Lawrence Frank: Detroit Pistons Will Be a ‘Defense-First’ Team

Lawrence Frank fed Detroit Pistons fans and media the usual coach-speak crap at his introductory press conference, and placed a special emphasis on defense for his new squad. From the Free Press: “On his coaching philosophy: ‘We’re going to be a defense-first team, a rebounding team, an attacking team, a low-turnover, high-assist team. … You have to compete at both ends, but we’ll be defense-first. … It’s a collective effort, mind-set and trust through good and bad.’ On his relationship with his new players and vice versa: ‘It has to be a clean slate. Your scrapbooks are irrelevant.’”

Talk is cheap…hopefully he can follow through.

I like where his head is. Yes we do have Monroe, Maxiell, and a couple other big men that aren’t so good at rebounding, but they are good at defense. Pistons will be a 30-win team if they get the lineup rotation right.

Lol their max win total is 30?

Detroit basketball doesn’t mean s*** without defense.

35 wins max if they don’t change anything on thier roster…They also need to define the players roles. RIP, Ben Gordon, and Charlie V never had clearly defined roles and it clearly affected them. They’re not superstars, but they’re capable players.

every coach wants to 1) run and 2) be defense-first in the summer.

CV doesn’t play D.get rid of him.Gordon should be kept 2 be the 6th man lighting up the scoreboard off the bench.

Trade Charlie V. Let Ben Gordon come off the bench. Start Jerebko. Bring in some players that don’t actually need the ball to have an impact (Battier, Nic Batum) Trade Rip and Tay because they are better served in a winning environment not on a team struggling to get an 8th spot.
