Mark Jackson: Coaching the Warriors ‘an Assignment from God’


Grantland caught up with the Golden State Warriors’ new head coach, who claims that God sent him to run the team: “Have you been able to devote more time to the ministry because of the lockout? ‘My wife and I are co-pastors at a church in L.A., so it’s really been a blessing for me, being able to be with my wife and kids and being able to be with my church family. Right now I’m sitting in a hospital. My church was hit with tragedy. A mom is fighting for her life upstairs with burns all over her body, and a 9-year-old kid was killed in the crash. The dad called me and, thankfully, I was 30 seconds away and able to be there. It’s extremely tough, but if there’s a season, I’m not there.’ Do you have to put your pastor duties aside once the NBA season starts? ‘I never put it aside. It’s a full-time call. My wife is the co-pastor, and I’m a man of tremendous faith. I believe that me being the head coach of the Golden State Warriors is an assignment from God. I look at it from both positions. The Bible says to whom much is given, much is required. So I don’t believe the pressures on me to perform both positions. Were you able to devote time to being a pastor when you were an analyst for ABC and ESPN? ‘I’ve done it every Sunday for the last two and a half years, with the exception of Sunday games on ABC and when there would be Sunday playoff games.’”

    If there was no religion, humans would still be dealing with oppression, greed, violence, etc.
    Without religion, however, there would be one less INSTITUTION through which oppression manifests itself. But oppression can occur given any institution, really.

    It’s Sunday, and I think some of y’all need to click my name and listen to the teacher, KRS-One’s, “The Truth.” I say listen listen, open up your third eye vision. God is not down with religion. Religion, they be selling it. Listen up, god is intelligent. Reading of the bible is irrelevant. YOU GOTTA LOOK WITHIN YOURSELF NOT A SCRIPTURE. KRS-One comes to rearrange the God picture. IF YOU SIT AND BELIEVE, YOU CAN ACHIEVE! IF YOU SIT AND ACCEPT, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT’S CORRECT OR INCORRECT. Take for instance Adam and Eve. The first two people on the planet, or so you believe. Their first time in heaven kids they had, Cain and Abel. Huh, now let me show you why the story’s unstable. According to the story, according to what you believe there was only Cain, Abel, Adam, and Eve on the whole planet, now use your intellect and tell me, what did Cain and Abel do for sex? Upon the whole planet there was not another. Could it be for sex, heh, they were looking at each other? Hold up! I thought the church wasn’t into that, but wait, still yet, there is another fact. How did the world get populated? Now tell me if I’m wrong, but obviously Eve had it goin on. Think for a minute…I know it gets notorious!

    KRS ONE might want to actually read the Bible before making stupid comments.
    Assuming that there were only four people on the plant is a big fail, as is reading the Bible as an exhaustive account of early mankind.
