Wilson Chandler to Play in China During NBA Lockout

Forget about Italy; Wilson Chandler is taking his talents to the Far East instead (and could be stuck there for a long time.) Reports ESPN: “Wilson Chandler said he has signed a contract with the Zhejiang Guangsha of the Chinese Basketball Association, a move that would essentially preclude him from participating in the 2011-12 NBA season if the lockout ends and the games begin. The Chinese Basketball Association will not allow players with existing contracts to sign with its teams, so playing in China is only an option for free agents such as Chandler, a restricted free agent who finished the 2010-11 season with the Denver Nuggets. In addition, the CBA will not allow escape clauses that would allow players to leave the Chinese league in the event the NBA resumes operations. So Chandler would not be a part of the NBA if the season begins on time or even with an abbreviated schedule starting in January or February. ‘Maybe I’ll lose out,’ Chandler said. ‘But I think it can be a great experience. I haven’t been in any [labor negotiation] meetings. I can’t call it. I’m just taking a risk, at the end of the day.’”

HE IS TAKING A RISK. IM NOT SURE THIS IS THE SMARTEST MOVE FOR HIM. BUT ITS HIS LIFE

The next time I hear Wilson Chandler’s name I hope he’s averaging at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals and 5 blocks for the CBA.

Oooh. Not too sure about this move.

Disunity like this is why the players will inevitably lose the lockout.

Well, IF we have a season, sucks that Chandler won’t be in it. Before the Melo trade, I thought he did very well for the Knicks. I like do-it-all forwards like him (and a joy to have on fantasy teams)

He should play on a contender.

Sounds great, imo. He’ll have a blast, make some money, and improve on every facet of his game. He’ll have the opportunity to visit another country (Who wouldn’t want that?), establish a profile in biggest market in the world, and once the season is over, NBA teams will obviously take an interest in him.
The only concern here is the potential for injury–but he’s young and durable, playing in a league that has shorter games and shorter seasons. He’ll be fine.

Is he still signed with Pony or whatever that shoe brand is called?
Now that I think about it, if dude kills it in China, he could play himself into getting a lucrative deal with one of the Chinese shoe brands, and they’re creeping on the come up in the shoe game.

Yep, cosign Teddy and Enigmatic. Marbury dropped like, 25-5-7 in China. If Chandler can do that and more, and run some playoff success, then it is cha-ching. This is a good move.
