Rick Adelman to Interview With the TWolves

by Sam Riches/ @sam_riches

Speculation that Rick Adelman is interested in becoming the next head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves has mostly been met with skepticism. Few believe that the accomplished veteran coach would consider an offer from the team that posted the League’s worst record last season, has a core of still developing and maturing players and is run by GM David Kahn. But according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Adleman is indeed taking the offer serioulsy and is scheduled to interview for the position on Saturday:

“According to league sources, former Houston coach Rick Adelman will be the fourth candidate to interview with the Wolves when he comes to town tomorrow to see David Kahn and owner Glen Taylor.

Adelman all along has looked like the dream hire who’d solve a lot of the Wolves’ problems, if he’s interested.

Well, it looks like he is now, at least enough to listen.

He has known Kevin Love for years and his hiring would be a BIG step toward convincing Love to sign a long-term contract extension.

Love and Adelman’s son played on the same Lake Oswego, Ore., high school team and Adelman saw nearly every game Love played during his senior season when he was in between jobs with the Kings and Rockets.”

With the majority of head coaching posts now filled and Adelman expressing a desire to return to the sidelines, the possibility exists that the Timberwolves could soon be welcoming the eighth winningest coach in NBA history. The other candidates reportedly being considered include Mike Woodson, Don Nelson, Bernie Bickerstaff and Terry Porter.

If Adelman is hired, the Wolves could be a legit playoff team next season…

This is a good look. Kind of wished the Raptors went for Adelman but Casey will have to do.

This is too intriguing to not happen.

Adelman will be the next Twolves coach. This hire could save David Kahn’s job. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Beasley shipped off.

Why other coaches have gotten gigs ahead of adelman? and why of all teams it would be the wolves..?

  • chingy

What Adelman did with the Rockets when they had a bunch of role players was magic. If T-Wolves get their man, they’re on the right path with KLove, Williams, and Rubio (maybe).

Adelman will need many safeguards in working with Kahn. If he takes the job be will be head coach and de facto GM. BTW Kahn is POBO.

As much as I dislike the old boys network of hiring, Adelman is solid. Solid coach that will take full advantage of that roster’s talent.

One thing Adelman has that can set him apart is that he is a players coach and will let the players play. He has elements of Rambis’ offence (using the old Princeton offence) yet is smart to break a play if there is a matchup advantage (unlike Rambis. Even in the last 5 mins Kobe got the ball wherever he wanted in the last 5 mins and maybe Rambis should have done that so he can save his job)

I still don’t understand why we let Adelman go.

hushabomb – um, who exactly on the Wolves would get the ball in the last 5 minutes? Jefferson, Beasley, Love? Brewew? They don’t have a closer, closest thing is Beasley

Adelman, Love, Rubio, Williams, Johnson, Jefferson… could be an interesting team. People who keep talking about Beasley: if there’s a season, he’ll be gone.

    ah christ, I’m an idiot.

Hursty..jefferson didn’t play for the wolves at all last season, and brewer was traded to Dallas. Let’s try and keep up with our NBA facts.

Yeah, not sure what Houston was thinking letting Adelman go… And not sure what other teams have been thinking NOT chasing Adelman from the get-go.

  • JamesBond

I hope this goes through. If it does the wolves will be relevant again like in the KG days. Almost…

    Twolves are beyond repair…

T-Wolves are fine. A bit of a log jam at the forward spot, but a lot of young talent. Beasley could be shipped off. They should try and pry Gortat from the Suns, he would be perfect next to Love and give them a little bit of defensive presence.
Adelman would be great for this team.

The Suns would be mad if they traded away Gortat.
