Pau Gasol Day-to-Day After Spraining Ankle

Injuries are always a risk during international ball—during any type of ball, for that matter—and it sounds like Pau Gasol might’ve tweaked an ankle while hooping for Spain this weekend. According to ESPN, Spain expects him to recover pretty quickly: “Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol is expected to be fit for the second round of EuroBasket, despite sitting out Spain’s 65-57 defeat on Turkey on Monday. The Spaniards were already guaranteed first place in Group A of the competition and opted not to risk Gasol, who sustained a minor ankle sprain during Sunday’s victory over the tournament hosts. ‘He is day to day,’ said Spain coach Sergio Scariolo. ‘He’s having treatment and the doctors will assess him before the second round begins.’”

He’s going to be ready for tomorrow’s game against Nowitzki. Too bad the game it’s at 14.15… hard for me to see it. And on Sunday against Tony Parker, Noah and company. Good basketball week!!

Spain is loaded. They seem to toy around with their competition sometimes. Gasol isn’t even trying too hard sometimes. Rubio is playing terrible, not sure why. But when they decide to get serious and if Bron, Durant and co don’t shape up next year, this team is for real. They lost in 2008 without Calderon and Rubio was still new to the team and now they got Ibaka on that frontline. Deep!

Spain should not be able to compete w/ a fully loaded team USA. Recent years international competition has been a sad commentary on the teamwork of our American superstars save for the redeem team. USA is way more talented at every position.

Gasol played great yesterday although his ankle looked terrible. USA will have a hard time if they face in the Olympics, the key to Spain’s success is the players playing together every summer for many many years (Spain’s core players have been together for at least 12 years)
