Kemba Walker Claims He Wasn’t at Club Where Fatal Shooting Happened

The NY Daily News published a story saying that a bunch of NFL and NBA players — including John Wall, Kemba Walker, Carlos Boozer, Russell Westbrook, and Chris Duhon — were partying in a club two nights ago where a man was shot to death. But according to Kemba, he wasn’t there. From the Charlotte Observer: “I was not at the club when it was shot up,’ Walker tweeted. ‘I don’t even stay in NY anymore! It’s just a rumor that I was there!’ Numerous pro athletes, including several New York Giants, were at a party when shots were fired. The Daily News story named several other NBA players, including former Duke stars Carlos Boozer and Chris Duhon, as having been invited. There was no indication in the Daily News’ story that any of the professional athletes were injured or directly involved with the shooting or whatever prompted it.”

Why do they need to report the “star-studded- guest list of the party when none of those guys had anything to do with the shooting. Also, I hate when they unnecessarily give you a guys criminal background in a story. The dude got shot to death, but they feel its necessary to inform us that he once did 6 years in jail for stuff that has nothing to do with him getting shot.

@dfrance21: They report the star studded guest list because if one of them got shot with a stray bullet (they don’t have to be involved with anything), then it would be even bigger news. Also there is a lot of pressure put on athletes to associate with the ‘right’ people in the ‘right’ places. A shooting at a place they frequent is news and infers the type of people/places they hang out. Athlete behaviour and associations will always be an important issue as long as they on a disproportionate rate get in legal trouble or people want to be more informed about who/how our ‘celebs’ are etc. Details about a shooting victim are also relevant, as it may give rise to motive and therefore to catching the shooter. If the person is a known drug dealear, gang banger or has a criminal history may help answer questions as to whom would have wanted to kill him/her or may also help understand if the victim was most likely intended to be shot or an innocent bystander (e.g. like when a drive by happens and they say a 3 month old child was killed). Victim identity is very pertinent to a lot of crimes.

so does this give kemba some sort of bad rap? they already gotta pay him for the next four years since he was drafted so high so this wouldnt even be a story if we had a season.

    ^cosign – you’re just being ridiculous now.
Kemba’s gonna surprise folks. He’s not gonna be an all-star or anything, but he’ll have a solid NBA career. A nice boost off the bench

Everybody expects Kemba to be at least a nice boost off the bench already.
