Ron Artest Guarantees Lakers Title in 2012

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Just because there may not be an NBA season in 2011-’12 won’t stop Ron Artest from guaranteeing a title for his squad. Why let reality get in the way of bravado, after all?

Should there be NBA hoops next season, Ron-Ron apparently isn’t too concerned about the aging Lakers, their new coach implementing a whole new offense and defense, and the dramatic rise of the competition in both conferences.

Nope, according to the man soon to be known as Metta World Peace, the next championship belongs to the Lakers. No doubt about it.

From the LA Times (via ESPN):

It may all feel like a distant memory considering how the Lakers ended the 2011 postseason with a four-game sweep to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals. But Artest guaranteed to ESPN Los Angeles’ Stephen A. Smith in a 40-minute interview Wednesday that the Lakers will again pop the champagne bottles after winning the 2012 NBA title. Assuming there’s a season of course. “Win it all,” Artest said when asked what will the Lakers do in the 2011-2012 season. “Win the whole thing. That’s a guarantee.”

Smith then asked what can the general public do to Artest should his guarantee go sour. “We’re going to win,” he answered. “You can do anything you want to do. Whatever you want to do, you do it.”

Bold statements are nothing new for Ron Artest.

When he joined the Lakers in the summer of 2009, Artest famously told Laker fans to blame him should the team fail to repeat as champs. Of course, following his 2010 postseason heroics, he emerged a hero of the people.

What’s in store this time around?

wait ron has done well with the lakers? your kidding right?

  • AMPduppp

Imagine if this actually happens? He’ll have officially made the change from Ron Artest the nutjob to Metta World Peace the prophet

  • http://slamonline.com YKNOT

Only if you find a hot tub time machine and play like you did a few years ago. Champs don’t get hung on a fastbreak dunk like a Grant Hill Sprite commercial!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFYwueh05mM nbk

Weird I want to grow wings and fly Ron, I really really want to, and I can’
t seem to do it. “You can do anything you want to do. Whatever you want to do, you do it.” Oh well, you mean you can say your going to do anything, whether it actually happens is irrelevant, because the season is atleast 3 months from even starting.

  • Yesse

If they do, i doubt Ron will have huge effort involved. If they trade Ron and some other guys, then maybe.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

They will. Their gate is closing and they will win a title this next year. Refocus, 2 out of 4 ain’t bad. Lets make it 3 in 5.

  • @DEKNOWZ

STFU AND GO HAVE A SEAT RON!

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I don’t think nbk really wants to grow wings and fly.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I like Ron on the team. He is a positive. Not that he can’t be a negative, but he is a glue guy. I hope Mike Brown is willing to mess around with his rotation a little bit. I wouldn’t mind seeing LO at small forward more. Wouldn’t mind seeing no PG at times unless they upgrade PG’s. Which is by far what is most needed. Lakers have a versitile team why not utilize it.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

If Barcelona can play nine midfielders and win 5-0, the Lakers must be able to go stretches with Kobe at the “1″, and LO handling the ball.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFYwueh05mM nbk

Yeah I do man. wth, why wouldn’t I? And Lakeshow, are you crazy? lol Lamar plays the 4 because he can’t guard 3′s. And that is also the same reason Kobe never plays the 1, because he can’t guard them anymore. If you wanna win a title I don’t think playin guys out of position is going to help.

  • bull22

and i guarantee this, that ron artest and his team, laker fans and the lake (lame) show will all be eating schtick next year because there won’t be a title… that you can positively deposit in the bank!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Yes, I’m crazy, yes certain teams(dallas) you can run a big line up. I ain’t worried about Shawn Marion goping off on LO at the 3. Theres a few teams where it would be a good strategy nbk. They need a new Pg is the main thing. I really hope they grab some scrub that can play D at the 1. LO can guard allot of 3 especially when he’s forcing them into Bynum and Gasol.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFYwueh05mM nbk

Ok, a few things, Caron Butler is normally Dallas’ 3, and Lamar cannot stay infront of him. Also, having Lamar in with Pau and Bynum? What happens when they get tired? Foul Trouble? and they can’t add anyone that cost more then the minimum, so good luck finding a serviceable PG that is good enough to play minutes on a championship roster. The best thing LA can do to improve is trade Bynum, Gasol, or Odom. Other then that they will be worse then last season.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

bull22 lemme know when your boys get outta the east finals. holla. hahahahahahahahahahhahaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahaha see how many times i’m laughing!!! ahahhahahahhahahahahahahaa. aahahhahhaahahahahaahahhahhahhahahahahahahahahshduiagifnedspiongdaroinsaahahahahahahahahuahdishsuhuaahhahhahahhaahhaah

  • http://slamonline.com Neitel

The Heat will rise, choose your words careful metta, or you will have to eat them…like Bruce Lee did to some japanesse guy in a movie, he made him eat a big azz paper full of the words the japanesse guy talked and couldn’t back up, and at the same time he couldn’t swallowed them.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Really Caron plays the 3 for them? weird.. didn’t know that. Really didnt realize. Ya that would be stupid then lol. Naw I think the PG would make it easier to win the chip, but I have faith in the crew we got right now.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    Laugh it up now, LakeShow.
Kobe’s getting old and Rose is only gonna get better.
    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA….ok my fingers hurt now…

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFYwueh05mM nbk

That’s good that you have faith, I kinda wish I was able to be a fan like that too be honest. And I can see LA winning the title, but only if they make a trade of one of the aforementioned 3 guys, a Lamar Odom for (this is just a trade i’m makin up off the top of my head, idk if salaries work, and age is obviously an issue i’m ignoring) Andre Miller and Al Harrington. Obviously this isn’t a best case scenario trade or anything, but it would allow LA to retain much of its flexibility and will add an efficient PG who can contribute and play atleast decent defense.

  • chingy

LA’s window is closing but doesn’t mean they can’t win the chip. They’re one of maybe 5 teams with a legit shot.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Agree to something like that trade nbk, that would be slick, but I love LO and i’m down to litterally ride it out with this crew. If they can’t do it they can’t do it. I fell like they are at 1 more year with this same team where they can win it. Not the favorites, but can win it. Season after next they will need to upgradejah in a couple places with-outta-doubt. Faith is a weird thing man. I believe in Divine Creation yet have no proof to back that up, but it is as real to me as anything else is.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Enig, just wait till M Kup swings a trade for D-Rose then we’ll see whats so funny!!

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Chingy I agree man. 1 of 5 teams with a shot. (Bulls/Heat/Dallas/Lakers/Thunder)

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

If there’s a shorten season due to the Lockout like in 99, I see that hurting the older teams more (LA, Bos, Dal) because there’s going to be more back-to-backs and even 3-4 games in a row. Doesn’t mean that those teams aren’t going to win a chip but it makes it harder on old bones

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Nah, I think Rose might rather play for the Clippers.
    Vinny’s his old coach.
    EJ’s his old AAU homie.
Blake’s his old McDonalds AA homie.
Although he really looks up to Kobe.
Just don’t expect me to jump on any LA bandwagon if either of those scenarios happens.
I ride or die with Chicago.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

I see spiritual faith, and faith in a skill or team with a specialized skill to be completely unrelated. I have unwavering faith in my god, but no faith in any sports team

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Derrick Rose will be a Bull Forever unless he’s a veteran chasing rings

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I’m not convinced. People always said that about LeBron and Cleveland too.

  • Wray

I seem to remember the last time a player guaranteed a world title (and more), it didn’t exactly pan out as well as they’d hoped. That said, and as much as this pains me to say this because I despise LA and like Enigmatic I live and die by Chicago, Mike Brown has taken a depleted roster to the finals before. Seems logical with a team like he’s taken over now, he might be able to do the same this year.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Man Enig, that would be embarrassing for you to just jump ship on your team the Bulls and start rooting for one you have never had any ties with. Completely unrelated topics, nbk, but same concept. I see the skills these guys have and it doesn’t matter if everyone says they are to old to get it done. I have faith that they can get it done. Just like I have faith the God created the universe.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Cleveland and Chicago could not be any more different as sports cities. Rose gonna get everything he could ask for in Chicago and wont ever have to worry about his team not being able to attract free agents.

  • chingy

Lakeshow, that’s my five too. I do’nt think Boston has it in them anymore. Neither do the Spurs. Both are two years removed from the convo.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I wouldn’t be ‘shocked’ If the Celts pulled something out of their hat, but thats the slimmest of chances. They are still a dammn scary team when they are clicking on all cylinders. Not putting them as a favorite, but a dark horse.

  • http://cnbc.com New_Guy

Thunder are gonna be crazy good the next 10 years if they all develop and stay healthy and the front office keeps bringing the right people in. I have followed seattle/okc my whole life and I think this could be the best team they have ever put together

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

New_Guy with the not so new news. Thanks bro, we were wondering if they could be good if everything goes perfect.

  • http://Www.slamonline.cOm Jay

What do yall think about Allen Iverson joining the Lakers? Sixth man

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Why does the FNG have the same CNBC link as JTaylor when his name’s clicked?

  • http://Nba.com GP23

I believe the Knicks will be a force in the next 5 years.

  • http://Nba.com GP23

@jay… AI should start for the Lakers. He is a better point guard than fisher.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

NBK is the same guy who said the Mavericks had no shot at winning the title or beat Miami. It’s one thing to express your opinion but its another to act as if your opinion is law and constantly say what is not possible without any realistic reasoning.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Lol when did i say that?

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

That not true Kap. nbk, said the Mavs had a shot.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I believe the Heat will be a force in the next 5 years.

  • chingy

For Boston to win, Rondo would have to play at a near-MVP level imo.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Like, all 5 of the next 5 years. lol

  • chingy

You can count on this for Boston: KG will give you the fist pumps and top notch defense; Ray ray to have the wettest jumper; PP to bring the slashing/getting to the free throw line/wheel chair game. It’s Rondo who is the barometer of the team. If he’s dishing 15-20 assists, 6-8 boards, 10-15 points, Boston can win it.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Yeah it is all about Rondo. We’ll see what the little guys got with his team counting on him completely this next year. We’ll see if all those poepl who claim he is a top 5 PG are right. Enig, your bold man. Bold. I believe the Memphis Grizzlies can make the Playoffs next year!

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

That Bron fella for the Heat is pretty good.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Alright, the one team I REALLY wanna say can become a force in the next five years is the Clippers.
    But Del Negro’s their coach.
    And Sterling’s their owner.
    So…NAHHHH.

  • chingy

Speaking of the Griz, they will be a 4-5 seed. Thunder, Lakers, Dallas, Memphis/Spurs, Blazers as top 6. And Clippers, Nuggets, Rockets, and Hornets fighting for last two spots.

  • chingy

Enig, Clip has a nice team. The Eric Gordon/Blake combo is probably the most promising 1-2 punch in the L next to OKC’s tandem.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Yeah, and Bledsoe and Aminu have a lot of potential too.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Does Aminu have potential? I struggle to see it lol. Naw he’s alright, but I just don’t think he’ll ever be anything more than glue.

  • chingy

Every championship team needs a glue guy. Aminu can be that. Bledsoe is explosive and they should let him take over PG duties from Mo ASAP to speed up his development.

  • http://slamonline.com Sergio

The Lakers lost against the world champs. Why is it so hard to imagine that if they modify their team a little and change their game plan they can win it all? I just hope there is a season. This lockout sux.

  • chingy

^ Who said its so hard to imagine?

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Aminu best case scenario IMO is Luol Deng. He has the potential to be an even better defender and shooter, but Deng has that mental edge.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

A few people the last few weeks have been claiming the demise of the Lakers Chingy. As far as Aminu, the thing is you usually don’t develope a glue guy. He’s going to want his money and the Clips ain’t gunna give him that. Or maybe they will give it to Aminu thinking he will be a star, and they will get rid of EJ and Bledsoe cause they are that stupid lol.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

At this point nbk, I think dude is as good defensively(and thats saying something cause Deng is great on D) But his shot looked weird as hell. It went in at an okay rate, but I don’t think he’s ever gunna be ‘go to’ material on offense at all. If he is able to stay he could be a nice fit. I’m just afraid the Clips will ruin dude in some way.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

I think Dwight will be a force over the next 5 years.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Well I agree Lake, but Deng isnt a go-to guy either. And Aminu has more range, (i’ve done this twice saying a better shooter is someone with more range when really thats not wht i meant) but idk if I ever see him developing a mid range game like Deng has

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    Dwight’s pretty good

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    Deng’s mid-range J is nasty.
    I see the similarities though.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Dwight might turn into a decent rim protector at best. Deng has a top 5 mid range J of any wing guard maybe? Dude nails that ish like it’s a layup. Aminu has the range though. I’d bet money on Deng going down as a better player all said and done, but thats an early assessment. Deng is a 3rd option ‘Go to’ guy imo. He can slash, shoot. He’s just not great at creating space. He took LeBron to school a few times in the playoffs though. Thats the Bulls problem is they have a PG as their Number 1 option followed by two 3rd option guys. Good call on the Deng comparison though. He seems most like him than anyone else.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Deng is definitely not a go to guy at the NBA level. He is a go to guy right now for team GB, and he is playing admirably, but his skill set and dribble moves are suited for a great role player.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Has everyone forgotten the ’06-’07 postseason when Deng WAS the go-to guy for the Bulls and averaged 22 and 9 in the playoffs, including a four game sweep of the defending champs in which he averaged 26 and 9?
Injuries robbed him of the chance to capitalize off that momentum the following season, and then the season after that he still struggled with injuries plus trying to find his role on a team that by then included this kid named Derrick Rose.
Not saying he should be labeled a superstar, but Deng could hold his own as the go-to guy on an NBA squad, imo, cause he’s done it before.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

But yes, he does work best as your second or third option.
I’m just saying he could be a first option if needed.

  • stayweird38

The bulls and the knicks gonna be In the east finals for a while.. that is If the knicks play some defense!! And they get a real center and a back up pg or get Chris Paul already and have billups back him up! aha gho bulls! Go melo! I can’t wait to see melo and drose get a rings before lebron and bosh!

So is anyone willing to put money on this? That drose or melo will get a ring before lebron? Anyone??? Or are all u haters just gonna talk ish and live I. Your moms house forever??

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Yeah I see Deng as Aminu’s ceiling. Bledsoe though, he’s got a chance to be really good. Huge wingspan, good touch, top of the heap athletically, and crazy speed. And most of his major issues usually solved with maturity. Mainly staying under control, changing pace, and shot selection. Defensively he’s gonna be real good eventually, I see him as a Lindsey Hunter type defender

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Bron will win one before Melo, that’s for sure.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Toss up between Bron and Rose, but Bron has the edge there too.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    Yeah, Soop.
Most cats tuned into Clips games to see what Blake might do.
I tuned in for that, and also to see what Bledsoe might do.
Also to see if EJ might go off, if he was playing.
Oh, and to curse at VDN.
But Bledsoe really intrigues me. Anyone who can swat a LeBron James shot and make it look easy has gotta have some crazy athleticism.
I think defensively he can be Rajon Rondo, though he’ll never average Rondo numbers.

  • chingy

    Knicks fans are funny.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Matic a few postseason games is a lot different then holding down the go-to guy spot for 82 games + playoffs. The level of gameplanning for him would have been quite different. But you could be right he did kill that year, my question cuz i dont remember is what Offense were the bulls running? Was it a lot of running Deng and Gordon off screens? Or was it that pick+drive+kick offense that they used ad nauseum once VDN took over? Deng is one hell of a catch and shoot player especially from mid range kinda like a small forward Kevin Martin, would you consider him a viable first option if you wanted to win more then you lose?

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Whoa Enigmatic, slow your roll. Deng is a great second/third option but he doesn’t have the skill-set to be a go-to guy. If you believe he is then answer this question; can he be the go-to guy for the Cavs or Sota and carry them to 35-40 wins?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

If Deng was traded for Beasley…I could conceivably see the Wolves winning 35 games, yeah.
And if not, hey, sh*tty teams have go-to guys too don’t they?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

And Deng on the Cavs would’ve probably meant 5 more wins.
But a 24-58 record is still horrible.

  • http://dfklf.com Jukai

Deng could be a go-to guy. Michael Redd was a go-to guy. You wont get many wis, but Deng has the abilities to do it.

  • stayweird38

I’m not a knicks fan! I’m a CHICAGO BULLS FAN I’m just also a melo fan and I think If the knicks figured it out they could beat the heat.. melo ALWAYS outplays lebron when they play trust me I know

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

That’s all I’m saying, like Jukai said. A go-to guy on a contender?
    Deng can’t do that.
But a go-to guy? On a team that could acheive moderate success?
    He can do that.
@Stayweird – so you were one of the cats begging the Bulls to get Melo last year huh?

  • brandon

wait is this a good thing?

  • stayweird38

Yes sir! I was @ enigmatic. Such a perfect fit that would of been for my bulls and melo :( my 2 fav players on the same team! It sucks!! I know they would have beat the heat if melo would have been on the bulls this season!! F@$kk

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    I disagree.
Getting Melo woulda meant losing probably some combination of Noah, Taj, Deng, Asik and multiple picks.
    Maybe even all of them.
Wouldn’t have had enough left over to even meet up w/ the Heat, much less beat them.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Melo would have just gotten in Rose’s way anyway with his ballstopping offense

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

And Melo and Boozer on the same team?
No more Deng, Noah, Taj, Asik?
From first to worst on defense!

Ron needs to put down his metta world peace pipe. No trades, no titles for the Lakers. As much as I hate admitting this, the Heat will have the league on lock once they learn how to play together.

LISTEN EVRY1, if JR “SWISH” SMITH JOINS EITHER CHICAGO OR LA FAKE SHOW, THEY WILL WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
JR IS A BETTER FIT FOR CHICAGO AS THEY NEED MORE SCORING AND SOMEONE WHO CAN CREATE OFF THE DRIBBLE AS SUPPOSED TO KEITH BOGANS OR KYLE KORVER.
JR WILL BRING YU HYPE AND HUSTLE. NOW IF SWISH JOINS LA, WELL LETS JUS SAY THEN AS FATE HAS IT HE WILL TURN INTO KOBES LIL PUPPET. BUT THE POTENTIAL IS LIMITLESS WITH THIS DUDE, on a smaller note, i hate the lakers and ron ron jus talks out of his a**hole.
