‘Obama Classic’: Magic Johnson, Paul Pierce to Play

Though Dwight Howard pulled out of the game, the roster for the big fundrasising exhibition continues to swell. From the WaPo: “President Barack Obama’s all-star campaign fundraising game picked up some more big name supporters on Tuesday, as NBA legend Magic Johnson and Paul Pierce were added to the roster of participants. Dwight Howard, though, withdrew from the game, which will be held Dec. 12 in the District, and has been replaced by none other than … Wizards restricted free agent and Senegalese center Hamady Ndiaye, according to the Obama campaign Web site. Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Chris Bosh, Blake Griffin, Amare Stoudemire and Wizards guard John Wall have committed to play and headline the game that will raise money for the Obama Victory Fund, which supports both the president’s 2012 reelection campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Tickets for the ‘Obama Classic’ range from $100 to $5,000 for courtside seats. A campaign spokesman said Obama’s participation in the event has yet to be determined and the location has not been released. The game will also feature former NBA stars, including Georgetown legends Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo. Other confirmed players are former Wizards Juwan Howard, Antawn Jamison and Jerry Stackhouse, as well as Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Tyson Chandler, Jamal Crawford, Baron Davis, Rudy Gay, Tyler Hansbrough, Dahntay Jones, Brandon Knight, Kevin Love, Jamal Mashburn, Cheryl Miller, Reggie Miller, Quentin Richardson, Doc Rivers, Steve Smith, Tina Thompson and Russell Westbrook.”

What is the point of this. “Obama Classic, this is why alot of people do not take him and his Presidency serious because he is too involved with things outside of his leadership role. His focus should be on improving job employment, health care, immigration laws and getting reelected for his second term. This is nothing but a money grab, this should be free for the public with the players donating money to Obama for his reelection campaign. BOOK IT!!!

  • the facts

obama is not actually not involved in this event. he isn’t even slated to be in attendance at this point. this “money grab” are one of the many events all over the country whose proceeds go to the reelection campaign.

that being said…i’ve already gotten my ticket and that will be my contribution to the campaign this year.

I couldn’t agree with you more (The Seed). Oblahblah needs to get his priorities in order and get this country going again. He is not a leader but just a follower of his czars and everyone else that tells him what to do. His is making every effort to bring this country down by way of Cloward and Piven Strategy which is by combining class warfare, demonizing the rich, and getting as many people onto welfare rolls as possible all to push the economic system to collapse. Glen Beck was 100% correct about this when he brought this to our attention. Why else would a sitting President do absolutely nothing to fix this situation and blame the Republicans. For two years the Democrats controlled the House and Senate and could have passed anything they wanted but…..nothing to fix the economy. He didn’t promise whether the change was going to be good change or bad change. And all you pros need to wake up because he’s coming after your money too. You’re part of the top 1% too!!!

I’m glad he can find work for the unemployed NBA players, because they need it so bad! On top of this fund raises for himself not for the millions of jobless americans.

Part of Obama’s job is to raise money for his campaign and his party. ALL presidents do this as part of their obligation while in office. Obama, just like other presidents, makes a variety of speaches for various candidates, appears at many union meetings, meets with various foundations and organizations, has dinners and other special events where people pay serious money just to attend. This is just another way for the President to raise money and it actually ‘matches’ his personality as many know he’s a sports fan and basketball is one of his favorite past times. Not to disagree that he has other things that are important for him to be doing right now, but if you want to “BOOK” anything, book that by doing this event, the President is doing his job.

I see some ole Rednecks complaining on this site

aka The SEED…………….Nobody said ish when The Good Ole Boy Bush was starting Wars about some weapons That DOESN’T EXIST,When He signed the patriot act,The no child left behind, the outsourcing of jobs.

The Only thing You can BOOK IT!!! on is that you would get the piss slapped out of you if you pop your mouth off face to face!

One backetball game people!!! And he’s probably not even helping organize it. There’s really no need to argue politics, fundraising is something he has to do, and can’t we all agree that this is a much more entertaining fundraiser than any other president has come up with??

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Re-elect Obama… If you want nothing to change.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

This has more to do with campaigning and reinforcing his public persona–ie. electability–than raising money. It’s supposed to be a charity game, no? And Obama will have no trouble raising enough dough for his campaign–his corporate donors now have no limits as to how much they can give him (thanks to your slavish congress). Meaning he might end up spending upwards of $10 million in the next year.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Georgia Boy: Right, and nobody said ish about Obama bombing Libya without approval of congress. Actually, tonnes of people criticized the Iraq War but criticism does nothing these days. They’re all the same, friend.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

This does seem like a cool even, though. Reggie + Cheryl Miller will be fun to watch. It’ll be nice to see Deke back on the court too.
