Sacramento Kings’ New Assistant Coaches: Keith Smart, Bobby Jackson

There may not be any players to coach right now, but that won’t stop the Sacramento Kings from hiring new folks for their bench. Per the Bee: “Former Warriors head coach Keith Smart and ex-Kings standout Bobby Jackson have been added to the Kings’ coaching staff, the team announced Tuesday. Smart, who led the Warriors to a 36-46 record last season but was not retained, has been credited with helping to develop guard Monta Ellis into one of the NBA’s emerging stars. The Warriors replaced Smart with Mark Jackson. Smart was an assistant with the Warriors for seven seasons before becoming the head coach last season. He joined the Warriors after three seasons with Cleveland that included a stint as the interim head coach in 2002-03, going 9-31 … Jackson retired in 2009 after 12 seasons and spent the past two seasons as a scout in the Kings’ front office. He played six seasons for the Kings and won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in the 2002-03 season for Sacramento. Smart and Jackson join Jim Eyen as assistants on head coach Paul Westphal’s staff. Truck Robinson, Mario Elie, Otis Hughley and Pete Carril were on the staff last season.”

I like Keith Smart, he should get a chance soon and with the Kings’talent, I’d love to see him there.

Congrats Bobby Jax! I loved watching him play. He was so streaky, but fearless. I loved watching him smash into the paint, knowing that he wasn’t going to make the shot, but hoping to get mashed so he could shoot free throws.
