Miami Heat to Target Michael Redd, Tracy McGrady?

According to the Miami Herald, the Heat will give serious consideration to both Michael Redd and Tracy McGrady once the NBA lockout ends. Miami fans must surely be thrilled: “If the Heat cannot sign preferred choices Shane Battier, Grant Hill or Tayshaun Prince postlockout, Miami will consider Michael Redd and Tracy McGrady, among others.”

    carter and tmac please… :(

  • http://nba.com GP23

The Heat should be looking at Iverson or Nash to fill their point guard slot.

  • cramzy

beat them to the punch on 2k11…come on man,old decrepit House, Dampier, Bibby, Howard & Big Z or old decrepit A.I. and T-Mac?

  • rikson

Iverson on that packed heat team… cmon buddy, that’ll never work!

  • rikson

Plus Id love to see a healthy Redd…!

  • DieselMechanic

Bring AI to Miami, get him that chip and let him go off into the sunset.

Redd in a Heat uniform doesn’t make sense to me, they have enough scorers. What they need is a good C or a PF, even if that means they would trade Bosh!

  • andre anglais

isn’t that like throwing in the towel?

  • http://www.ballislife.com/video/jordan50pointgames nbk

Is this insinuating Wade or James will be playing the point?

  • http://Slameonline Hoosier

A healthy Redd would be nice but they need a traditional PG & a C in my mind, so that eliminates AI to me. Speaking of Redd- prime example of owners & GMs overpaying for a player(s)- that is a main reason for this lockout. Just hope they reel in some of these outlandish contracts, the amount it costs for a family to enjoy an actual game & reach a deal before any further damage is done to the reputation of the A, it’s players and the franchises themselves…

TMac would play the point, like those who watch basketball know he’s done for the past two years.

  • http://Slameonline Hoosier

that will suffer the most. owners will still be DI*KS!!!

  • http://www.ballislife.com/video/jordan50pointgames nbk

He split time with Stuckey on a horrible team. That is a totally different situation then jumping into the PG on a championship contender. I mean I understand McGrady would initiate some offense, but I could not see him as the primary ball handler in Miami, especially considering they are *supposedly “upping the tempo”

  • Kid Viscious

Cmon who else do they need? they got bron bron wade and bosh! what now they need washed up players to all of a sudden make them better? smh how bout a better coach not better players.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Redd and Mcgrady each have a 20+ ppg season in them. Mcgrady is also an amazing ball handler so I can see him beig the point guard

  • http://www.twitter.com/JoshElam JE

he initially split time with stuckey until they realized he was running the point better, at which point they moved stuckey to the 2guard most of the time. he was a good facilitator on a horrible team. he’d be a better facilitator on a great team. health is really the only reason not to think he would be a great fit for their point guard position, on both ends of the court.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Forgot to mention I meant 20+ ppg in the D-league haha

  • T-Money

PROVIDING they can’t get battier, hill or prince. T-Mac is a back-up plan, nothing more.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

Nah mcgrady can run the point… But they NEED A CENTER. GET NENE!!!!!!

  • Stillballin

Get Ai… I still think he still has alot of basketball left in him.. Also Lebron and wade will learn alot from him..

  • http://www.slamonline.com blackvictory23

    lol @Stillballin

  • http://www.twitter.com/JoshElam JE

love AI, but what is Wade, an NBA champion, going to learn from him at this point?

  • http://www.twitter.com/JoshElam JE

who knew 7 years ago that Grant Hill would ever be more highly coveted than Tracy McGrady?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Who knew 11 years ago that Tracy McGrady would ever be more highly coveted than Grant Hill?

  • stayweird38

Ai is way better than scrub bibby

  • Bravo

Wow Miami should sign vc and tmac it would b the old school raptors squad! They finally get s chance to play with cb

  • Ali

    MIA still reaching, Hahahaha….

  • BillyQ

Lebron should take the point Mike Miller or Haslem to play the 3 and the heat should be concentrating on getting a decent big.

  • Dyce

Tired of hearing all The Heat need is a power forward and a point guard. Of course if they get an all-star at all 5 positions they will be better. All it sounds like are excuses. They have the best roster in the NBA now.

The McGrady point guard experiment lasted about 2 months. He started 39 games last season total, I don’t have the exact number that were as the “de facto” point guard, but he finished the season off the ball just like he started it. Only difference was he finished in the starting lineup. McGrady had only 20 games on the whole season of more then 5 assists, He had 23 games of more then 5 rebounds for comparisons sake.

  • robb

the Heat need a center. They don’t need another scorer and certainly don’t need a has been.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

They need to sign AI, he gets to the line more then Bibby and Chalmer ever will he is better than both of them hes a veteran he knows his role on this team at this stage in his career MAKE IT HAPENED!.

  • Dyce

I don’t see them needing a point guard at all, Chalmers is more than servicable. He knocks down the open 3 is a good defender. They could use some size but all this heat need so much more is crazy.

  • JL

they’re fine. another year with better chemistry and they will be much better. with the big three it will always be more star based approach rather than team basketball. you’re wasting the talent if you are trying to do team. just need to figure out when one of the stars is being a ball hog what the other two are doing. that’s what i saw in the playoffs. either way, I still don’t like them. Don’t like the stars, don’t like the bench guys either. how can they manage to gather so many unlikeable guys? (not to everyone, but general consensus in the whole US seems to be anti Heat whether it be because of Lebron or just individual things like Bosh being a P***Y and whiner, and Dwade looking like he’s always looking down at people.) They are a good team though, but not perfect pieces to one puzzle. Maybe get two more really good defensive guys on their team.

  • http://www.yomamajokes.com LilKDub503

They need to “target” a young point guard or a grizzled big, because Bosh isn’t cutting it, he’s an overglorified small forward, like a condo is an overglorified apartment. It’s all moot until the lockout’s over though.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

Let’s see if the new CBA even gives them enough cap room to add free agents.

  • Dyce

What skills do you want the young point guard to have? All their point guard has to do is be able to knock down the open jumper and defend, And they have that they need no more excuses.

  • http://www.twitter.com/JoshElam JE

@nbk I get what you’re saying; I guess I just disagree with the way you’re interpreting it. It did seem like more games at the point than it actually was. took some searching to find these stats, but there were 11 games where he played the point AND played at least 25 minutes. I wish I could find a stat with the number down to 20, but I don’t feel like searching further. Anyway, 12.9 points, 5.4 boards and 5 dimes per. Stuckey’s season averages were 15.5 points, 3.1 reb and 5.2 asst. per game with 31.2 mpg. I really feel like McGrady in Miami’s system (or virtually any system other than Detroit’s, and provided he’s healthy enough for 20-25mpg) would allow for at least 7 assists per game. Even if he replicated those stats, it’s got a chance at working.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

But T-Mac was famously “unimpressed” by the Heat’s team. Why would he ever go there? lol

  • http://www.twitter.com/JoshElam JE

famously, as in, that was the title of an article on this website during the middle of the week once.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

TMac would actually be a good fit off the bench for the Heat – he can fill in for both spots the 38 seconds per game LeBron or Wade aren’t on the floor.

  • marc

I’m mad people are calling TMAC and Redd has beens when the heat have Juwan Howard. smh TMAC and Redd can contribute more then him. I’m just saying

  • red man

Anything than those saggy veterans we had will work for me, Don’t wanna see Magloire Dampier Ilgaskus Howard or Bibby on that roster please… let’s get Dalembert, Eddy curry(seriously)and Dexter pittman in the center by committee…Michael Redd, A.I can replace Bibby, T mac and jarvis vernado.

  • http://slamonline.com SpaceJam

Michael Redd would be fantastic for the Bulls though. Provided his knee is healthy. Shooter and can create his shot. Tibs whips him into defensive shape

  • http://myspace.com/gametimeweezy Gametimeweezy

Hold up the Heat are sounding a little bit more interesting now!!!

  • ab40

AI is a free agent for life. Tmac would be a good backup on a contender either here or in LA. The Bulls should’ve signed him last year

  • L-Dub20

If Tmac can stay healthy, he would be a good 7th man. Redd would be a better fit as he is a better defender (perimeter) and a much better shooter. With Wade and James creating and dishing it would give him as well as James Jones/Mike Miller/Eddie House/Mario Chalmers open 3 balls. Similar to Nash creating the show for Joe Johnson,Q Richardson, James Jones (i believe was there too)? Id prefer Redd over Tmac even though they have both had their share of injuries.

  • BoWeezy24

Steve Nash to The Heat. Nash Need A Ring Too…
