Shaquille O’Neal Plans to Own an NBA Team in Newark, New Jersey

In a wide-ranging Q&A with the NY Times, Shaq once again talks about owning a team in his hometown of Newark, NJ. And the big fella throws a nice little jab at New Jersey’s current, but soon-departing hoops team (“The Nets? I don’t know who the Nets are.”): “Q. You’ve talked about owning a team someday. Do you still want to do that? A. ‘Yes. And I’m looking forward to bringing a team to Newark. I haven’t spoken to Mayor Booker about it yet, but I’m working on it. I know Newark can support an N.B.A. team. And I’m going to be one of the guys that’s going to bring a team there.’”

If the Hornets would move to Newark, would there have to be a team in the east that needs to go to the West?

MJ truly is a trendsetter. MJ owns a franchise now everybody (ex- player and celebrity) wants to own one!

I think it’d be a great thing especially when the Net’s finally move to Brooklyn. For those of you who been to a Net’s or Seton Hall Pirates (when they still played there in the past) game knows that East Rutherford is in the middle of nowhere while Newark is very accessible and a lot easier to get to.

Shaq should get his fat ass on the treadmill before he thinks about owning a fu@king team. What a fu#king Bi$ch.

3 teams in NY area works for NHL Rangers Islanders Devils + Bufallo if that counts. I’m sure it’d be fine for NBA

Addressing the question if three teams could manage in such a small area..the amount of people living in that small area is much greater than the three smallest NBA owned cities combined, so if there will be more than enough revenue for all three teams to exist, the problem with teams in the NY area is how difficult it has been to maintain a winning pedigree, starting with a new franchise would be extremely difficult. An already existing, established team with a few solid or big names would work much better.

What Shaq really needs to do is start a show on VH1 called Basketball ex Players. Him Antione Walker, Kenny Anderson, Eddy Curry, Brent and John Barry, and Rex Chapman. That would be a hit. Shaq owning a team is like a crash dummy realizing it is about to crash. Shaq-Fu needs TV time that’s all, he misses the media. BOOK IT!!

So it is written so shall it be done. I think Magic will beat him with a football team first but who else out there could get it done honestly?

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

@The Seed – Seriously, why do you say BOOK IT after every lame thing you say? It doesn’t make it funny or clever. Just give it up.

Ugh, we’ve been trying to tell him that for a long, LONG time now. I guess it’s just his signature. Well, moronic posts are also his signture as well
