University of Miami to Wear LeBron James-Branded Nike Gear

According to the Sun-Sentinel and its sources, the University of Miami will become the latest school to rock LBJ/Nike-branded stuff on the court (joining Ohio State and Kentucky): “UM players were told the news by Coach Jim Larranaga on Thursday … [LeBron] James, who has been active in promoting his brand, follows in the footsteps of Michael Jordan, whose Jordan Brand is the official equipment supplier of his alma mater, North Carolina. James has no direct ties to any of the three schools he’ll be sponsoring, but the Akron, Ohio native is known as an Ohio State fan. And he built a relationship with UM when he and some Heat teammates played pick-up games with Hurricanes players on campus last summer. Larranaga also is familiar with James’ representative, Maverick Carter. Soon after Larranaga left George Mason this spring to become UM’s coach, he tweeted about a meeting he had with Carter and former GMU player Darren Tarver, with whom Carter is friends. James’ sponsorship and support of the Hurricanes should generate interest in a program that has continually lacked fan support.”

@AD Nike is basically playing every card they used for Jordan on Lebron right now…and you see the Jordan Brand is falling further and further away from their priorities (80-90% of Jordan sneaker sales are retros…nobodies buying the new stuff)….don’t know as a college kid I’d too much care to wear the Lebron logo (wait a second what is the Lebron logo nowadays if not the L23?) over Jordan or Nike.

    Black RK: you’re babbling.

I really don’t understand people buying Lebron stuff. Almost every design is awful.

  • Jer dawg

Jordan retros look good and people buy. The new stuff are remixed and looking mostly like a hot mess. Most misses IMO. If they implemented some newer tech with better zoom air pockets and stop using the regular air pockets (air max is good) and people will start buying. Lebrons can’t be worn by every player. It’s tough for fast pg to use the full length air max. The 9 is ugly, most soldiers are weak, but I think Lebrons line isn’t bad looking.

^I think the majority of high-end basketball shoes are worn off-court.

I see more guys wearing the kobe kicks and d. rose kicks than the lebrons. I also guess AD didn’t happen to watch the finals with his comment.

Marketing wise lebron is one of the greatest athletes of all time. Although he should embrace the villain role more. When people criticize him, he should not only refuse to apologize, he should get rude about it. Embrace it dude! You could be the best villain in sports history! You got true fans who don’t hate because everyone else is

LeBron is not built to withstand the hatred and criticism he’s receiving…he just wants everyone to like him and buy his gear…LeBron is not a pitbull, he’s a golden retriever.

I’m wondering whether or not the Kentucky deal is due to LeBron’s relationship with World Wide Wes and Coach Cal.

  • hushabomb

Will UMiami choke in March Madness when they wear LBJ…… Maybe they need to wear Wades gear instead……

Well, it might as well be LeBron if not Jordan cus everybody else’s shoes are hideous. Kobe’s shoes are always ugly, literally always, all the way back to the adidas days. Rose’s a are also atrocious.
