Orlando Mayor: Magic Have Advantage to Re-Sign Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard’s impending free agency is on every Orlando citizen’s mind, including the mayor of the city. He thinks the new CBA – whenever it’s enacted – will give the Magic the edge they need to retain their franchise player. From the Sentinel: “Will Dwight Howard stay with the Orlando Magic? That is the $100 million question and one mayor Buddy Dyer hinted the other day that he may have the answer to Dyer says he has been told by Magic CEO Alex Martins that the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement could include a new rule that would allow the Magic to outbid other suitors for Dwight’s services. ‘One thing that might give some comfort to Orlando fans is that one of the thoughts in the new collective bargaining agreement is to give an advantage to teams who are trying to keep their incumbent players,’ Dyer says. ‘That would allow the Magic, for instance, to offer Dwight more money than any other team and (entice him) to stay home.’”

‘the new collective bargaining agreement’ doesn’t exist.

Dwight wants a ring more than money, so Orlando still don’t have an advantage.

They already have that advantage. Are they saying there will be a “franchise tag” to enable to them to resign a player against his wishes?

Does Orlando’s mayor already know the details of the new CBA? If the new CBA doesn’t include a franchise tag, D-12 will be heading west!!!

Its always about money…I live on Orlando so I know that if D12 leaves…the team will lose the interest of almost everyone here…they definitely need to bring more good players around him.

It’s all about money. That’s why Superman should team up with Mr. Prokhorv in Brooklyn…

Money won’t be the issue where he signs. Plus, he gets lots of money from endorsements so money won’t be the deciding factor because he’ll get whatever the max is anywhere he goes. He wants a ring

It has to do with money, but not to the extent that people think. He’s not going to go to the highest bidder if they garbage. If that was the case, he’d stay in Orlando. He’ll take a paycut if he can go to a contender, but he sure as hell isn’t going to sign for the minimum either. I believe he wants to be “the man” wherever he goes. I don’t see him turning down the Lakers if they make a move for him. He sure as hell isn’t coming to NYC or Brooklyn. But don’t count out Boston. Aren’t they gonna have alot of cap room come the 2012 season?

o: wanting to be the man and wanting to be in l.a. are mutually exclusive as long as bean is lacing them up.
