Dwight Howard to ‘Take Advantage of Every Opportunity’ During 2012 Free Agency

Whenever Dwight Howard faces the press, he has no choice but to answer questions about his upcoming free agency. The Orlando Sentinel has the latest carefully-constructed answer from the Magic superstar: “Although he stopped well short of saying he’s made a decision about his long-term future, Orlando Magic superstar Dwight Howard said Thursday he plans to take advantage of ‘every opportunity’ when he’s eligible to become a free agent during the summer of 2012. Howard spoke briefly with reporters after he signed copies of his new book, ‘All You Can Be: Learning & Growing Through Sports,’ at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando. Howard has been reluctant to talk about his potential free agency, and his comments came only after he was posed a specific question about the subject. ‘Well, that’s 2012,’ he said. ‘Everybody’s worrying about the wrong stuff. I didn’t come here today wanting to discuss where I’m going to be next year. At that point, it really doesn’t matter. The biggest thing for me is taking advantage of every opportunity that I have in front of me, and that’s how anybody should look at it. I’m 25 and I have a full life ahead of me, God-willing, and I have to do what’s best for me, and that’s it.’”

Ill-timed quote. Clearly one foot is out the door. I don’t even want to mention the NBA team name at a certain metro west coast California city (of angels) area. Once this bS ends then maybe I’ll mention it.

Isn’t everyone technically a free agent right now?

  • Richard

No they are not free agents.. Not in any technical form or otherwise..

He is definately going to the Lakers.. and once Kobe retires, he’ll be the face of the franchise.

The Lakers cannot sign him as a free agent. That can’t happen. He can get traded there, that is it.

It’s going to suck to be a Magic fan because I’m almost certain Dwight is planning to leave. However, if I were a Magic fan, I’d rather let him walk for nothing than get whatever the Lakers trade me.

I think he should take this free time and work on a post game. so much potential, its sad when people bring him up as an mvp candidate but his own team doesnt trust him in the fourth quarter. seriously his game resembles kenyon martin than any other good center from the past

His team doesn’t trust him through the course of a whole game. Not just the 4th quarter. His game is comparable to Shaq, except he isn’t mean, and his teammates don’t give him the ball. But they were both game changers, who were hugely important to their teams, even in the 4th quarter. — His defense is why Orlando was one of the best 4th quarter teams in the league. And (imo) he actually should have won MVP last season. But I am not arguing with anyone that picked Rose or Dirk over him.
