UPDATE: Earl Clark Leaving China for Family Reasons

UPDATE: Whoops! Turns out that Clark’s decision to bolt from the Far East has nothing to do with the cuisine. His agent tells the Orlando Sentinel that family reasons are to blame: “Happy Walters, who represents Clark, said the 6-foot-10 forward has returned to the United States because Clark’s girlfriend is seven weeks away from giving birth to a baby boy and is having some complications. ‘He wanted to be there and was not comfortable being in China with problems happening,’ Walters told the Orlando Sentinel via e-mail. ‘He is bummed, but family comes first. The team in China has been very supportive and understanding and they will release him from his contract,’ Walters added.”

Earl Clark is reportedly bolting from China and the team he signed on with during the NBA lockout. Clark couldn’t stand the food, apparently. From Sportando (via HoopChina): “As reported by HoopChina, Earl Clark asked to leave Zhejiang because he could not get used to Chinese food. Clark was one of the first important NBA players who left US for the Asian country. Clark spent two seasons in the NBA averaging 3.3ppg in 93 games. The Chinese team is already seeking the market to replace him.”

Get your facts straight. He left because his girlfriend is having complications with her pregnancy.

The guy is in the land of pork fired rice and duck sauce and he wants to leave?

Funny, Chinese cusine imo is my fav of all international cuisine lol

Maybe he wasnt getting the “commercial” chinese we get over here, and was being exposed more to the real and hardcore-ish chinese food, which can be a bit weird at times

its not all pork fried rice and duck sauce all the time over there i guess lol

Family comes first. I doubt he left because of the food. That sounds crazy. to me based on the cuisine’s popularity here in the states.

I actually think Clark will add a lot as a solid role player as his career goes on and in the right situation. He has shown in some spots that he can perform well when gets time. He has a unique set of skills for a guy his size that can really help a team. I think the next 2 seasons he will get an opportunity.

@JM – well, I never been to China, but I highly doubt the food over there is anything like the Americanized version we all know and love here.
Anyways, dude made a good choice going to make sure family is ok.

I’d just like to point out that Chinese people invented pasta.
