Ricky Rubio, Rudy Fernandez Injured While Playing for Spain

FIBA Europe reports that the Spanish national hoops team had both Rubio and Fernandez get dinged up during EuroBasket play: “Spain brushed aside Slovenia for the second night in a row on Sunday, cruising to a 79-57 victory in Granada. Pau Gasol had 19 points for Spain, who played without Ricky Rubio, with the point guard having sprained his ankle in the first meeting with Slovenia on Saturday in Malaga. Rubio will be evaluated in the coming days. Spain also lost another player to injury on Sunday when Rudy Fernandez hurt his right arm and didn’t play at all in the second half.”

Who is this Pau Gasol? Did he play in the NBA at one point before the beginning of the 2011 playoffs?

So, the pain in Spain comes mainly from the sprain?

  • Morgan

Thank you hillbilly you have just made my slow day at work a hell of lot better.

Is any North American tv network covering Eurobasket at all? I assume NBA TV can’t show international competition? Only 1985 Larry Bird highlights, right?

Anybody got any good links to sites that give good recaps/highlights from Eurobasket?

Did Jonas Valunciunas end up getting to play for the Senior Mens team in Lithuania?

Eurobasket begins 30th August. These are just preliminary games to get in shape. Spain has won all games but one and I’ve seen the Gasol’s scoring threes. And not just one, Pau scored 2 three pointers in a couple of games. Spain’s post game is awesome right now, with the Gasol’s, Ibaka and Felipe Reyes. Add Calderon, Ricky (already training) Rudy (will begin to train in a couple of days) and Navarro and Spain is the huge favourite for the Eurobasket.
Not sure Rudy will continue in the NBA tough, he has signed a big deal with Real Madrid.

@goattree. From what I’ve heard, Yes, Jonas Valanciunas made the Senior team. Donatas Montiejunas got cut. I also heard some of the bigs on Lithuania got injured so hopefully more playing time for Jonas.
