Michael Beasley Wants to Become the Timberwolves’ Team Leader

Michael Beasley is undergoing several transformations this offseason – physically and intellectually – and says the next step in his life and career is one where he becomes a leader. From the Star Tribune: “In the end, Michael Beasley’s ‘All Star Classic’ became more of a friends and acquaintances thing. Organizers promoted appearances by Kevin Love, Kevin Durant, John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and other NBA stars, but Friday’s turnout at Osseo High included several of Beasley’s Timberwolves teammates, Golden State’s Dorell Wright, a collection of summer-league players and former WNBA player Tamara Moore in one of those typical 179-170 pickup games won by Team Beasley over the Visitors. … Former Lakers guard Norm Nixon was there to support Beasley, with whom he has worked much of this prolonger NBA summer. … Nixon’s influence can be seen in Beasley’s slimmer and more flexible body. Nixon’s wife is Debbie Allen, the actress, director and famed choreographer who owns an L.A. dance studio and Nixon and Beasley spent time there this summer applying the stretching elements of dance to Beasley’s body. Included one day was a lesson from a prima ballerina with the Bolshoi. … He also has mentored Beasley – who was ticketed for marijuana possession in June and pushed a fan in the face during a streetball game in New York City in August – away from the court. Nixon has pushed Beasley to tighten the circle of people around him. … Beasley said one step to becoming that leader is becoming more active in the community where he plays, and thus Friday night’s game. ‘I feel like we need a leader,’ Beasley said. ‘We’ve got a young talented group and all we need is the right coach and the right floor general… I want to be, I think I can be that guy.’”

B-Eazy is a natural born leader. Right now he currently leads the team in times being arrested.

im rooting for this guy but in order to do this you got to stay out of trouble and keep a level head. I hope he can do that because he has potential.

Lead by example. Two months of no run ins with the law does not make you a leader.

  • bnets

Kevin Love is clearly the leader in that team!

  • riggs

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha….knucklehead.

I think the quote is wrong and the D should have been switched with the L.
Mike Beas wants to become the Timberwolves team dealer.

I’m calling Beasley for break out star of the season. alot of people are going to say wall or maybe even lamrcus or tyreke but i’m saying Beasley is going to be a All-star this upcoming season.

    lol @ max

@Slick Ric – I’m calling James Harden on that one, maybe not an all-star, but a breakout year.
    We shall see though.

CoolBeas could lead the team in a very obscure stat known as PPP: Puffs Per Pass.

if there is no season can I be leader of the Twolves just by saying I am?

I know we crack jokes on Beas, but I really hope he becomes the leader he says he wants to be. It’ll be great to see him turn his image around and become that unstoppable dude he was in college.

I’m pulling for him. Maybe this is a sign of maturity and an admission that he hasn’t lived up to his potential. IF he’s serious about this, he can be a leader. He has a lot of undeveloped potential in his game and IF he keeps his head straight and works hard, you never know…

  • robb

Cheech and Chong would be proud. Keep it up Baryshnikov!

That’s a good call Enig. Harden will have a breakout year, Tyreke will bounce back, Wall will become a legitimate star, and I honestly believe Gil will come back. Maybe not to 29-6, but back to a solid player.

That last run in with the law was strike two for me, one more and he’s out. He’s too talented for me to hate on him, but if he screws up again I’m going to stop caring and call for Derrick Williams to get his minutes. T’Wolves drafting Derrick Williams might just be the best thing for Beasley; they’ve got his replacement just sitting there waiting to usurp him if he slips up, and those two going at it in training would be beneficial for both of them.

K-love wont have any of that B’easy….

  • billg

last i checked Beasley could be the 3rd best forward on his team behind Love and D-Will

I want this kid to do well.

I don’t see K Love as a leader though, he’s probably going to run for LA when his contract expires. Beasley has gone through enough that he won’t take this opportunity for granted.

    but isn’t he already?

  • dahon

Ricky Rubio will lead the team, NBA lockout will be forever

  • naz

lol @ billg, williams is nowhere near as good as beasley. The fact is last season before beasley got injured he was avg almost the same numbers as williams but doing it in the NBA. Plus beasley was way more dominant in college he carried k-state on his back and broke the big12 scoring and rebounds records as a freshmen previously held by his friend kd.

  • Yesse

He can become a good player, but lately he has had attitude problems.

Beasley has the potential to be the nicest player on the T-Wolves. Just sayin.

IMO the team leader should be Brad Miller.. He’s been around for awhile and can teach this young team a thing or two.. (Being team leader doesn’t necessarily mean the ball is in your hands at the end of the game, right?
