Jordan Farmar To Sign with Maccabi Tel-Aviv

by Sam Riches/ @sam_riches

The list of ballers who have decided to practice their craft abroad has its latest addition. According to Yahoo! Sports, Farmar will sign a one-year contract with Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The contract will include an option to allow Farmar to return to the NBA when the lockout is settled.

The news comes as no surprise as rumors have run rampant that the New Jersey Net is interested in signing with a team in Israel. The SoCal native is Jewish, his stepfather is Israeli, and Farmar has been open about his intentions to sign overseas.

Speculation surfaced that Farmar would not be considered a foreign import player—teams in Israel are allowed to dress four import players per game—but unless he obtains Israeli citizenship he will count towards the team’s limit.

Farmar’s back-court teammate, Deron Williams, made headlines last month as one of the first to sign overseas when he agreed to terms with Beşiktaş Cola Turka of the Turkish Basketball League.
