Kobe Bryant’s Knee Doctor Claims He Can Cure Arthritis

Kobe’s somewhat controversial knee procedure in Germany — which his pops artfully described as “a 10,000-mile oil change” — was done by a doctor who makes a fairly large claim. From ESPN: “Bryant traveled to Dusseldorf, Germany, in June for treatment, as previously reported. ESPN The Magazine has learned that he was treated by Dr. Peter Wehling, an influential but little-known molecular orthopedist who insists he’s having breakthrough success repairing aging joints by manipulating his patients’ blood. According to a source familiar with Bryant’s treatment, his blood was treated to isolate growth factors that attack inflammation, and then cultured with chemicals to increase their potency before being injected into his arthritic right knee. Wehling declined to confirm or deny that he treated Bryant. But in a rare interview about his work, he told ESPN The Magazine, ‘I am the only one to have found a way to cure arthritis.’ Bryant blamed his ailing knee for causing his minutes and shooting percentage to decrease last season. Although Wehling’s procedure shares some similarity to traditional platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, the physician says he’s achieved a nearly 90 percent success rate by genetically screening his patients to personalize their treatments. His website shows him with his arm around actor Nick Nolte.”

Shame you can’t get any of the best medical treatment in America anymore…

  • JEr dawg

So true. Modern medicine is wack in USA. One needs to take a million pills to control diseases or pain. Drugs mess up internal organs. Eastern medicine is great.

  • Everynowhere

kobe will own all the LONGEVITY accolades!

  • DieselMechanic

The doctor injected Tiger blood into his knee.

  • James cutler

So instead of making billions off something that affects anyone who doesn’t live in a crib, he runs a clinic by referral to vanishingly few ultra high net worth celebrities.

“His website shows him with his arm around actor Nick Nolte.” – about the best co-sign you could get.

    Suspended? Wow, really?
Because this procedure is obviously JUST to help Kobe continue his playing career in the short-term and couldn’t possibly be beneficial to him in any way long-term because no way could this help him enjoy the little things most people tend to take for granted in life like, oh, I don’t know, being able to get up in the mornings without pain and being able to walk without a limp by the time he’s 50-years-old.

lmao ^ hating at its finest

caveman dude don’t be ignorant some diet pills are used to mask steroids. It’s kobe f*cking brynt, do you think he’d put just anything into his body? This guy once put on like 15 lbs over the summer to be able to better shoulder the load he’d have to carry after the shaq trade and then a few years later lost 19 lbs to accomodate his slight decline in athletism and speed. Kobe knows how to take care of his body

  • Chukaz

i need this doctor’s phone number. My pops is like 46 so its a matter of time before he gets hit by arthritis hard

Kobe Bryant is made with bits of real panther. That’s how you know he’s good.

Forget Kobe’s knee. Im more focused on the evolution of Chris Bosh. With Kobe’s health on the decline I envision him droping out of the top tier and Chris Bosh joining the upper eschelon of the NBA’s elite. Its safe to say Chris Bosh will win the MVP award when the lockout ends

  • EJ

    Trade Kobe for Bosh!

  • bike

Just another example of an athlete trying to get another season or two out of a bad knee. Kobe should have stayed away from this guy. Tiger Woods tried this procedure and look where it got him. Knee still gives him problems and all those enriched platelets went straight to his d^ck.

BRoy and Tmac….you know where to go

If this could cure arthritis he wouldn’t be telling people about it like this. He would be famous for actually doing it.

  • robb

@UNFROZEN CAVEMAN LAWYER a caveman you truly are.

  • Jake

NBK, he probably is famous for it….in Germany.

what happened to quinn and clay?

  • http://Slamonline.coM nbk

Yeah OK, this guy can cure Arthritis. I’ll believe it when I see it. If he’s got the cure there is no way you can tell me he’s keeping it a secret. It serves his best interest either way if he spreads the word. It either helps the world or makes him rich(er) (via selling a patent). Selfish or selfless it’s the obvious thing to do….but he’s still the only person that can do it….why?

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

yeah there’s been a mistranslation, you can’t cure arthritis… it’d be cool if you could though… suddenly you’d have a super experienced kobe with YOUNG knees against prime lebron, d.wade, kd and melo. AWESOME

  • RaZkOL

Everyone here is missing the point……It’s f’n Nick Nolte standing with the guy….AWESOME!

  • JRSD

Usual Kobe HATERS are here in this thread. It’s ok when Kobe comes back and wins rings 6 & 7 against the 3 divas down in South Beach you fools will continue to look dumber & dumber. Keep on HATING JTaylor & NBK.Kobe sees and reads a lot of the HATE people postabout him and it just motivates him. Unlike Lebron he takes mental notes and actually does something about it.

  • http://Slamonline.coM nbk

Hating? Lol Kobe is going to cure his own arthritis because I dont believe his Dr and Jtaylor doesnt like him? And the tooth fairy is rollin around with a roll of nickels, you better go to bed

  • Bill Collinsworth

Just a little note for the two at the top, America has the best and the most advanced health care in the world, we can do procedures that other countries can only dream of, but that’s only if you have the money, if you are poor, good luck with American health care.

  • Scott

Please, stop your hating and one eyed opinions. If the Kobe has had the procedure described then he may be in breach of doping policy. It is no different to cyclists blood doping where they remove oxygenated blood then inject it back in at a later date. Im not suggesting the procedure is illegal but if it is performance enhancing then it is not permitted in professional sport (please check NBA drug code). Can of worms opened if allowed as Steriods are used to repair and assist in treating injuries or the like in “general population” yet are also performance enhancing. Until the procedure is investigated and approved it is probably best to heir on the side of caution until such time.
