Carlos Boozer: Bulls ‘Can Accomplish a Championship’

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Injuries and postseason failure may have ruined his first year in the Windy City, but Carlos Boozer sounds like he’s all fired up for this upcoming season.

Boozer promises Chicago Bulls fans and media that he’ll be a much better player this time around, going so far as to claim that the team will be good enough to win a title.

From the Chicago Tribune:

Boozer, maligned throughout the Bulls’ run to the Eastern Conference finals last season as he battled turf toe, has heard the criticism. And in a phone conversation from his offseason home in Miami on Tuesday, the former All-Star basically said bring it on. “It motivates me,” Boozer said. “First of all, I have high expectations for myself. I’m going to play a lot better than I played last season. The injury with the hand (in training camp) set me back. Then I thought I played well for a month or two. And then I had more injuries. A lot of things happened … I don’t look at criticism as a down thing or negative thing. I look at it as a challenge. That’s what athletes do: We challenge ourselves. I look forward to quieting the haters and helping my team win. That’s the most important thing.”

“I think we can accomplish a championship,” Boozer said. “I think we have the talent and the leadership in place. The experience of last year’s playoff run and the season we had has prepared us. A championship is the next step in our progression. Don’t get me wrong: There’s a lot of work to be done. We need to get in the lab and get to work. But if you ask anybody in that locker room, we have a championship-caliber team.”

Despite their bravado, no one outside of the Bulls’ locker room considers Chicago to be a true title contender.

Without a respectable option at the shooting guard spot, they don’t have enough offensive firepower to compliment Derrick Rose and truly challenge the League’s superpowers.

But, hey, what do I know? The players in Chicago seem to believe otherwise. And they’ll have plenty of opportunities this season to prove us all wrong.

  • jayrose

I agree with boozer… This is bulls year!!! MVP ready to take it to the next level…. FINALS MVP!!!!

  • Jono

Can win and will win are very different Carlos. The Charlotte Bobcats can win it too, but probably won’t.

  • http://nba.com GP23

Will make the ECF definately (if they aint in the same bracket as the Heat). Rose, Boozer, Deng and Noah are the key pieces to this team. I think the Bulls may need a solid SG to really take them to the next level, i.e. beating the Heat. Jamal Crawford anyone??

  • http://nba.com Ryan

    Marcel,

“Despite their bravado, no one outside of the Bulls’ locker room considers Chicago to be a true title contender.

Without a respectable option at the shooting guard spot, they don’t have enough offensive firepower to compliment Derrick Rose and truly challenge the League’s superpowers.”

League MVP, best record in the league, deepest bench, and they aren’t in the league’s super powers? You’re still considering the Celts, and the Lakers as “Super powers”? That is the most arbatrary statement i’ve heard in a while.

  • http://slamonline.com YKnoT

Maybe they can wait for March to claim JR Smith from China to fill that void.

  • JLP

CAN win indeed. But won’t if Carlos doesn’t become a bit more tough.

  • AD

if derrick rose had the passing ability of deron williams, than hell yea but… as of now they need to get another scorer

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

Jono what an unnecessary shot at my Bobcats lol

  • KJackson

i laugh win people say Derrick cant pass. thats ridiculous. They are so blinded by it because hes an elite scorer that they dont understand that a u can be an elite scorer and a distrubutor at the same time.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

The bulls can win a championship if they trade Carlos (break my hand over a gymbag) Boozer.
yeah they probably can at some point.

  • Matt

You obviously know very little if you don’t consider the Bulls among the “League’s superpowers.” They beat every team in the League last year, won more regular season games than anyone else, and made it to the final four. Oh yeah, they swept the Heat in the regular season. Who is it, exactly you consider to be League’s superpowers then ?

  • http://www.slamonline.com UNFROZEN CAVEMAN LAWYER

UNLESS THEY MAKE A SERIOUS ROSTER IMPROVEMENT, I DONT SEE HOW THEY CAN BE BETTER THAN LAST SEASON. THEIR RECORD WAS FAKE. LIKE BRONS CAVS RECORDS WERE FAKE. ITS NICE TO BEAT UP ON THE WORST TEAMS MORE OFTEN THAN EVERYONE ELSE.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

    All That Chicago Jazz!

please carlos boozer, DO NOT start with that miami heat cancer swagger..
win a title first like the mavericks did and then run your mouth..

@bull22….Too late!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!! Watch your mouths or you might get swept this time.

  • Jono

    @BETCATS my bad lol

  • bull22

the bulls are a championship contender along with the heat and celtics and orlando as long as they have d12. everyone else in east is just playing for a playoff spot.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

Bulls need a two gaurd and Boozer to at least play more consistently on the offensive end. If he’s not going to defend then we need at least 15 to 20 from him every night.

  • Ballislove

    Boozer looks like Common

  • LA Huey

It’s not necessarily their SG spot that’s the problem, it’s that Boozer consistently fades against elite PFs and defenses. They’d actually be in good shape if he was performing like Bosh was against CHI.

  • robb

Not if you keep getting injured and playing soft you big baby

  • http://averysmith.org Avery Smith

nverson said the same thing to Stephen A. On Quite Frankly when the Sixers got Chris Webber. You can’t feed into this talk.

Before I even attempt to go in, I need to see if my comments are posting.
    Testing, testing, 1, 2….

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Well, I’d much rather this sh*t come from Rose.
Humble or not, whatever you believe, I’d rather this come from a dude you know is gonna back up his talk, cause all the sh*t Booz is saying now is basically the same sh*t he was saying prior to last season.
And then he went out with a thud like he was jumping out the ESPN RV again looking for that hot sauce.
This dude is good when he’s on, but mostly he’s soft like a Bosh.
How in the hell you gonna talk sh*t when you the dude that missed the first month of the season after you done “tripped over a gym bag” last season?
How in the hell you gonna talk sh*t when you the dude that let yourself get punked the F out by Chris Bosh, to the tune of him dropping 23.2 per on you, compared to your 14.4?
How in the hell you gonna talk sh*t when you the dude who’s last game’s stat line reads “5 points, 6 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 16% FG shooting”?
Boozer needs to take a cue from that Big Ghostfase joint and realize he’s a backseat dude, and he’s trying to play with the knobs in the front speaking all this nonsense. SMH
    “EYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!”

  • MUBWAR

ohhh boozer. those fake muscles ain’t bringing you anywhere.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Rose has already said he believed he was going to win ‘championships’ in his career. I really hope we cna get a good SG, getting Brandon Roy, and then hoping that he would actually be healthy would be a dream but unrealistic, so hopefully they cna get JRich. BTW don’t forget about Jimmy Butler, I expect solid things from him. Similair to Taj’s rookie season.

  • DS44

    Enigmatic said it best!

  • Red

He’s saying all these things because of the amnesty clause he wants the Bulls to think he’ll deliver. The Amnesty clause will screw Boozer over. I hope the Bulls make a smart move and use it on this bum. He’s 30 and declining, Gibson is just as good if not better and u can pick up a good 2 guard. Be smart Bulls.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

They can but it all depends on DRose. If he finds a way to score efficiently while guarded by Bron/Wade, the Bulls have a great chance at beating the Heat. The Bulls were in every ECF game vs the Heat and if Rose played like he did during the RS (or came close), the Bulls win that matchup. So I don’t understand why people act like he’s surrounded by a bunch of bums. CHI had the best bench, best defense, best new coach, and best homecourt-advantage, that sounds like a recipe to winning a chip to me.

  • AQWORD

I think Enigmatic needs to take B.C. job at SLAM. vOTE yES IF YOU DON’T . :-)

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

    Can Unfrozen become Uncapped now?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Yes, the Bulls have alot of the pieces to be a great team, but who’s their reliable 2nd scorer? Deng can be at times, but not consistently, I don’t see a Boozer as a big time help, because a) he’s injured alot and b) he’s a cheerleader for Derrick Rose pretending to be a undersized PF with no defensive skills.

  • Red

But Boozer didn’t show up..that was the key because Rose was getting double teamed left & right, our guys didn’t show up at that time. But we simply need to gel better this year & I feel we will. We should get a guy like Crawford or JRich who will be good teammates not Someone like JR Smith

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Boozer never shows up in the playoffs. It doesn’t matter if they get JCraw, JRSmith or OJ Mayo, they won’t win a chips with Rose shooting 35%.

  • dahon

yeaaaa. if they trade you for gasol man….hes too small to play the 4…

  • Red

Rose is no problem never will be, he’s one of the top 3 players in the league.

  • Soulquarian

Boozer will play better this year. Bulls need to add a SG that plays both sides of the court, while still maintaining cap flexibility to make a run at Dwight. To beat Miami, we need another scorer to space the floor for both Rose and Boozer. Korver was too much of a liability against Miami and Brewer (while playing incredible D) just isn’t the offensive threat to make Miami play honest. A solid SG will make life easier for both Boozer and Rose. But at the end of the day I want Dwight, not Booz.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Why do bulls fans take everything that’s said about Rose as hate. I never said he wasn’t a great player (Top-3 he’s not) but you can not expect to beat the Heat with your best player shooting 35% from the field.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys6VpgI9BHA datkid

no last years was the bulls year…. miami has become far too cohesive and confident for them to be beaten by the bulls now. and while a second scorer would be nice it still probably won’t be enough. and GOD HELP the bulls if miami get’s nene (dalembert would be a worse option but would still make the heat scary) and shane battier/grant hill like it looks like they might be able too…

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys6VpgI9BHA datkid

and for the record kjackson rose can pass… but he’s nowhere good a passer as say cp3, d.will,j.kidd, steve nash, rondo, … he’s decent but he’s far from elite.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Miami far too cohesive and confident?
Yo, they crumbled under the pressure last year, how are they confident now?
The Bulls can beat the Heat, don’t act like every single game they played last year minus game 1 of the ECF weren’t close games.
And also don’t act like Rose’s game has capped cause the kid is still only 23. The kid will improve.
Plus he was top ten in the NBA in assists, I know the cats you mentioned are much better passers, but some of y’all act like Rose should be wearing number 7 and change his name to Gordon.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I feel like this only seems right…….Enig….are you referencing the Bulls as the team that crumbled, cause let’s be really real….the Heat embarrassed them in the ECF’s. All that bullsh8tting your boys were doing after Taj caught Dwyane, you would have thought they won the series at that moment. The Heat are only going to be better with full seasons of Haslem and Miller and whoever they add that don’t come from Jurrasic Park. Unless the Bulls add a viable, perimeter scoring option, they won’t be better than they were last year. The Bulls had an incredible season. But the books out on them. Unless everyone else remembers how mucch they struggled against the Pacers in the first round too.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    Cosign Eboy

  • fish sticks

cmon slam wheres my post? Anyone else think this amnesty clause is gonna f*** wit players? Just my opinion, but wouldnt it suck to have a 4 year contract, heavily loaded towards the final year, and then get waived and lose like 10 mill? Ah well. Booz is just tryin to avoid that fate. I’m sure if a decent pf was on the market the bulls wouldn’t hesitate. Thats what happens when Chris Bosh out-mans you. And for all y’all talkin bout the bulls beating the Heat… Sure they swept the regular season. Which counts for what exactly? Maybe the ECF games were close, but it was obvious one team had all the answers. As much as i dont really care for Bosh, it was fun seeing him destroy anyone Chi threw at him (including that sh** talking Taj)

  • http://www.facebook.com/gametimeweezy Gametimeweezy

Funny how things change in one year Boozer was a the best thing since sliced bread last year. Now D Rose wins MVP and Boozer is trash? It didn;t soundlike he was talking ish… it sounded like he’s getting ready to be a locker room leader on a very strong Bulls team and thats a bad thing? Psyching himself up for a run at the title maybe if D Rose wants to take the next step in his career HE will learn some of these leadership qualities Boozer is displaying… even if Bosh did kill him in last years playoffs.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The Amnesty is a buy-out basically. Players that get amnestied get a huge paycheck in one lump sum.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I miss Lang’s 15 lbs of Muscle Watch. I know Bosh has put some weight back on and doesn’t look like the gangly b*tch he looked like all throughout last season. Now maybe he can wear the Predator dread wig and live up to his RuPaul nickname.

  • fish sticks

    ^thanks nbk. that makes sense.

  • Brahsef

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

E – Bulls crumbled in the ECF, Heat crumbled in the finals. They both crumbled. We root for some cookie-a** teams, yo.
I think they’ll both be better. A full season of Haslem will no doubt make the Heat better, but a less injury-riddled Bulls team will also make them better.
I’m not saying the Bulls are gonna improve on their 60 wins, but they should be a better team as well.
And they are capable of beating the Heat.
If Boozer can hide his skirt for a full series, and Rose can overcome the 6’8”, “20-pounds shy of Shaq’s weight” monster that is LeBron when he Ds him up, and the rest of the supporting cast can step up, we’ll be aight.
    We’ll see tho.
And I agree with Booz, they can contend for a title, regardless of what Mutoni thinks (does anyone besides Lakers fans think THEY’RE a threat?)
But I don’t like how he’s talking about how he’s gonna do this or that.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    No problem.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I fully think Chicago adds a 2-guard that can score from the perimeter before the trade deadline (who is going to get Amnestied?) if not before the season. But until that happens I don’t see them beating the Heat.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I mean, the Laker stans are always going to be ignorant, so there’s that.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I don’t know. The Heat are still unknowns. We don’t know how they will play. We don’t know how much better D-Rose will be. Deng is a great defender on Bron. Bulls defense is better than the Heats.
A scoring 2 guard is what they need to be much more solid scoring wise, but if Rose is improved he might be able to find his groove and learn how to beat the Heats defense. If I had to put money on today’s teams playing each other… Heat edges out bulls in 6 or 7. BUT, in no way would I be surprised to see the Bulls beat anyone in the East.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I gotta give props where props are due, I thought the Bulls were the best defensive team in the L last season, but during the ECF, I thought the Heat’s defense was a thing of beauty.
As a fan of great defense, I couldn’t help but say “damn, that’s some good a** D!”
I wouldn’t even be surprised if Thibs got a hard on after watching game tape of that Miami defense in that series.

Hey, Bulls fans. Afflalo or J-Rich? I think Afflalo would be better for you. Better defender and younger legs.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Nuggets going to resign Afflalo probably. Caron Butler is likely going to be had for the Mid-Level though. He is looking like a real possibility in Chi.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Afflalo has long been my top choice but Nuggets lost Smith, K-Mart, Chandler and bout to lose Nene.
Don’t know if they’d give up Afflalo that easily.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

They cancelled Mario Chalmers Charity Game.

  • fish sticks

Honestly i think Mayo would be the best fit… Grizz aren’t gonna be able to afford him, and honestly I think he’s a decent defender/offensive player who can create for himself, and would also thrive playing with Rose

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I knew about that since Monday. Sucks. Was looking forward to see Rio, Boozer, Bosh and… Oh, who am I kidding?
I’m mostly upset I won’t get to see John Wall and James Harden.
But I’d much rather have an NBA season an I can always catch some NBA action when I go back home to the Chi.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I still haven’t really got a sure answer yet on why Boozer is such a bad player, injuries, yea I get. Defensive lapses, yea I get that too, even though he would still fit on a team that plays so much help defense. Maybe because he’s not a shot blocker and D Rose isn’t exactly a defensive stopper himself. Like I said when he’s healthy he’s productive.

My bad Airs didn’t realize it screwed the names up, apologies, that was me.

  • Ses

I see alot of non believers. These are the same bulls that were the best in the league last year. 62-20 doesn’t lie especially 3 – 0 (regular season) against the so called EC champions. We came up short for 2 reasons, a solid SG and boozer’s terrible defense (the heat PF’s had a field day every game!). If these adjustments are made then June parade here we come! D.Rose 4 MVP again haters!

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

You’re confusing me and probably confusing yourself as well.
This whole thing popped off cause airs said Boozer was the free agent nobody wanted, you asked why, we proceeded to tell you.
So how the hell did you go from asking why we didn’t want Boozer to saying he’s not the reason the Bulls lost to the Heat?
    Did I miss something?
Who the f*ck said Boozer was solely to blame for the loss to the Heat?
And what in the hell does this have to do with Dwyane Wade?
I didn’t see Dwyane Wade out there against the Bulls when Boozer had 2 points and 5 rebounds in the series clincher against the Hawks.
You putting words in my comment box, b.
I’m trying to tell you why Boozer ain’t the future hall of famer you act like he is, and you trying to tell me to stop blaming him for the conference finals loss?
    Huh?

  • http://bulls.com airs

    all good red, no biggie.
and boozer wasn’t even that good in the reg season!
i expect 20 and 10 from him this season, and to disappear somewhere around april..
or may…or june..or however this screwed up season ends up.

The bulls aren’t that far from being a perennial ecf team.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Wade avg. 18ppg on 38% shooting vs the Bulls, so the Bulls did a good job “holding” him. DRose and Wade basically canceled each other out, so that left Bron/Bosh vs Deng/Boozer. Miami won that matchup in resounding fashion and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

  • shutupallenp

@Enigmatic -Why does it sound stupid to put a scoring first pass second guard at the 2, it worked for iverson, and Derrick rose is bigger and has more hops than Iverson had, name a team with a score first pg that reached long term success? I’ll wait….

  • Red

Last I check Bron was guarding Rose too JT but apparently either you’re an idiot or you have bad memory.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

The Pistons Isaiah Thomas & Chauncey Billups. The Spurs with Tony Parker. – Derrick Rose has been a PG since he started playing basketball, it is clearly his most effective position. And he is a PG, he wouldn’t know what to do playing primarily off the ball. Iverson had to play with a PG with a SG body, who could play off the ball. Essentially he played PG, but he had the vast majority of the teams plays run for him where he started without the ball in his hands basically there is no benefit to taking Rose off the ball, even if you dot like how much he shoots, plus with him next to a PG you lose the size advantage that you have almost every game at the guard positions just because you want someone worse making “better” decisions.

if Chi town can get another scorer to take some pressure off of Rose THEN they will have a legit chance

  • BBaller

Boozer should concentrate on accomplishing an injury free season. What’s to say he doesn’t get injured again? The Bulls are my favorite team in the East, why oh why did they sign this undersized, injury prone Loozer.

  • BBaller

Against Miami it was 1v5 on offense, the 1 being Rose. Noah and Deng did well on D but they must sign some other scoring options eg Brandon ROY,JRich,JR Smith, J Crawford and to a lesser extent V Carter, Iverson, or even less G Arenas.I give them no chance otherwise.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gametimeweezy Gametimeweezy

@Enigmatic and AIRS love the comments guys keep it up… but no I was just reading a lot of hate directed toward Boozer before and I was wondering why (if it was justified) and then you answered Enigmatic (does that rhyme with Arithmetic? anyways) and it sounded like you were blaming him when you said “career shrink in playoffs machine” (that was funny post)… but other than that nah I get it Bosh killed him, your upset, now Boozer is horrendous just as you Supposedley knew before he signed last year. It’s cool. And those words came from my mouth, not yours.

I think you guys missed the point though of my comment earlier I think Boozer as a vet thats had some reasonable success and has earned a decent size contract it’s up to guys like him to step up and say things like that to the media. I mean c’mon had it been Brian Scalabrine, well it would be okay cuz y’all love him on here for some reason.. see I’m hip to yas lol

  • shutupallenp

Isiah thomas was not a score first point guard thats a bad comparison, rose is closer to marbury than thomas, parker or billups. parker defers to ginobili and duncan, billups defered to wallace and hamilton. Rose is the main and most times only scoring threat, I’m sorry if i see an athletic guard who slashes better than he shoots and scores better than he passes and dont consider him a true point guard. And yeah i think a playmaster running the offense with rose as the primary scorer would lead to a better team chemistry.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Thomas was a scorer who involved his teammates to win. He was a score first (you know, when it mattered) point guard. Something Rose needs to LEARN. Which he can do. And is better served to do than to be taken off the ball. He is the youngest MVP in league history, suggesting he should switch positions after he just won the award and lead his team to the best conference in the league is ridiculous, to put it politely.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    Record* in the league.

  • http://360special.blogspot.com/ dev0

Rose said he “could be MVP” in last years’ preseason. Maybe predictions come true in Chicago, maybe not for Booz though…

I see that Idiot EB**ch is running his mouth, when he has nothing to boast about.

  • shutupallenp

I’m sorry if i dont see Rose being able to learn how to be a pass first point guard or learning how to play like isiah thomas, one of the greatest pgs the game has seen. Not trying to selll Rose short but he won MVP because of his scoring out put and team record not his ability as a point guard. Rose doesnt have the pieces around him like a parker or billups how can you be the teams #1 option and point guard? it has never worked in the NBA and i dont see Rose being the exception to the rule, and honestly if Lebron didnt go to Miami and play with wade he woulda won it again this year. And best record in the league doesnt mean anything if you dont make it out of your conference. I think the bulls over achieved last year and are silly to expect the same type of results this year, when their success last year has put a target on their back

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

I agree with Boozer, people conveniently forget Boozer and Noah was injured big chunks of the season, so they didn’t build that chemistry and cohesiveness in the front court. That’s the only reason the Bulls “struggled” against the pacers. Miami is not going to be a hard team to defeat, All the bulls have to do is make shots. The speed and quickness, and athleticism of the heat defense through them off like it did the mavericks the first couple of games, they never made adjustments though, so I blame Thibs for that but with his experience now, like Boozer said, they all should be better prepared.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gametimeweezy Gametimeweezy

Im not saying he didn’t deserve it because he was ballin out of control.. but Rose also won the MVP no small part to media hype. He was no more valuable than Dwight Howard I thought.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Whether or not your right about who would have won the MVP, or whether or not Chicago as constructed won’t be better than last year, it is still clearly evident that Rose is a PG, should be a PG, and always will be a PG. What Rose accomplished last season, at the age he accomplished it, is proof that a team built around him can win. Rose wasn’t the weakness. And a team built around a SG also couldn’t win a title as of 1990. Or a team whose best player led the league in scoring as of 1990. And teams built around a jump shooting 7 footer couldn’t win until 6 months ago. Teams without superstars can’t ever win, until 05. A team of guys that are in their first year together couldn’t win as of 07. And on and on and on. Your theory is not only wrong, but it is proven to not be true. Despite what you want to say, people said a team built around a PG and an undersized one at that couldn’t win the title as of 1988. All people who said those things were wrong. Just like you are. Now whether Rose and the Bulls actually do win the title, idk, but it’s not impossible because he is a shoot first point guard. That’s stupid.

  • shutupallenp

Dont get me started on Dwight Howard, I hate when people bring him into mvp discussions, he’s not even the number one option on his own team, and the team doesnt play through him. I cant stand Kobe and thought Kobe, James, Durant.

  • shutupallenp

You do know Kobe is a pg?

  • shutupallenp

I meant sg, your ignorance made me hit enter before proofreading

  • http://www.facebook.com/gametimeweezy Gametimeweezy

Who was the number one option if it wasn’t Dwight? Because if teams weren’t gameplanning around him who were they worried about?

  • shutupallenp

I dont think its stupid to move a great slasher with questionable decision making and very little court vision to a position that enhances his positives and limits his negatives.

  • shutupallenp

Nelson shot more than dwight Rashard shot more than dwight turk, carter, Arenas , whoever found themselves on the perimeter with the ball. the team is clearly built around an offense that shots first dumps down second maybe third or fourth

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

If you thought Kobe was top three in the MVP discussion last year, let alone the MVP, you shouldn’t be trying to debate anyone.

  • matt

If chicago gets JRICH with the MLE they have a really good shot at winning it: Rose,JRich,Deng,Boozer,Noah. That is very very good starting lineup.

  • ron

Man you gotta give Rose his props, in an interview with Ric Bucher he admitted his faults and what he needed to improve on this season. He gave credit to Lebron for his defense, but also stated that his basketball iq, isolation game and post up game were points of emphasis this off-season. Hell he even asked Kobe about spots on the floor that make it harder for the defense to double team. This kid is a hard worker and is just scratching the surface on how good he eventually will be.

  • shutupallenp

so in reality kobe was fourth in mvp votes how is that far fetched? his value to his team is just as great as rose, james or dwight and honestly is the only reason that the Lakers have stayed at the top of the western conference, and I dont like Kobe like that, i actually hate myself for defending him

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Is it DHow’s fault that Ron Jeremy instructs his team to shoot countless threes instead of “pounding” it down low?

  • http://www.facebook.com/gametimeweezy Gametimeweezy

Nelson and Rashard huh… dude your an idiot. And who you calling ignorant? No more respect for you change your name son… again. Peace.

chill weezy i was calling nbk ignorant save that old man tuff guy stuff for someone else. reminded me of dolemite or this old dude Gary that played at the cage when he got mad or scored on some young cat hed be like SUKKA.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

His negatives? He was 10th in assists. And his most glaring offensive negative is playing off of the ball. You would be enhancing his negatives because you want to call him a slasher. He is the best option to shoot, & create a shot for someone else on every single possession in Chicago. There is a reason he shoots as much as he does. And that Kobe Bryant comment better not have been to me.

  • shutupallenp

Actually i do blame DHoward, he should be come more of an offensive threat and the team would have to dump it down, if he got serious and demanded the ball and could actually produce when he got it then i would just blame the coaching but his post up game is seriously suspect and his teammates and coaches know it, when he has the ball in the post how many double teams are thrown at him? not many and hes not that good of passer, his size and athletic ability he should be killin people, straight beastin but he doesnt he wants to pop and lock and center court and smile a laugh instead of puttin work

  • shutupallenp

do you see whos ahead of him on the list? 10th behind john wall, raymond felton even russell westbrook, he could get those 5 assits as a sg moving without the ball that way the offense could flow for the whole team, which coincidentally lead to their losing to the Heat, which is the same thing that undid the heat against the mavs but for other reasons

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Your reading comprehension is the equivalent of a 12 year old. That is the issue here. You think I don’t know what position Kobe plays? What the f*ck does that have to do with anything? Dumbass man. You’re a dumbass.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

The Reasons he is behind Westbrook, Wall, and Felton should all be plainly obvious. That comment is proof enough that you don’t know what your talking about. And the Kobe comment before that proves that your ability to read makes responding pointless. Good night.

  • shutupallenp

well you right like a grade school book report you throw out 100 irrelevant “facts” that have nothing to do with this discussion and expect someone to make sense of it. Straight fact- no team has ever won a championship with the pg being the number one option, and it will never happen because it stagnates the offense. CLEAR ENOUGH?

  • shutupallenp

Why is he behind them? because he shoots more than anyone on his team? My point exactly.

  • Red

Weezy is an emotional girl & a part-time Slam interweb Thug. CEWL

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Because John Wall is a better pure PG. Raymund Felton spent more than half the season playing for the Knicks. The Second half coming off the bench for the highest pace highest scoring team (for those 2 months). And Russel Westbrook plays right next to the leads leading scorer. Not Luol Deng. And those “irrelevant” facts are all things dumbasses like you say. That inevitably get proven wrong. Like yours, which has already been proven wrong. Ever heard of Walt Frazier? New York Knicks? 1973? He was the first option. Even Averaged more rebounds than assists. So let’s add you to the list of people who say thing “a team can’t win with a shoot first PG” to the list as proven wrong in 1973……unless you want to look at all the title teams Bob Cousy played on….cuz he shot a ton of shots, I’m sure he lead the team in shot attempts, and had the ball in his hands the majority of the game. And whether you wanna admit it or not, Isiah was Detroit’s first option. They just had a ton of weapons for him to share with. Like Rose doesn’t have. Sorry I couldn’t resist. Good night this time.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

Ignorance is bliss baby girl. 1973 is not 1970. Reed and Earl were there, but they weren’t the teams first option. Neither of them was even the 2nd option. (Dave Debusschere was). Here is a short exert about the 73 Knicks “The Knicks, with three key big men well past age 30, were supporting All-Pro guard Walt Frazier this year in hopes of one last shot at the top themselves. They again had the league’s top defense.”. Asta

  • shutupallenp

I just meant is as an example, the magic would let anyone shoot before they dump the ball down, it hurts as a big man to see supposedly the leagues mvp not get the ball or when he does get the ball look lost.

  • dan

predictions are allways tough to discuss. for example: when rose said he wants to be the mvp last season, nobody neither really believed nor took him serious.
or just imagine nowitzki wouldve told us bevore last post season that his mavs were legitimate title contenders. i think we would all have had a good laugh at him.

apart from that: if the bulls are no title contenders – which team besides the heat should be that then? sure, they are lacking a good shooting guard but it would suprise me, if the bulls front office wouldnt add at least a good shooter. they won 60 last year and the roster got closer to its prime / hopefully learned its lessons from last year (derrick, its never a good idea to take a step back jumper against lebron or to drive against 3 defenders when players right next to you are open :D )

  • shutupallenp

and nbk rose is not clyde, clyde was a pimp and the ball was passed around clyde led with 17 shots but the rest of the main players shot between 13-15 shots per game, i have google. and no one is your baby girl, save that for your chocolate princess

  • dan

talking about lacking pieces… he has got noah, a 10 -10 pivot, boozer, who has no problems to put up 20-10 throughout a season when healthy and deng, an above 15ppg third option who can play lockdown d plus some nice role players. the bulls supporting cast is no excuse for nothing even though the whole team collapsed during last years conference finals. the collapse also included rose. but we shouldnt judge him too harsh, he is extemely young for a team leader at the 1-spot and will (hopefully) learn from that as i said b4.

And I called you baby girl in response to you calling me an idiot, after I called you a dumbass and so on and so forth. You don’t know any of us. There is no reason for you to be so prejudice, quick to call someone racist, or racist yourself, basically there is no reason for you to be a blatantly ignorant moron about someone’s personal life on a website. I don’t care about whatever defense you have for this comment, I’m putting this out there so that you can’t blame the fact that you’re unaware of where the line should be drawn, on why you are a terrible commenter. The basketball discussion we had wasn’t that bad, except you clearly don’t understand what your talking about, or the history of the NBA, but that is fine, I don’t expect you too. But when you are clearly wrong, or frustrated, just step away and gather your thoughts, maybe think about whether or not you may actually be wrong. “Despite their bravado, no one outside of the Bulls’ locker room considers Chicago to be a true title contender.

Without a respectable option at the shooting guard spot, they don’t have enough offensive firepower to compliment Derrick Rose and truly challenge the League’s superpowers.”

that comment right their made me lose ALL respect for this website and magazine. Thats just ignorance. this writer should go crawl in a hole.. Best record in the L last year, best player in the L and MVP D Rose, coach of the year, best defense, deepest bench..had no legit scorer to help derrick and boozer was garbage but they still made it to the east finals and pushed one of the “super powers” to the edge. With a healthy Boozer, and the addition of either Butler, Richardson, Affalo, or somebody of those caliber players to help at SG, the Bulls will win not only win it all this year, but will have a dynasty back in the CHI!!!!

  • http://slam Blinda

The funny thing is people are so convinced with their opinions that they only way to change your opinion is to prove you wrong after you see it with your own eyes. Being a Bulls fan, the Bulls have proven me wrong. When the season started last year I thought they would make the playoffs but I had no idea of what I was about to see. Rose went from a up and coming star to debatably the best player in the league for that 1 year. A bigger jump then anyone has ever seen. Bulls fans also say 2 of there starters injued almost the entire season and throughout the playoffs. To say the Bulls have no chance is absolutely ludacris. Are they the favorites, no. Can they beat the Heat, Lakers, or Mavs in Playoffs. We have to wait and see. But to say they have no chance. Go Bulls.
