New Book: Glen Rice Involved With Sarah Palin in 1987

To say that the basketball star and politician were “romantically” linked some 24 years ago would be more than a stretch, but according to a new biography of Sarah Palin, she did once hook up with Glen Rice in the late ’80s. From The National Inquirer in all their sensationalistic glory (via Deadspin): “Publishing sources familiar with the contents of author Joe McGinniss’ highly-anticipated book ‘The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin’ have revealed shocking secrets that will impact her decision to enter the 2012 presidential race. In the book, which will be published on September 20th, McGinniss claims Sarah had a steamy interracial hookup with basketball stud Glen Rice less than a year before she eloped with her husband Todd. Sarah hooked up with the NBA great, then a 6-foot-8 junior at the University of Michigan when he was playing in a college basketball tournament in Alaska in 1987, the book says. At the time, Sarah, just out of college, was working as a sports reporter for the Anchorage TV station KTUU. A publishing source told The Enquirer that McGinniss claims Sarah had a ‘fetish’ for black men at the time and he quotes a friend as saying Sarah had ‘hauled (Rice’s) ass down.’ … In the book, McGinniss quotes Rice as confirming the one-night stand.”

Oh, and Lakeshow – Palin’s “smarter than your average woman”?
    Word? Come on now.
    Cause she’s a politician doesn’t make her super-intelligent.
She might be shrewd, and business-savvy but come on.
Five different colleges to earn her Bachelor’s, the most prestigious of which was the University of Idaho.
She never went on to earn a Master’s.
Nbk touched on some of the idiotic statements she’s made over the years, and there’s plenty more.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    I stand by my statement…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I didn’t mean racism, I meant a racial issue. my bad
-And it was with the wording “McGinniss claims Sarah had a steamy interracial hookup with basketball stud Glen Rice”
    - He explained why interracial was included to another commenter.
-Then you came in and told Allen “A world where everyhting has a race basis. Eww no thanks. I’ll stay invested in a ridiculous reality where color of skin isn’t an issue…”

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    just to sum it up.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Sarah Palin is an idiot too. Just because you’re successful, and conned some people into thinking you know anything about politics doesn’t mean your “smarter then the average man/woman”.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I meant in the coverage of Williams. And with Bill Walton. Allen just sees racism where I do not sometimes. From your knowledge base do you think Bill Walton is a racist? Allen thinks so. I do not. I see exactly why this article is rediculous for bringing it into the statement unnecessarily. I will stick by Palin being smarter than the average woman. What percentage of women have their bachelors degree? Allot, but more than half? All i’m saying is she is in the top 50 % lol…

  • Papa Smurf

Seriously, this post should have been followed by a lot of funny comments. Let me summarize the racism discussion: there are a lot of racists in the US. The end. Now let’s get back to the jokes about nailing Palin.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Well, 30% of women in the US have earned a Bachelor’s or higher. But it’s about more than just possessing a degree.
I’d wager a good 80% of women in the US possess more common sense than her, for one…

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Bachelors Degree = Work Ethic. Not intelligence

My opinion of the Serena’s legacy being damaged is stated
    - nbk Posted: Sep.14 at 1:09 pm
“Now idk how anyone can believe Serena’s legacy will be damaged by this, it won’t. Just because some journalist who needs readers writes it, doesn’t mean it has any truth.”

  • Allenp

    1. I never mentioned Serena Williams.
    2. I never called Bill Walton a racist.
You need to summarize mypoints better before you object to them. Bottom line, you don’t like how I think or how I express my thoughts. That is the gist of this situation..

  • seriousblack

Co-sign BC, Allenp, z etc. You know what else is interesting? Whenever the “colorblind” folks are telling others to forget about racism, it’s almost always directed at the people most likely to be on the receiving end of racism. There’s a tone of resentment when the Lakeshows of the world talk about moving past race talk. It’s funny how they minimize the experiences of others just because their idea of racism no longer matches current issues. It’s like it doesn’t exist if they personally can’t or don’t want to see it. My favorite quote from those people is “America can’t be racist, we have a black president”. Idiots. I also want to know how a “post-race” world can possibly exist when there is an embarrassingly unbalanced distribution of power and wealth amongst mainly western caucasian nations? The U.S is a perfect example. As diverse as this country is, the overwhelming majority of our lawmakers, judicial members, and wealthy are comprised from one racial group. Racial tension will exist minimally ONLY when those in positions of power and influence more closely resemble the ENTIRE population. It prevents one group from using their position to disenfranchise those who don’t look like them (intentionally or not); and it would lessen resentment and mistrust from minorities. All things MUST be equal across the board for the whole post racial thing to be plausible. Everything from the good, great, bad, and ugly must be fair and equal. Until that day comes, there won’t be a “post-racial” U.S. Who knows if we’ll ever get there. The only thing that is certain is that we damn sure aren’t anywhere near it now, Lakeshow.

Most republicans aren’t even true conservatives–they’re neo-conservatives. Which is why the neo-cons at FOX News h@te it when a real conservative (aka constitutionalist) like Ron Paul comes along once every ten years.

    LONG… LIVE… THE KING!

  • http://snajkff.xom Jukai

Oh… MAN I missed this one. So many things I wanted to say.
LakeShow: I agree with you about the Bill Walton thing, man. I really think Allen simply doesn’t like Bill Walton and let his hate cloud his judgement.
But the Serena thing is realllllly sketchy. There was a Fox early morning news show host who actually said “Is Serena trying to invoke some race thing here?” when she heard Serena call the ref a hater. The media’s reaction should be “awww, pity, it ruined her good girl image” and not “whoaaaaa this woman is the role model for our kids??”
It’s also hard, cause the world is unique— many people are simply shocked at Williams’ behavior, others are incredibly racist and are jumping out of their seats to shout “TOLD YOU SO!!!”
Me? I don’t care. I think it should have been an ESPN sidenote. Nothing should have come out of it. It’s just all very odd.

  • blakos

The USA democratic system is wack.

  • blakos

Williams probably didn’t show herself in the greatest light. But i like the fact that athletes act out at times. Great entertainment. At the end of the day her amazing ability will make sure her legacy all good. A few incidents with an umpire wont change that.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

To everyone here, I suggest you check out a politician by the name of Dennis Kucinich. Seriously visit his website, his Facebook page, whatever else you can find–he is the real deal. No bullsh!t, cares about his country, and is ALWAYS honest. He, apart from Ron Paul, is the ONLY politician in congress not bought over by the corporate lobbies.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFabLp-Jcbg&NR=1&feature=fvwp
Do yourselves a favor and watch this video. I’m not sure if he is running for office in 2012, but if he does, he’ll be the ONLY candidate worth voting for.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

This is the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

Jimmy Connors used to act out, too.
It was charming to some. It showed that he wore his “passion on his sleeve”…
Andy Roddick has his moments, too.
Williams’ actures are being scrutinized partly because, quite honestly and simply, Serena Williams is the most talented, and arguably the most dominant female tennis player of all times.
This comes with the territory, my brethren. She makes the most money.
Eldrick Woods had to go through it, too.
When one is among the first of their kind, often times they have to adhere to a certain “thing”.
    Especially in tennis and golf.
    In my judgement.

  • EJ

Doesn’t a Bachelors degree require a lot of money? Cause it’s USA.

  • dan

    @allenp:

you might laugh now but im from germany. im white n ive been with alot of girls from any “race” ive also gt alot of black friends whove been with alot of white girls or girls of any “race” and this has never been an issue. weve also got alot of celebrities having relationships you might call “interracial” in public but race would never be mentioned in the news when people report on that just because its normal.

sure, there is racism over here too like anywhere on this planet. but this only happens in underdeveloped areas, mostly in rural areas and also just among the minority of the people. i am really shocked that race is still such an issue over there while even a country with a nazi past left the race issue behind. for example: when dirk nowitzki had this criminal girlfriend who went to prison and obviously was mixed or black ( i dont know the pc term for that in english) you couldnt find any word in the news about her colour just because colour doesnt matter at all.

  • http://gmail.com z

yea i listen to npr everyday, and it’s an oft repeated fact as of late that white fams in the usa make ON AVERAGE 20 TIMES as much money as black fams in the usa. thats the largest disparity between the two OF ALL TIME, coincidentally. What that means is that blacks are making a smaller fraction of what whites are making than we did when we were living under jim crow…I don’t understand how people like lakeshow, if they did even a minimal amount of paying attention to the facts, can conclude that racism is no longer prevalent in this country. Open your eyes people. Allenp speaks Truth on race issues, you’re just too darn stuck in your comfortable worldview to accept that not everywhere in the usa is as “progressive” as the seattle metropolitan area (which i’ve been to, and will vouch for as being a very harmonious place, racially–at least on the surface anyway). When you’ve got such a big disparity in wealth, how can it be argued that there’s no “race problems” anymore?

  • http://gmail.com z

Also, i’d like to give kudos to glen rice, for accidentally throwing a monkey wrench in the tea party’s desire to create the perfect female politician, this’ll definitely wind up being a problem for palin if she runs for prez. glen deserves a 2nd championship ring for this.

  • dan

@z: i totally agree on that. but pointing out “interracial” relationships is not a step into the right direction. stomping social borderlines in the heads of the people would be a good step into the right direction to overcome segregation. one of the reasons why too many black people in the us dont have a chance to participate in the formal work markets is that they are being marginalized by the white establishment and so by the mass media. if you/they dont start re-thinking society over there on a social and cultural basis, the economical sector wont follow. the economy shouldnt have undisputed power neither. the state should force the economy to pay more taxes and restrict them a bit more in order to have more money to found a wellfare state that would help the “under class” overcoming financial and social borderlines would be necessary. but then the republicans

  • ScottyBoi

    Sarah Palin wasnt sophisticated?
    & Obama was?
He said we had 57 states.

  • dan

would shout out loud “communism” because they cant tell social responsibilty within the economic and political sector. obama allready tried to do that but then the republicans outmanouvered him to the disatvantage of the majority of the people. the state is broke anyway due to two illegal and extremely costly wars (thanks george w jr) and a financial crash when the stock market collapsed as a result of good old republican predatory-capitalism. the world is a bad bad place. emigrate to europe as long as you still can lol

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Dan
While I don’t disagree with your summary of the situation, going to Europe doesn’t seem like a great move with the financial situation you all are dealing with as well, and the rumblings about the collapse of the EU. America isn’t the predatory capitalist state. More importantly, welfare states sound good in theory, and I support the government helping those in need, but in practice that often breed resentment among the dominant group as has happened in England, Italy, France, Sweden and Norway with the backlash against racial minorities and Muslims.
And for the Germany thing, my best partner lived there for nearly a year, and said it was cool in a lot of way, not so cool in others. He was in Berlin and one of his enduring memories was waiting for a train and having two white German kids come up to him and randomly ask him if they could buy some weed. My friend is a professional, but of all the people on the train platform, he was the one they picked as the potential weed man.

  • dan

depends on where you go: germany and the scandinavian countries are still stable and are helping to rescue the broke n corrupt countries like greece or spain.

lol i know that weed situation too well, i sometimes got asked too when i was wearing baggypants. and as i said there is still racism all over the world. im not a patriot neither i hold it with oscar wilde “patriotism is the virtue of the vicious” and i also hope that the usa will be able to remain its superior power on the world stage… just less conservative/republican. and wellfare states function very well in public, germany and the scandinavian states are the living proof. england and france decreased their wellfare systems and the london / british riots were the latest result of that.

for example: over here it doesnt matter if your family is rich or poor, everybody has the same chance to study and have a good future coz if youre broke you get a cheap credit to go to university if you want to. sure, amongst lower classes are more problems and lower chances at all compared to wealthy classes. but the equality of the people is at a much higher degree than in non wellfare states. and sorry im not an anti-american (as it became fashionable during the last decade) but predatory capitalism was re-invented during the last century in the usa and spread among the whole post-colonial world. now it suffers from it because capitalism doesnt work same as cumminism, both just work theoretically. a healthy mix of free economy and social responsability due to state controll is the key. in this setting anti-racist campaigns have more chance to bloom than in a setting in wich the rich knockaround the poor as u can see it today in any capitalist states.

To the scout back then who said Glen couldn’t go to his right… take that!

  • EJ

Allen, are you serious about the backlash against muslims in Europe? Coming from an American, that is just plain ridiculous. Yea, there’s obviously some whackos and racism is alive and well all over the world, but seems to me that you think everything happens “cause I’m black”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q17z3UqLeHI watch that.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

@ ScottyBoi – There’s a difference between an slight slip of the tounge due to being fatigued and tired, and not knowing your sh*t

  • EJ

Also the reason for the income disparitiy in today’s America is because of the private education system. You need a good education to get a good job, and to get a good education in USA, you need money. So it’s very hard to get a good education if you happen to be born to poor parents. It’s not really up to you in that situation.
Now we all know that blacks were kept poor cause of their skin color, and when that stopped being the norm, the system was already like this.
So now people don’t technically have to be racist to keep the disparities of income this big between different ethnicities.
And it’s not big just between blacks and whites, I mean overall the disparity of income is on the same level as in friggin Uganda.

  • http://gmail.com z

Also ej you’re exactly right, being born poor is a cycle that keeps the same families, the same demographic of society mired in poverty. Isn’t that counter to the “american dream”? It’s time for real change, and that change can only be led by the young.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Average salary of “whites v anyone” in the United States of America is always going to be a controversial disparity. Ever heard of Family Money? Well those (typically white) families have incredibly large fortunes, thousands of % higher then the average person, and when you seperate everyone by just skin color, those people with “family money” are going to royally skew the average.

  • http://www.slamonline.com UNFROZEN CAVEMAN LAWYER

RUSH THE EARTH ON BY… PLANET SPIN…………

  • dan

youre all absolutely right. but the young wont change anything coz they r more concerned about the outcome of the next college game, superbowl, charts music or which celibrities are shagging each other. (well this is a phenomenon in any rich country, over here too) but segregation and racism over there seems to be real f*cked up. so just come over here guys n lets shoot some hoops ure all wellcome lol

  • ScottyBoi

Enigmatic- hahaa he was so tired & fatigued that he forgot how many states we have?
    yeah, that’s believable.

  • http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/31941/digging-deep-to-share-revenue nbk

he said 57 but meant 47. He had traveled to every state, but Oregon (where he was when he made the statement) Alaska, and Hawaii — He later acknowledged the mistake as a “numeracy problem” — which is not that uncommon of a mistake if your just talking to a person. Palin said outrageously stupid things, and proceeded to defend and try and justify them. Obama made a mistake, and owned up to it.

  • ScottyBoi

Or maybe he’s just not to bright without a teleprompter.

Or maybe he’s just not TOO bright without a teleprompter.

ScottyBoi is probably a conspiracy theorist, and thinks Obama was really talking about the 57 islamic states. The dude made a mistake, like a human being, he just happens to be president, move on to something relevant, like Sarah Palin’s sex life

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

True. And by no means am I an Obama apologist.
There’s plenty I could criticize dude for.
I just think it’s dumb when people criticize him over the smallest, insignificant sh*t and try to point to that as why he’s “the worst president ever”.

  • http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/31941/digging-deep-to-share-revenue nbk

I don’t even like Obama. lol – I also don’t like any other presidential candidate since I started “kind of” following politics. But I’m like you, not going to focus on something this insignificant. Obama has proven his intelligence to me, its his leadership that I question, but I am not in any place to judge him as a good or bad president at this point.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Yeah, I’m with you. All the presidential candidates are either horrible, or I don’t know enough about them to judge if they are or not but based on the rest of the field, I’m not too optimistic.

  • dan

@nbk: the problem why obama cant come thrrough with his policy is that the republicans still have too many votes and power in congress to outmanouver him. its unbelievable to the rest of the world i think, that there are still people on this planet who vote republicans even though they are able to read, write and solve the task 1+1=?…

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    F that.
There’s sh*tty democrats too. Lots of them.

  • dan

@enigmatic: sure, i know that. but there is just no alternative over there.
