Report: Mike Woodson Hired as Knicks’ Assistant Coach

As expected, Mike Woodson is now on Mike D’Antoni’s coaching staff in New York. The Knicks will make the hire official later on today. Reports the NY Post: “The Knicks have hired Mike Woodson as Mike D’Antoni’s defensive assistant and are expected to announce the move later today, according to a person familiar with the situation…Woodson, who coached Atlanta from 2004 to 2010, was a key assistant on Larry Brown’s staff during the Pistons’ 2003-2004 NBA championship run. Woodson, a former Knicks first-round pick, is regarded as having good defensive principles, having learned at the lap of Brown and Bobby Knight at Indiana. Woodson played for Red Holzman in 1980-81. ‘I’m interested,’ Woodson told The Post on Aug. 9. ‘It’s where my NBA career started. I’d like to help Mike and see things continue to grow there.’ D’Antoni has long opposed hiring a defensive assistant when it was first suggested in Phoenix but Knicks management convinced him after the Knicks struggled on the defensive end the past three years.”

    My thoughts exactly.
Maybe he’ll take his old Atlanta Hawks playbook with him so there can be like 20 new isolation plays for Melo and Amare.

Like they don’t have enough of that in Antoni’s playbook.

Good defensive principles can’t make up for what Melo and Amar’e give you on that end. And the best he got Atlanta defensively (rating wise) was 12th, that team is full of guys that should be able to defend and he could barely get them in the top half of the whole league, how the hell does anyone expect him to really help the Knicks.

It really doesn’t matter because Dolan already screwed things up by forcing Walsh to quit. As long as Dolan is at the helm, nothing will fix the Knicks

I think what the Knicks need is an old point guard who has an eye for talent. Can’t think of any off the top of my head though. Maybe try Isiah?

And MEDIOCRITY in new york continues. This guy couldn’t save the undersized yet athletic hawks defense so really… what the hell is he going to do with a defense where 2 of his main stars don’t even want to play D with an aging billups in the backcourt not to mention an undersized center in turiaf? MEDIOCRITY.
