with their excelent drafting the last couple of years..

  • MUBWAR

well a 9th pick with Davis and a 13th pick with Derozen isn’t bad at all my friend. And about that 5th pick with that no name Euro. What can I say, we’ll have to wait and see.

  • http://realgm.com Ghost

Uhhh Max…what? lol DeRozan and Davis were steals at their spots.

  • Gomez

    *9th pick=derozan, 13th pick davis

  • Yesse

I agree with Max all the way.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

    Forgot about Bargs with 1?

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

I do agree on that Derozan was a good pick.

  • buschfire

Max, yes Bargs was a crap deal, at least he can produce points… hopefully Dwane Casey can help him with his boards, effort and defense….but anyways that was 5 years ago. The last 3 drafts have been good to Toronto with DeRozan & Ed Davis, and with a young core in James Johnson, Amir Davis, Jared Bayless, and with some older Vets like Leandro Barbosa and Linas Kleiza, I see a good future for Toronto. especially with this new center Jonas Valenciunas, he could be the steal of the draft….but juries still out on him.

  • BRAVO

Barns is the best scoring center in the NBA ! He can’t defend well same with rebounding but but Dwight, Brooke Lopez , or any great center in this league I know for a fact barns will lite them up till they decide to put a sf to guard him ! Punks !

  • Marco

co-sign BRAVO. I’m pissed off like everyone else at his lack of effort and weakside help on defense, but he is an offensive juggernaut and doesn’t deserve all the heat that he is receiving

Max, let’s take a look at the 2006 NBA draft…
    1. Bargnani
    2. Alrdridge – Same position as Chris Bosh at the time
    3. Morrison – Huge Bust
    4. Tyrus Thomas – Bust
    5. Shelden Williams – Bust
    6. Roy – Knee (teams knew about his problems before)
    7. Randy Foye – Serviceable player
    8. Gay – Borderline Allstar
    9. Patrick O’Bryant – Huge Bust
    10. Mouhamed Sene – WHO?
The only other player where there is a case to be made in selecting ahead of Bargnani is Rudy Gay. Therefore, implying that the Raptors have been awful with their draft picks and then highlighting the 2006 draft as the backbone of your argument is a pretty inaccurate implication.

  • http://realgm.com Ghost

Almost forgot, Gay is the only other player where there is a case to be made in the Top 10. Rajon Rondo, Paul Millsap were later picks.

  • Yep

+ millsap really didnt make much of himself til just last season… n even then he cant touch bargs on off. rondo is another story…

  • G

lol its funny how the bargnani+5th pick for gay trade rumor was being tossed around

  • MUBWAR

i didn’t know those were the top 10 picks of 2006. I’m sure the draft of 2011 will be much better. I’m still unhappy of the raps letting Kemba slip. He’ll be a great point guard in this league. Let’s watch what MJ does with him. Hope that no name 5th pick changes my mind about euro players(whenever he comes that is)

  • BRAVO

Barns is a good offensive player, Dwayne Casey will def push him to play a lot more D ! But for all the haters who still thinks he’s a bad player well Let me tell you. When we played the Miami heat on our home court. NOBODY could guard him. Not CHRIS BOSH, D.WADE or LBJ, we lost that game but that way barns was playing was all about revenge the dude dropped 42 points just to show Chris Bosh he can’t guard him @ all. When barns gets better ppl will c how much damage this dude could do when He is in the zone !

  • BRAVO

Plus when we faced the Knicks he lit up amare for another 42 points but we lost lmao :(

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

And how did all the player they drafted work out?
Best players of the franchise VC and BO$H and maybe Damon Stoudemire
    That’s some good drafting.

  • BRAVO

Yup it is boi cuz vc was the man in toronto he changed e game when he was in his prime. U r lucky boiiii

  • BRAVO
