TWolves Hire Rick Adelman as New Head Coach

It’s finally official: The Minnesota Timberwolves and Rick Adelman have come to terms that will give the team a new head coach. The Minnesota Star-Tribune is on it: “Rick Adelman, who has coached 20 NBA seasons, will be the new Timberwolves coach. According to two league sources, Timberwolves president David Kahn is calling other candidates and telling them he has struck a deal with Adelman. Terms of the deal, or if Adelman got the five-year, $25 million contract he was believed to be seeking, are not known.”

Horrible move on Adelman’s part. He’s one of the best 10 coaches in the game today, so why settle for such a horrible team? If i were him i would wait until the knicks fire mike, the hawks fire their guy, flip saunders is on his way out of washington, van gundy’s probably on a short leech, toronto’s bound to have an opening soon. I think if you’re an established coach you don’t get yourself into that kind of mess. let a young coach break into the coaching ranks with a terrible job like that one. They’re best 4 players are all 6’9 and flawed. Beasly and Williams are tweeners, Love lacks a lil bit of height and is not athletic at all, and wesley johnson’s a freak athlete who’s got no ball handling skill. Rubio’s gonna come next year and he’s gonna get burned by quick pgs cuz he’s slow and won’t be able to make plays cuz he’s not a threat to score from anywhere (he’s probably fail at making wide open lay ups in transition). Terrible job

At the very least, like GState, they’ll be FUN to watch!

Can Ricky Rubio turn into JWill? And team with Love in the CWebb role? Would be awesome, but unlikely.

    Cosign M Cho.

I’ll call it now. If Adelman is given free reign, the T’Wolves will make the playoffs. Look at the Rockets team Adelman got to a 22 win streak and the playoffs in 07-08. Starters were: Rafer Alston, Tracy McGrady, Shane Battier, Luis Scola, and Chuck Hayes with Aaron Brooks (rookie) and Carl Landry (rookie) off the bench. I’d argue that Rubio, Wes, Beasley, Love, and Darko with Derrick and Ridnour off the bench is more talented.

I really like this move, but I don’t see Adelman tolerating Beasley’s crap with Derrick Williams just waiting there.

They will be a better team.

VERY good move. This team is starting to shape up.

@caboose the difference is that Rockets team had some character glue guys in Battier, Scola, Landry, Hayes and Brooks who knew their roles and kept the team together. Minny has some inexperienced unstable guys or guys who are too reserved to make a difference. Love may be this teams only leader.

@M Cho that’s what Khan would like, but I think Adelman would prefer him to become more of a Mike Bibby.
