Judge Won’t Let Delonte West Play Overseas During Lockout

Delonte West’s legal troubles are preventing him from taking his talents abroad during the NBA lockout. Per his Twitter page (via WEEI): “Celtics unrestricted free agent guard Delonte West tweeted [Thursday], ‘Can’t even go get that overseas money. Judge said it’s a no go on leaving the country.’ In mid-July 2010, West was sentenced to eight months of home detention as a result of the weapons charges that cost him the first 10 games of this past season. While the home detention ended in March, West still faces two years of unsupervised probation. Based on his Twitter comments, West will not be allowed to seek a deal outside of the country during the lockout.”

    i really thought that fake internet rumour would have been put to bed when bron and d-west hugged and talked after the last game of the mia-bos series. guess not.

    Not sure if he’d be a good fit overseas anyway.

    Consequence of his own actions. Can’t say I feel for the guy.

    @T-Money, too many people lack any wit to not go back to the same well over and over again.

    They stopping my man “Desparado Red” from getting that overseas money.

    He put himself in the situation, and has to live with the consequences. I hope he saved some money to get by for a while. @T-Money: was anything confirmed that the internet rumours were fake? I’ve never heard Gloria, D-West or LBJ speak on the matter or say it wasn’t true. A hug after the game doesn’t confirm or deny anything. I don’t know if the rumour was true or not, but silence on such a well publicized and ‘intimate’ matter tends to make me believe it true.

    he needs to rehab anyway, to make sure those injuries healed 100%.

    He should ask Busta Rhymes how to get that Arab Money.

  • Allenp Posted: Aug.12 at 2:17 pm
    LeBron and Delonte denied it. If you don’t know that, then maybe you just want it to be true.

    @biged – he’s probably not allowed to leave the U.S. Whether it’s Europe, China or Canada. Most countries probably wouldn’t be too keen on allowing someone into their country with a documented history of mental problems and weapons charges.

  • T Posted: Aug.13 at 3:57 pm
    Not making light of mental illnesses, but I probably wouldn’t let his crazy ass leave the country either.

  • Nick Posted: Aug.13 at 4:03 pm
    @Biged
    “Judge said it’s a no go on leaving the country”
    Should answer the question.

    He could come and play in the Puerto Rico League (BSN) in the spring, taking into consideration that Puerto Rico is a US territory and technically he would not be leaving the US. The money’s not as good as in Europe or China, much less than the NBA, but it beats working at a furniture store or Sam’s and he would be playing basketball in the third or fourth best basketball league in all of the Americas (NBA, LNB-Argentina, BSN-Puerto Rico, NBB-Brazil, NBDL, in that order). Import players make about $5K per week plus a paid apartment and a rented car and the season runs from March to mid-June.
