Dirk Nowitzki Not Allowed to Throw Out First Pitch in the World Series

Well, that’s just not cool, Major League Baseball. Not cool at all. According to ESPN, the Texas Rangers were denied in their attempt to have Dirk Nowitzki throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to one of their home World Series games: “The Texas Rangers nominated Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki to throw out a first pitch before one of their home games in the World Series, but sources with knowledge of the team’s plans say that the recommendation has been nixed by Major League Baseball. Unlike regular-season games, all first-pitch assignments in the World Series have to be approved from a list of candidates by the league office. Sources told ESPNDallas.com that — with the NBA in the midst of a lockout that has spanned 111 days — at least some hesitation stems from the idea that MLB executives want to stand behind their basketball counterparts and have notified the Rangers that they can’t bestow first-pitch honors on an NBA player. Major League Baseball insists that the NBA’s labor unrest had no impact on Nowitzki not being selected to throw out the first pitch.”

*I meant the MLB, not the two peeps that posted before me.
    I agree, baseball sucks.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Baseball is a good sport when you understand the ins and outs of the game. So no, it doesn’t suck. I much rather have my kid play in the MLB than in the NBA or NFL because those guys make the most money while exerting the least amount of stress on their body.

  • LA Huey

@JTaylor, I know what you’re saying but I’d much rather have my kid play in the NBA over MLB. It would suck so hard to have to go watch baseball games in support of my kid.
    Baseball sucks for life.

  • http://www.tampax.com doyouwantmore

Yep, Baseball sucks big time. It’s like watching math played as a sport.

  • DieselMechanic

    that’s racist

  • http://gmail.com z

hmm are the yankees playing in the world series? No? then it’s not worth watching anyway.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

@JTaylor, I don’t watch a lot of baseball but in regards to your “least amount of stress on their body,” It’s no secret how they also look like they’re the least in shape.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Exactly, all they do is stand around, chewing tobacco or sun flower seeds waiting for a ball to be hit towards them or for their at-bat and the pitchers take the mound once every 4-5days. It’s a tough sport to master but talk about the good life

  • aotearaw

    Cricket >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Baseball

    Owners are racist against players?

JTaylor: Well, aren’t you worried about what effects the steroids will have on your kid?

  • MikeC.

Baseball players kill birds. PETA-watch yo!

Jukai, good one. Who needs steroids when my supreme athletic genes are flowing through his system?

Boooooooooo. I love baseball but this is extremely lame.

  • asgf

so the coaches can punch each other in the face but an the GM doesn’t give one !#$$. But all the sudden NOW they wanna follow the rules?

  • Blakos

    Co-sign aotearaw. Baseball is lame.

Baseball is an awesome sport, especially the Playoffs and World Series. I especially luv it when it goes extra innings. The intensity picks up a notch.
And its always good when the Yankees get eliminated.
As much as I luv today’s game, 90′s baseball was way, way better.

This is the same league that said no to the Mets wearing NYPD and FDNY hats as tribute to the 10th anniversary of 9/11. SMH, MLB couldn’t get it right if their life depended on it. Bud Selig = Douche.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Bud Selig is the worst commissioner in sports. No need for me speak further on that — his record speaks for itself.

  • Heals

I love baseball, but the higher ups are (and will continue to be) living in the Stone Age with regards to media relations…

As much as I hate Bud Selig as commissioner (Winner of the All-Star game gets home field advantage in the Playoffs is the worst idea ever) I can’t say he is the worst. That “honor” goes to Gary Bettman. Bettman has his playoff games, the most important games, on a virtually unknown channel.

  • kantankruz

I just fell asleep when this article mentioned baseball.

  • robb

Baseball doesn’t suck. MLB execs do. First they didn’t allow players to wear NYPD, FDNY hats as a 9/11 tribute, now they deny Dirk. Those idiots think they and their rules are above everything else.

    Eff ‘em and their politricks.
Go flip the coin before the kickoff of the Champions League final Dirkules.
    Bayern Munich, WHATT?!

  • ghettablaster

I find NBA more fast paced and intense than MLB

  • golakeshow

F#@k you MLB. You sons of b#tches would be lucky to have him. PS. Bill Russell is a geek.

  • Saku 39

MLB changed their mind; Dirk is throwing the first pitch for Game 3. The people have spoken.

    The peoples pitcher.

  • BillyJ

I read somewhere that on average, there’s about 9 minutes of action in an actual baseball game.

  • Robb

baseball execs are assh*les for this one, but youre retarded if you think baseball sucks.

  • http://slamonline.com Neitel#2

umm, baseball sucks. and that is my opinion! He was not allowed to throw the first pitch, ’cause the nba players are standing up against the owners, whom Almost all of them have the mentality of dan gilbert (owner of the cleveland cavaliers) Players will stay united even if they cancel the entire season, which i hope they do. Owners want to take control of a billion dollar empire..they couldn’t in 1998, so the owners gave everything to the players, now in 2011, it’s a different story, owners want to control ALL these teenagers, making millions…lucky for these young gunz, we have veterans like Paul Pierce & Derek Fisher to challenge the owners greed.

  • Blakos

No Robb we just realise what a limited game it is.

Betteman sucks big ones, needs to give up on these damn sunshine state teams, aint nobody watching, bring em back to the great white north

but ya Bud sucks, needs to change the MLB playoff format to the future like other leagues screw that 8 team format, make it a 16 team so its not the same damn teams

    MLB sucks not baseball

  • Lan

can this mean a precedence? Does that mean anyone involved in the NBA cannot help promote events in NHL, NFL and MLB?

  • Zabbah

    Baseball sucks balls.

  • King David

i rather watch baseball then watch the NBA media suck off Lebron, God i hate Lebron

  • King David

Bud Selig just said Dirk will throw out the first pitch

Can you believe it, Dirk Nowitzki is not allowed to throw out the First Pitch in the Baseball World Series all due to stupid politics. Really? What ever happen to Sports being above the fray of this kind of political crap.

  • LA Huey

Actually, one thing I’ll give the MLB props for is their playoff format. It means less baseball into the fall.
